While sailing to Galapagos from Mexico aboard the Maiatla, the crew faces squalls, a target seeking booby bird, seasickness and the biggest equipment failure...

join the crew of the math lab as we
visit the Galapagos Islands these unique
isolated Islands have given birth to
amazing creatures birds and plants that
you will find nowhere else on the planet
and inspired a young Charles Darwin who
created a theory of evolution and we
would never see the world the same again
sailing offshore found us getting all
kinds of weather one minute we had lots
of wind the next minute we had none some
of the times we were motoring some of
the times we were reefing
how many miles before we get to see the
other landing squall hit us early in the
morning that was blowing like stink the
guys scrambled to adjust the sails and
throw in some reefs thankfully the worst
of it missed us
did you have to put under the eyes
diplomas on the naked Canadian was
closed it was terrible
I thought your hoodie come out this
morning you were ready
it's amazing how quickly we got used to
the heat
I found it cold enough that I had a
steal my upper vine and the V birth was
equivalent of
we continued battling seasickness and
Nick was really starting to suffer he
spent most of his time in the cockpit
with a bucket close by we were expecting
the worst for me IFS long as I'm on the
outside looking at that horizon eating
soda crackers I'm okay
throw in some lemon ginger tea and I'm
happy as a clam Nick strategy was to
stay in that cockpit keep that bucket
close at all times
but he still did his watches and still
managed to try to get the fishing in as
evening fell we had a surprise visit
from a booby bird who had a particularly
fondness for we were gonna need that
blood and all that we could get because
the gremlin had struck on the boat again
during the night the navigation computer
screen had been cracked we managed to
hook it up to a TV monitor and make it
work but that was just the beginning of
it
we were about to face something that was
far worse hey guys it's day 6 we're out
here in the middle of the ocean and we
had a little issue last night and we
have now become an officially a sail
only folks you want to speak about that
guys in midnight bells
as long as I watch marina I know that
all the boats we got all the action
yeah they stick in you they stick to
newbies on it because they know we're
gonna right blame it on us the engine
room last night oh I guess one fuel
filter and bunch of water that came
through during all that rough weather
and it basically destroyed our fuel
ejector pump so we're gonna bust now so
what's the strategy what what Ceylan oh
we're sailing we're sailing fishing we
got a line oh yeah everything else works
we just just got no pushing I mean you
got his email out to the girls so they
know that we're gonna be a little late
cuz we were so far ahead of schedule
I was already picking out the tours that
I was gonna take somebody jinxed us
again again the blame is on me as it
turns out we're only 260 odd miles away
from the Galapagos Islands and we're
sailing out about five and a half six
knots going in the right direction we'll
get there eventually
right on under sail power alone in our
next video we cross the equator and
become shellbacks please subscribe or
give us a thumbs up if you like the
