It's that time of year again! Varnishing is a very intensive annual project but the results are always worth it! Finally had a good weather window to film AN...

all right well I apologize for not
having anything really interesting to
show ya I've just been too busy doing
stuff not actually recording it but
today because it is a nice afternoon and
rain for the next 24 hours or so I'm
going to try to get another layer of
varnish on right now I have two layers
of varnish on this I need to get to four
so today I'll be putting the third one
on same with this part right here as
well as the top of this in the back here
I have the wood trim that goes around
this winch needs to be varnished again
with the second layer these two layers
on them as of right now so I'll be
putting the third layer on them as well
but then that will leave the rub rail
right here on the side of the boat the
two forward hand rails and the toe rail
all along the side of the boat come over
here show you so this part is my least
favorite to do because I have to
basically nailed down on deck and leaned
over the side and scraped for a couple
days so I'm going to save that until
springtime when it is consistently nice
out right now I'm only getting about a
day or two at a time where I can take
the time to do this job so back to work
between every layer of varnish it's
important to do a quick sanding that'll
help remove any dust particles or
imperfections in the previous layer
after I do the quick sanding I'll wipe
everything down with a clean cloth to
make sure you know the dust is leftover
and then I will apply the next coat of
the varnish

whytnee time I'm not gonna say white
because I'm in the video that's kind of
lame
[Music]
anticipation how'd you get so dirty
well you gotta do something about it you
can't just be like this maybe if you
will oh there we go then we'd be able to
clean up together but you never here
so firstly I'll help clean you up I will
take an intermission to talk about the
window okay what are the updates I got
this piece of wood replaced and the
window is back in place in the field
next on the panel project will be to
cover those gaps with little teak
stripping you might I don't know how
well it's gonna show up on camera but
these are actually two different colors
it's ever so slate you can only see it
in the exact right lighting so I don't
really know how much I'm gonna care
about that but then once that is done
I'll move on to the other side there's
what all this wood down here is about
and yeah we'll be almost done with that
project
man it's been going on for two years now
okay it is white time got to get them
clean so you'll see the difference
sanded got sanded here a lot of that
white on there is just just that you
have to clean off
as fast as you can now if I had the time
to do it I could also just hose it off
and wait until it dries come back but I
don't have that kind of time anymore so
we are going to have to do it this way
and trust you that it is clean enough
first layer
[Music]
okay now it is a varnish time one thing
I do before I use a brand new brush like
this one is I don the hair you'll see a
lot of the horse hair or whatever it is
it comes right out and that stuff is
going to get left in your varnish if you
don't kind of pre pluck it you'll get
something anyway but it helps to reduce
the amount that you're gonna have left
behind in there so let's get to washing
[Music]
all that now to let it dry for 12 to 24
hours and I'll come back to it later
