The formula is confirmed: 2 days sailing and 2 days off-road in the stunning Maddalena archipelago and technical terrains of the Gallura inland. The participants will battle in longer distance coastal regattas and more intense land stages. The bar has been raised on the whole spectrum and this year sailing and off-road racing will be mixed throughout the 4 days in a sailing-offroad-sailing-offroad combination.
The main evolution for the 2017 edition is related to the boats and vehicles adopted. That is, the fastest growing state-of-the-art monotype for the sailing part, the J70, and a choice between three different ATVs, including the all new Yamaha YXZ1000R for the land stages.
The routes have also been significantly reviewed. In the water, the participants will race for 2 days for a total of 30Nm. The first race will start and finish in Porto Pollo after a morning training session.
Sailing day 2 will feature a different course from Porto Pollo all the way to Porto Cervo in the Costa Smeralda.
In the offroad field, the organisation has created 2 intense ability stages for a total of 330Km where the participants will have to navigate the Sardinian wilderness by roadbook and this year also by compass in order to follow the Bearing notes.
“After a succesful 1st edition” explains Rudy Briani, 7 times at the Dakar and responsible for the off-road stages “the newly mapped routes will be longer and significantly more challenging from a navigation standpoint. Some sections overlap WRC race routes; spectacular and adrenalinic”
ELEMENTS RACE’s only prerequisite for participation is that out of the 4 member team, 2 are experienced sailors and 2 carry a driver’s license valid on Italian soil.
“Elements Race is a perfectly balanced format” declares Andrea Rossi, single handed sailor with the Mini 6.50, off road enthusiast and participant in the 2016 edition, “and in the future it must become more extreme and dedicated to those who have the experience to handle it. We will surely participate to the new edition with our 2016 team.”
The final ranking is a sum of the daily points and will decide the podium of Elements Race. The prizes for the overall winners are 4 stunning timepieces provided by Sponsor and Official Timekeeper Terra Cielo Mare.
Elements Race originates from the idea of co-founders Guglielmo Fontana-Rava and Danil Kuzvesov both professionals in the automotive industry, respectively for Yamaha Motor Europe and Ferrari SPA and enthusiast land and sea adventurers.
“We believe that sports, like other fields, need innovation and evolution” states Guglielmo Fontana-Rava “We want to take adventure competition to a new level by connecting sea racing and land racing into one unique challenge for multi-skilled teams. We believe that Elements Race will give birth to a new breed of athletes and the world around them.”
“We offer a new and thrilling racing experience” concludes Danil Kuzvesov “that will push our participants to explore very diverse landscapes of northern Sardinia, the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Elements Race targets both highly experienced athletes and eclectic adventure lovers with the aim of creating a specialised audience over the coming years.
The organisation of the event is in the hands of an experience-rich team of professionals from the worlds of sailing and offroad: DrivEvent, Sardinia Escursioni, Thorney Motorsports, Orza Scuola Vela, Sardegna Fuori Traccia and Lega Vela Servizi.
Participants can register their team on www.elementsrace.com or send an email to the organisation at [email protected] to have more insights.
