last week on sailing tipsy gypsy we take
you on a tour around Lake Michigan to
share with you our summer of sailing
adventures before officially leaving
West Michigan we give you a sneak peek
at attending events such as America's
Cup an electric forest festival then we
head back up the coast to make our way
to drum an island to prepare for our
travels to the North Channel
you
drummond island was the beginning of our
North China visits but also a refuge to
take care of our alternator which had
started acting up throughout multiple
parts of our summer travels it was nice
to have a replace but would not be the
last of our alternator troubles although
it was raining most the time leaving
drummond island was difficult because we
enjoyed our time there and allowed us to
meet some very nice acquaintances at the
surrounding docks they all gave us their
input on the North Channel and provided
us some well needed maps along the way
that red line is going into Canada right
now our United States
just that little line makes us
going across into another country for
the first time with tipsy gypsy
sarens working over here he's still
getting internet all the way out here to
face death internet along our travels
some days would not be possible without
there and working under way our first
stop would be to Blind River to clear
customs and explore the town we stayed
at their marina for the night but the
town was quite vacant we had wanted to
go to a place called Riverside tavern
but it was only open from 3pm until 7pm
the day we arrived I hear it's a very
very old english pub so I'm excited to
see that in action apparently if you're
not coming in as a couple you have to
stay clear away from the guys side if
you're a girl but if a girl calls you
over to the guy or a girl coils you over
to the girls side then
able to come over there but for
absolutely no reason is a girl able to
go on the guys side sounded interesting
but instead the next morning we pushed
off after an amazing breakfast at the
marina café after Blind River was sealed
by hundreds of small islands along the
way eventually making away through the
whales my channel we were officially in
the North Channel now if you're not
familiar with the norc Channel it's the
body of water along the north shore of
Lake Huron within the Canadian province
of Ontario and stretches approximately
160 nautical miles it is known to be one
of the best freshwater cruising grounds
within all the world it's gorgeous it
was a light day of sailing but provided
warm sunny weather on the way to Crooker
Island everything was almost perfect but
decided to voter sail to keep a decent
seat just after celebrating our
excitement of officially entering these
magical sealing grounds there notice the
alternator was not working properly
while under way he got everything back
up and running properly but still would
keep an eye on things for the next
couple days this passage connects the
wheels back channel to the mcbean
channel within the North Channel there
is 80 feet of water in this passage but
is quite narrow it's crucial to Radio
ahead to let others know that you're
passing through it's pretty neat
and the throne not much longer and we
arrived to our destination as we pulled
around the bend we were pleasantly
surprised to find only one other boat in
the Anchorage we are planning on another
Nonsuch 36 when an on such meets an on
such the sort of happy magic happens
they're not such is named runcible and
we befriended each other almost
immediately
haha
fine on such you're getting em the same
Ginny against the bow hello the dogs are
so ready to go here
after that we took the Chihuahuas on the
island to let them run around it was so
entertaining to watch them climb up and
down all around the island they had such
a fun time here's the Anchorage where at
oh my gosh you did
good never directing me an amazing
scenery the mountainous views were
windier than it had been all day but
gave up my incredible start to our trip
with the clear skies and the safe trip
over man climbing a mountain right now
look at the wild chihuahua away c'mere
it was such a great start to our North
Channel trip looking back at these clips
now it was arguably the best day of our
trip we had almost our entire trip to go
yet but this day brought so much joy to
both us first witnessing the beauty of
North Channel us meeting another Nonsuch
and running around with the dogs until
our hearts were content this will be
something I'll never forget
take a shortcut you're still coming down
here the air the dogs are whupped at the
end of the day they didn't ever stop
running around for Island to see them go
from sleepy lazy dogs to this was quite
the scene for us after the dog fun we
went to dinghy explore and figure out
the best area to have a bonfire we found
the perfect spot almost immediately on
the other side of the Anchorage there
was a pit already made with a pile of
wood close by at sundown we would go
back for a relaxing fire on the beach
Croker island is a natural wonder and
our dogs would agree if you're ever up
in the North channel make sure to anchor
there for a secluded beautiful stay it's
worth every minute of your trip and you
might even see a non-slip there next
time on sailing sexy gypsy we take you
to the benjamin islands only a short
sale from prefer island with far more
boat traffic but with even more secluded
chill spots to explore
please subscribe to our channel and give
us a thumbs up
cheers and thanks for watching
you
