day three on the canal just went through

lot 14

it's only about an 8 foot lift the short

lifts are very I'm not saying easy but a

lot easier than

the deep lift so we're little bit

nervous about the one coming up that's

40 feet but we've done 33 feet 720 70

thirty to forty miles today

we're inside a lock 15 and I think we're

moving all right we're moving you can

see the ladder

you can see how fast they're actually

moving up

so we're starting to realize after 15

locks that the trick is coming in really

slow and then just trying to grab these

lines that way there's not a panic

nose and on the bow you see we're moving

up and I'm neglecting my duties

gonna be scary here you can see behind

us we're 20 feet higher than the river

behind us almost 20 feet because we're

still going on probably about 18 feet

right now but soon to be 20 feet so this

is pretty interesting you know long

boring meandering you know motors

between locks but once you get to the

lock then it's 20 minutes or 30 minutes

of excitement and then back to the

boring but it's kind of fun you see the

current there's maybe a long way to go

we're still on the eastern side of Erie

Canal we're soon to be in the middle

section and then hopefully soon after

that be in the east section then le

coming up on lock 17 guillotine-style

gate 40-foot lift this was going to be

kind of scary

ready all right we're inside a 40-foot

lock this is pretty tall

mr. tallest home we have to do this

would be the most physically demanding

lock there is on the Erie Canal I think

you have to hang on to these lines they

forty feet up knee is absolutely no

leverage whatsoever

and then stop who day

but at the top of the lock here's a half

key to come into these places you can

never do this in in the big city

but they just give you the key and just

come into the office at night and use

you know there's the janitors office for

view of the canal so this is pretty nice

if you ever go down the canal make sure

you stop Little Falls Harbor it's very

nice

finally just get to sit down inside the
