BLUEWATER Sailing Kiribati to Marshall Islands Farewell Kiribati - Hello Marshall Islands - 3 Days at Sea ! We leave Kiribati and embark on a three-day ocean crossing to the Marshall Islands . We make a final trip to to the market to stock up on fresh fruit and veggies and spend a VERY hot day visiting Customs and Immigration to complete our clearing out of Kiribati. We set sail northwards towards the Marshall Islands and even though its a short trip ,we still manage to encounter a couple of gnarly squalls along the way . Our wind instruments stop working and we are forced to sail up the 'wrong' side of Majuro due to strong winds... However, a pod of dolphins welcomes us on our way into Majuro lagoon and it's not long before we are tied to a mooring enjoying a cold beer..... We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you. In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel! well good morning from a fairly overcast
bikini boo we were over North Tarawa
yesterday it got a little bit squirrely
a little bit windy from the wrong
direction so we've seeked some shelter
back on the mainland and it's Tuesday so
apparently there is a market we're going
to go and check it out

it was only a short thing here I to the
beach where we got some help bringing
Dave ashore I'm Jamar our friends who
know Mass on a very early and very
cloudy morning from is a ancient mark
had been told of a nearby Taiwanese
veggie garden which normally provided
fresh vegetables to the local schools
and hospitals given that it was his
school holidays they had several a stock
and was selling directly to the public
we were told to be there for 9 a.m. this
turned out to be a tad optimistic as I
was still getting organized so he picked
up a numbered ticket and settled in for
a bit of a chat while we waited the
ticketing system is used to stop people
and restaurants or shops coming in and
buying all the stock for a third of the
price we were paying in the shops we got
some of the freshest produce we have
seen in a long time
thanks for coming
[Music]
with full provisions and a favorable
weather window for the Marshall Islands
we move DT six miles west and anchored
off the Parliament Buildings then headed
to by D key to start our check out Davis
parked fortunately the Tigers on its way
in so coming back shouldn't be an issue
and we're now on a mission to get down
into by rickie and clear out with
immigration
no one's a bit early for
this time we are clearing out of a
country since you've done less we have
to get to customs better yeah its
customs we give this to customs okay
Monday thank you for your help thank you
[Music]
just looking for state it does seem to
be an issue in these countries is that
and nobody ever has a stable and
everyone know their yeah every time they
come on the boat they go if you got a
stapler yeah they use our stake boat and
then we donate staples
[Music]
so we're trying to get a bus back to buy
a ticket but all these buses are going
to beso which is where we are that's
like a new
just keep doing a loop
we're going nowhere fast
[Music]
I've got no idea what time is left okay
men but we made it back to Dave and
we're all cleared out how about you I'm
ready for a nice cold glass of juice
Friday morning I am looking super
glamorous and we are off this morning we
are leaving
Tarawa Lagoon and we are setting sail
north to a Maduro we've got everything
strapped down because basically it's
going to be an up wind beat and we don't
like upwind generally but we don't have
much option because that's the trade
winds in this part of the world good
morning my ranger all right oh yeah well
both looking glamorous this morning yeah
oh we're more or less ready for the
officers I think so yeah we're done the
route plan and we're just going to see
what we get now let's do it
we are just exiting through the channel
out of the lagoon in Tarawa and out into
the open ocean and enjoying this one
tiny little bit of dominance island that
we're going to get
so we're puttering along at five knots
in very light but we also are passing a
being violent opportune our starboard
side
that is giving us quite a bit of shelter
from a skull and now this is pre
champagne say
send us round
[Applause]
good evening it's our first night on a
Friday evening and I have to say it's a
beautiful evening I've got the engines
off again there we're doing about
the swell is probably about one and a
half two meters but it's a bit long
[Music]
just coming up half one in the morning
the wind has fallen off fairly
considerably and not sure what speed
it's doing because our wind speed
indicator has just stopped working one
option is that we can stop off at the
territory we can go in there and see if
we can do any repairs but we haven't got
a spare on board and I'm not really sure
how we're gonna repair it to be honest
it may be that we decide to press on and
use the boat speed as an indicator of
wind speed we're doing six to seven
knots then we know that we're within the
safety window of the reefing points but
that will all be discussed in our boat
meeting
Joe is awake good morning of day two
that is a bru territory well it's also
these sunrise
my time is five miles of starboard
she's gone 7:00 in the morning it is a
windless day today banging there's a
whole load of spoils ahead of us that
looks like they've sucked all the air
out where we are just have to wait and
see not that we can see what the wind
speed is because our wind speed
indicator is still broken
we are only pressing on
so when our motors saving rather than
yes well coming in
yeah that's what we're surrounded by at
the moment where this little little blob
here
our wind instruments were still not
working even after turning everything on
and off we resigned ourselves to being
without them for the rest of the trip
when suddenly they started to work again
a great result
and a huge relief Wow we just dropped
the sail and there was the gun down I
want the gusts are at the moment
big 35 knots for sure just as we're
making lunch too
so it's official that was our first big
school of the trip took us a little bit
by surprise and lasts at about two hours
on review of the predict twin files
actually did show something that it was
the timing was a little bit off there is
a prediction that there might be
something happening this evening as well
unless what we've just had was what
could do this evening so that because
the timings off we're not really sure so
we're keeping a close watch on the radar
into the evening and the sea state is
still a little confused but it is
calming considerably
so we've acknowledged here
a couple of schools
just dose the machine
you know the seas as well was probably
about three and a half meters and we are
bashing upwind by anywhere between 11 20
knots of wind again speed wise were
getting anywhere between five and a half
and seven o'clock knots so I'm making
for a time it's just not the best
pointer to say
especially
our lovely long
ocean swell has disappeared
chop
lunch time thank you
7:00 a.m. and see if I can find film has
been flying round and round the boat for
the past 15 minutes or so I guess it's
like China London an aircraft carrier or
something
it's go get the right speed and make
contact
oh there he is look there we go he's
just landed bugger I didn't film it but
I'll show you here we go
day three and yeah we've got a bit of a
score the pounding thing happening over
here which is helping the wind a little
we're pretty much close hold we just
don't like going up with
carries the birthday boy oh come on you
can do it
we need one
it's our last night at sea with you into
majora tomorrow afternoon and it's quite
pleasant out here actually we've got a
reef in the main and the seas are
relatively calm we've calmed the boat
down so that we can get some sleep and
the wind is finally starting to play
ball and means that we aren't as close
hauled as we were so everything is a lot
more relaxed to be honest but I'm very
much looking forward to getting in and
exploring in your country for us so yeah
should be good
[Music]
[Music]
the westside of Mathura that is the
northern tip we're somewhat in the
protection of the land around the top
should be a lively few hours
our heading to the
[Music]
I think people hope McCullum when they
come round the top and that's where it
all gets messy because you've got
current coming against wind and at this
we had some big swell coming up back to
the west side of the island once we've
motive to that which took us about two
hours yeah
they say plain sailing it's a beautiful
day so fingers crossed we'll get in
without any drivers and we're now
heading across the lagoon to Anchorage
well we are here we've got the dig in
and we're going over to check in so and
they're waiting for us so we're in a bit
of a rush
[Music]
look at this tell me we are clear our
customs and immigration checking in
it's a good check-in day
