In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we enjoy a typical day sailing the Turkish coast. On this particular typical day sailing the Turkish coast we travel from Datca town quay to Akcali bay and we're pleasantly surprised how good the anchorage is. #SailingABSea For your convenience, we’ve included Amazon links. this is dacha south harbour we're going
to
reconfigure our lines because we're
planning on leaving here at seven
o'clock in the morning
so we want them just prepped and ready
to go so we can start the engine
slip the lines pull the anchor up and go
[Music]
[Music]
they're both playing together yeah are
you ready
[Music]
she's up she's playing
[Applause]
[Music]
an 8 30 am departure from thatcher and
can't remember the name of the next
place it's on the screen right now we
expect it to take about
six hours probably less what we're
basically doing is we're going around
the corner here and over to the other
side of this peninsula and we'll be
anchoring up in a small anchorage over
there because
when the wind does fill in there's no
wind right now but when the wind does
fill
in it will fill in from that direction
and blow in that direction
so the anchorage we'll go into will be
protected from the wind
windy reckons that we're going to get
about
12 knots today if that is the case once
we turn this corner and it fills in
we can get some sail out but if windy is
wrong
and we don't get anything we're using
the iron sail again
beautiful day it's about um 20 degrees
right now which is nice
very comfortable sun is shining
just a little bit of a hazy sky
gonna be a chill day we just turned
right
here
[Applause]
[Music]
sea state is so much calmer than it has
been the last few days when that really
big wind was blowing
it's actually quite mild today i haven't
even got a jacket on
just a jumper and it wasn't even
mentioned
doing posh thing by rolling up the
sleeves
done it today
not a lot of wind well actually no wind
even though we're motoring forwards
so we're using the engine today
[Music]
that is the greek island of tilos so
close and yet so far
that is the greek island of niseros
and we're coming up to nados an
anchorage that we visited last time we
were here
that's actually the site of an ancient
[Applause]
port
love the color in the rocks here cream
with a rich
deep ready sand color
we're just rounding the tip of the
promontory
at nidos and that's a
very distinctive lighthouse
[Applause]
so this little bay on the north side of
nidos
also has the remains of an ancient
[Music]
harbour
and that big island over there is the
greek island of coss
tonight's anchorage is just around this
tip here
in there
[Music]
and hopefully this swell doesn't reach
into the bay
it's quite bouncy
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
so we're here um
[Applause]
i'm all ready to go
looks like we got a mix of satin weed
i think it's mostly sand though
yeah just let me know when we're over
that over that weed
pass that weed
all right then
drop it and go to 30.
okay
let's love it
please
two six two two
let's switch that fan off
thank you act jelly that's where we are
at jelly bay
actually actually
yeah so um this is
on navally this is like an orange or
yellow
sticker and nobody's left any comments
but to be honest with you
i can't see why this is not uh
an approved sort of thumbs up kind of
anchorage
it's a huge bet it looks small on the
chart but it's actually massive in
reality
and there are quite large shallow areas
to anchoring you know four five six
meters which is
pretty good it's mostly sand with some
weed but
mostly sand so it's not difficult to
find a sandy patch to drop your anchor
swinging free here is great protection
from the way the wind is at the moment
is good
yeah west all the way south
to the east yeah we're expecting wind
from
from that direction which will blow us
offshore anyway
but really we're in we're in uh four
five and a half meters aboard water
with uh 30 meters of chain out so to me
that's good enough at
six to one yeah in sand yeah we're here
yeah this is and it's got a fabulous
view of the mountains behind
which you probably can't see now because
we've swung around a bit there's nothing
on shore
no so people who who want to get off and
you know do bars or shops or something
this is not for you
if they go around to the other bay
around the corner but um
for us for an overnight anchorage well
protected from
any wind that's predicted and
peace and quiet quiet house yeah that's
lovely so
um not even goat bells took us which i
like
four and a half hours to get here from
dutcher exactly not too bad
no we did motor all the way the wind
that was
promised never eventuated so
hopefully the wind that they're
promising for tomorrow is is coming in
because that'll sail us right across the
bay here
in the direction of bodrum uh when we
can see that
we take a a left and and head up
uh past gamoche look and around to the
other side of that bay
to anchor uh for tomorrow night
protected again
from the predicted wind yeah plus you've
also seen gamuche
because we did that last time we were
here yeah so we want to bring you lots
of new
bays it's just another place that you
think well
you know why is why has nobody done
anything on the shore i mean the
shoreline is littered with plastic and
you know debris from storms and
waves and wind that wash stuff up
there's a couple of fisherman's boats
there's a couple of what looked like
turkish holiday
homes but the mountains come all the way
down
to sort of hills and then to the bay so
it's lovely so i mean it would be a
great place if you like hiking
yeah to just dingy over and then take a
walk
take a walk it's beautiful yeah and the
sun's shining and it's nice and mild
yeah smells good
right lunch lunch
okay lunch actually lunch actually
uh angeli
as you can plainly tell from the
background we are no longer at anchor we
are back
in the marina cash marina in particular
and the reason we've come back here
is because of covid restriction
lockdowns but more about that later
right now though i'd like to welcome on
board our latest patrons
they are debussy welcome on board and
