A sailboat was struck by lightning and caught fire in waters off Castle Island on Friday afternoon
, prompting rescuers to take nine people off the vessel, authorities said. None of the passengers was hurt.
Petty Officer Andrew Barresi, a spokesman for the military branch, said lightning struck the boat, causing smoke and fiery conditions in the engine room. The lightning also knocked out power, so the boaters couldn’t radio in for help, Barresi said.
