in our last sailing Journal we were on
the island of Taha when we got news that
we would soon be joined by two of our
favorite salty sailors from San
Francisco we've always wanted to share
our experiences as cruisers with our
friends from home and finally this was
our chance the only problem was we still
had a lot to see in French Polynesia we
zipped through the jungly mountains and
squeeze their way through narrow coral
gardens before moving on to Bora Bora
but alas we made it and we instantly
understood why the tiny island holds the
reputation for the most beautiful place
in the world
we are currently leaving haha this is
the island just north of riot pass
leaving now let's exit right through
this pack to make our way to Bora Bora
so right up here anchored there 15 miles
left as we started making our way out of
the pass we realized that the winds were
too light to carry us to Bora Bora we
decided it was time to test out our new
to us spinnaker Jose's setting up our
new spinnaker for the first time the
hoist a little tricky
after we haven't used it for a long time
figure out just how everything's up this
is what happens ladies and gentlemen
when you're too lazy to do things the
right way

see what's going on we successfully got
our new vinegar in this
discipline is not as big as yellow one
it's not the nicest simply the wrong the
knife I thought that I was bad for
complaining that I wanted to be painted
you know the criminal we did something
wrong we bought it secondhand we just
kind of guess on the sides based on some
stats on lines yeah with mouth you can
never get you'll always do wrong I mean
I think it looks pretty good it does
look short yeah maybe he was just trying
to distract me from I told you so's with
our spinnaker but hollering this John
always gets everyone's full attention
when is the last time we got a fish Wow
c'mere opposite of life like that yeah
the thing is it's over I'm like
instantly huh talking about I'm the only
way to predict you get any better and
she's a pretty life
[Music]
so your little setup right now as we're
about to be something a little
nerve-wracking what is that thing we're
about to do
[Music]
okay so if you didn't catch that
distressful thing we're doing for
sailing through a narrow channel that is
only nine feet deep leaving us only two
feet and two inches of space between our
keel and the ocean floor coral heads
yeah they're everywhere

we made it through with minimal
scratches drop the anchor and
immediately hopped into the dinghy to
make sure the view was just as beautiful
from land as it was on the water

verification complete bora-bora is all
that it's cracked up to be
but even in paradise nothing is perfect
where there's an engine is an engine
waiting to break down hold up
see hold up like my god right now I did
a gondolier alright they're not tossing
[Music]
you
you

so Jose just whizzed off to go chat
around with other books in the Anchorage
here in bora-bora and I have to say that
sometimes confessions sometimes it's
really really nice to have the boat to
yourself where you can just have a glass
of wine enjoy an amazing Sun side and
it's L by yourself
people always ask us like what do you do
all day what do you do well next quite
honestly there's never enough time in
the day to do all the things we'd like
to do and there's definitely not enough
time to just kind of like be alone and
do your own thing which is not something
that most people realize so every once
in a while I like to send him off to say
hello to our neighbor boats so I can
just kind of loose off and have some
peace and quiet myself so that's what
I'm doing on this lovely Friday night
[Music]
we've heard about another spot to swim
with the Rays so the next morning we
zipped over to check it out seeing is
how I love the Rays so much I decided to
keep the dinghy company while Jose
hopped in
[Music]
I mean

the race bot turned out to be a zoo of a
tourist trap so we didn't stick around
for long we weren't sure if we were more
entertained by the people screaming like
yours truly in the water or the marine
life itself after we had had enough
laughs we took off and found ourselves a
string of coral heads we got to explore
all by ourselves
[Music]
you
[Music]
hey friends just wanted to say thank you
for stopping by
and following along our adventures as we
sail through French Polynesia as we were
making this video we thought that it
wouldn't be right to post without a
little follow-up commentary on our real
experiences in Bora Bora the reason for
that is one of the most important things
when we were prepping for this trip was
the urgency of it we wanted to get out
and see the planet added as it is right
now because we are aware and we do know
that data is changing so we had heard
that Bora Bora was supposed to be a true
paradise that it's the most beautiful
place on earth and it's absolutely epic
and to be honest it was you know clear
water white sandy beaches incredible
green like foliage all the way up these
cliffs and the people I mean everything
everything about it was just amazing
yeah the problem was when we went under
the surface so we anchored in several
different places because we were seeking
the best marketing spots and we went
everywhere recommended but time and time
again I mean it was nice but most the
time the coral is just simply dead so we
didn't see that color we didn't see the
marine life that goes with the coral
reefs all the little fish the colorful
refresh I mean to be really honest it
looked like we were looking at the ruins
of something that used to be paradise
and now it was just gray dead lifeless
coral that's not what we came to borrow
Boretti
yeah it was a little bit disheartening
to matter and you know the point of this
is we're not here to provide a solution
but we want to be a part of the solution
so by being aware of it it's the first
step towards improving the situation
certainly we think that we have the
absolute luxury of seeing some of the
most
incredible places in the world and we
just opted collectively through
awareness we can find a solution
together to keep it that way for
everyone else while we do post these
wonderful pictures in these videos and
it's all beautiful we want to make sure
that the entire truth goes along with it
so thank you again for watching and
cynics I'll see you next time
