hi welcome back in today's video we're
going to be looking at finding leaks in
this Erickson restore project
[Music]
this Erickson over the last few years
that we've owned I have a number of
problematic leaks and they have been as
a result of people drilling straight
through the inner and outer hull to the
top deck and there's a wood rot also we
have where the stays come in attached
the water is coming in at that
attachment point where the strap goes
into the glass down below deck the other
thing is it's a 30 50 year old boat so I
mean I'm pretty sure that ask people
been parking I see some dents in my
bumpers there's probably some issues
with where the cult joins together
underneath the bumper there may have
been some separation over the years and
water could be coming in there we are
going to replace the fix and replace
glass on this on the top deck and if
there's any bumper leaks gonna fix those
too I'm hoping that by the end of this
video we're gonna have no leaks in this
boat so anyway let's go and look at our
possible leak sills thanks taken Lee the
leaks from screw penetration and cop
deck captain fix we then did a quick
leak test to find water still coming
into the boat
Crow's and I check to see if any screen
doors were open of which there were none
logically this meant there's a leak in
the deck to haul joint someone may have
bumped the boat when it was more
and not said anything we are now
removing the bumper to continue our
search for the source of Artie
[Music]
the next step is that we're going to
actually try and find a water leak so
I'm going to take a water hose simple
simple water hose and I'm going to put
it up against the bumper which is the
seam between a top deck and the bottom
deck and we're gonna put some water
pressure on to see if we can find a leak
occur so let's go and do that
[Music]
in our next step what we're gonna do is
I'm gonna pressure wash that dirt off of
the where the bumper is attached in the
two calls come together and then we'll
be able to repair it by adding some
glass and filler in to stop the leaks so
let's work on that
[Music]
well now that the the joint between the
deck and the hall which is normally
covered up by the the bumper has been
pressure-washed I'm gonna I put some
acetone into a little spray bottle and
I'm gonna go around I'm gonna spray into
the crack and that's going to prep the
surface to be repaired now I did some
research into this and the problem is I
looked up there and there was a number
of places that the it looks like someone
had done some repair and they they did
it with fiberglass and what has happened
is it it's gone and cracked again so
obviously this joint flexes a little bit
and it's an old boat and the 3m people
they've come up with something that is
quite permanent it's there I'm using
fast here it's there 5200 series of okay
it's like a construction adhesive almost
it's for marine you can use a top side
bottom side and this one here the faster
it'll be ready to rock and roll in 24
hours it'll be just as good as the
regular one which is 50 to the 5200
regular it is sets up in 24 hours this
sets up in one hour and then it takes
seven days for it to finally get into
its completely cured state this one here
is a set up in one hour so when I open
this I better have everything ready to
rock and roll because once it gets once
it gets going it's busy setting up
I'm gonna do the stay attachments with
this because again it is a man-made
rubber it is flexible and those areas
flex and I continuously haven't leaks
there so I've dug out all the old stuff
around around those attachment points
and I'm gonna fill this and level it out
and let it go give it a try
the 3m people say it's gonna be one hell
of a job trying to get this stuff off
once it's in well and that's about all I
have to say so time's a-wastin it's
gonna rain on me today so I'd like to
get this in by the way rain is good for
it because rain helped secure because
moist it's a moisture curing the type of
sealant okay off to work wheel
[Music]
well this rapid cure 5300 sure uh setup
nice this is like really tough looking
tire rubber when you push on it it's
also expanded as its as its cured I mean
this stuff cures by the amount of
moisture in the air not even tacky and
it's ready
this will take a screw according to 3m
people well that's the end of the fixing
of the leaks I only had the deck Hall
leaks and the previous owner had drilled
a bunch of holes that went right through
my top deck and through those screws we
had leaks that were forever happening
every time we went out in a nice rainy
day we'd have buckets under everything
anyway all those are taken care of so
what's left to do is clean it up paint
it and that's it hey guys thank you so
much for watching this video if you
