My French buddy Eric and I drove down to another marina to take a look at it. Wow. It’s FAR better than I expected. I thought it would be made out of scruffy wood and show all sorts of signs of wear and tear. It’s big, and aside from a few small pieces of teak trim that just need a coat of varnish, it’s in mint condition. The decks have a thick rubber tread that’s whistle clean and in perfect condition. The perfectly clear lexan curved windscreen must be half an inch thick – it’s in brand new condition without a single scratch or any UV damage. When you knock on the windscreen, it sounds like it’s made out of solid rock (all other boats normally use 1/8th inch plexiglass which bends and gets all cloudy). The tinted windows towards the bow all look brand new. In fact ALL the windows look brand new and are spotless. The Volvo Penta diesel engine produces 160 horsepower and is a “Z-drive”, which is also known as an “azimuth thruster”. This means the propeller pod can rotate 360 degrees, allowing for quick changes in thrust direction which makes the boat extremely manoeuvrable. It also adjusts up and down so the boat remains level when you’re traveling at low or high speeds. This is an extremely expensive option for power boats. There’s a swim platform across the back of the boat, and beneath that at water level, there’s two seats/ladders for getting in and out of the water which allow you to get up easily onto the swim platform and into the boat. There’s also a mounting bracket on the back for attaching an outboard (for fishing or as a spare motor). On the bow is a large anchor chain locker, and a large mooring post. The stainless steel safety rails are much higher than on a sailboat and go almost all the way around the boat. There’s two round portholes on the side, and the captain’s bridge is surrounded by glass, with a clear opening hatch beside the traditional wooden ship’s steering wheel. It’s been sitting for a while so it should be taken out of the water to have the yearly marine growth underneath scrubbed off and repainted. Should pick up they keys tomorrow.
