Dear ORC Sailors

Royal Danish Yacht Club and Egaa Yacht Club are looking forward to see all of you for the ORC Worlds 2016 in Copenhagen, Skovshoved Harbour.

Skovshoved Harbour is a modern and functional harbour and is situated close to Copenhagen Downtown with only 15-20 min drive to Tivoli and the main shopping areas. The clubhouse is in the northern part of the harbor, and walking distances are short and the clubhouse forms a natural meeting point together with the event tent. The harbor also includes a boatyard, chandlery, motor services and a sailloft.

The Worlds will start on Friday 15th of July and the closing ceremony will be on Saturday 23rd of july.

Racing will start on Monday 18th. For now 7 inshore up-and-down races are scheduled together with a Coastal race and a long offshore race. Race areas for the inshore races will be North and East of Skovshoved Harbour with a maximum of 1 hours sailing to reach the race areas. The Coastal race will take place in Öresund and will have rounding marks in Danish as well as Swedish waters. The long off shore race will take competitors up into the Kattegat with several rounding marks, or south where Öresund meets the Baltic Sea.

The weather in Copenhagen at that time of year is usually great with an average temperature of 22 Celsius and average wind of 8,5 knots from the west. On sunny days the sea breeze will build and sometimes reach 30 knots.

Hotel facilities are very good and at that time of year reasonably priced. We are right now negotiating special prices and conditions for participants and families.

In 2016 KDY will celebrate its 150 years anniversary being the oldest yacht club in Denmark.

The vision for the anniversary is to mark sailing as a sport for life, where generations can compete on equal terms, and KDY as the nationwide yacht club with activities all over Denmark, many of these planned and executed in cooperation with local clubs or with clubs sharing the same interest.

The anniversary season will include numerous sailing activities and social events with the ORC Worlds and a regatta for “old” Olympic classes as spearheads.

The major social event will be a Grand Ball in the Copenhagen Opera with already confirmed participation from the Scandinavian Royal Families.
