The season runs from April through October, with the best winds for sailing in May and June.
If you are already an experienced sailor, you can charter a so-called bareboat yacht, meaning that you rent just the boat and sail independently.
If you have never sailed before, or have little experience, then you will need a skipper. Generally skippers do more than just guide the boat: most are from the region and, therefore, know the local waters and weather conditions, the history and culture, the protected coves for putting down anchor, the local gastronomic hideouts, and the best diving spots.
The third option is sailing in a flotilla. A flotilla is a group of yachts (typically between 5 and 10), with people of mixed levels of sailing experience, led by a qualified expert. You gain the privacy of your own sailboat but also the security of knowing that help is always close at hand should you need it. Of course, you also get to meet new people.
