The submarine Pietro Micca 2 of the Italian fleet was hit and sunk by the Trooper submarine of the English navy which hit a practically uncovered target. The Italian crew consisted of 72 men, 54 of whom were trapped between the plates and 18 instead managed to escape thanks to the help provided by some fishermen who had witnessed the attack.
On board the Palinuro ship, a training ship of the Italian Navy, the ceremony was held to commemorate the anniversary of that fatal day, to commemorate those victims.
A crown was laid in the sea, the same sea that swallowed a flagship of the Italian navy 79 years ago in a few minutes.
