It's Friday the 13th today... Oh good have we got bananas on board as well? It's now six hours
to Marmaris. We need to go to Marmaris to get more fuel.
Oh I am going to kill a beer after this, it's just so f#$%ing stressful. I might as well. Bl#$%y hell.
Ooh! Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh!! Oh!
Just reverse.
I'm Barry, I'm Aannsha, this is the continuing journey of Sailing A B Sea
Shall I go up to the slime line?
Yeah go to the slime line
All right drop it
then come back and grab this line. Let me know it's clear
It's Friday the 13th today. Oh good, have we got bananas on board as well?
Yeah and we just left Sogut. It was a lovely little baby very charming. It was nice it
was very pleasant uh definitely come back here again. Yeah yeah. The
facilities at the restaurant jetty absolutely spot on superb. Yeah and I have to say the service
is as good as any service I've had in any top class restaurant. Not that I've been to
many but when I have ... they were as good ... Yeah absolutely, five star. Yeah. It's now uh
six hours to Marmaris. We need to go to Marmaris to get more fuel. Uh it's going to be a windless
day today uh any wind that we do get will be just localized wind so short brief and whatever it does
and I think it's also going to be a windless day tomorrow for our 13-hour run to Kas. Yeah
Gotta run with it. I mean you know, we could sit and wait for the wind but then
we've only got like a couple of weeks left on our contract in Kas and we want to
get back and... make the most of it ... make the most of it and say goodbye to friends and
you know so that's the only issue really with sailing the Mediterranean and the Turkish coast is
the wind basically goes in two directions and it's either on or it's not on really. Yeah pretty
much. So you know if you're a, if you're a day sailor or you're saying for pleasure that's
great because you can just go, ooh you know there's like three hours of wind let's just pop out, but
for us... who are going from here to there to there to there... yeah you know we live aboad
we go from place to place, we can't always wait for that wind. Anyway uh yeah Marmaris is that way. Marmaris. Marmaris!
See you there
It's quite busy today, we've passed quite a few sailboats since we left Sogut.
There was a little boat that took people out for day trips that was moored next to us on the jetty
and when they came in yesterday I went to help take the lines but the lady didn't actually
need my help but she came back and gave us some cake to say thank you which I think was really
lovely so we've had that for breakfast. We've got some current with us, we're doing 7.9 knots
I'll take anything you've got baby! So uh Marmaris is in there. So we've gotta go
around here and in there.
These blue hulled yachts when they're clean and shiny they're absolutely gorgeous
you can see the waves reflected in the hull
So here's another interesting bit about currents. Uh 4.9 knots of speed over ground
we're still at the same revs still in no wind situation 3.5 knots of wind we're
probably creating that ourselves um but yeah the current has now slowed us down to 4.8
Just a little bit of current. Quite surprising to see that in the Med
If you've been watching closely over the last few episodes you'll have noticed me making some
silly mistakes when coming into a berth or even coming out of a berth and there
are several reasons why this was happening. The first one is tiredness. I suffer from sleep apnea
and when we're at anchor just with our house batteries I can't use my CPAP machine to help me
get a full and good night's sleep, so there's that into uh part of the the reasoning. Another part of
the reasoning is we've been out uh at anchor for many months and um there's a lot of mental energy
required in planning and you know where you're gonna go, where you're going to anchor, how long
you're going to stay, where you're going to get provisions, how much fuel do we need. There's a
lot of mental gymnastics that goes on with all of that. Um now when we came into Marmaris to
initially just refuel, when we got there it was change-over day and so we had to queue. Well it wasn't
really queuing, it was just milling around a uh sort of turning area with several other boats and we
were doing that for an hour uh while we waited for our turn to go to the fuel berth. Oh I am going to
kill a beer after this, it's just so f@#$ing stressful. I might as well, b@#$%y hell.
Finally, we actually got in touch with the marina office and said look you
know can we come and stay for a couple of nights
Port Marmaris, Port Marmaris Port Marmaris. This is Sailing Yacht A B Sea, A B Sea, A B Sea. Over
A B Sea Port Marmaris. Yeah, good afternoon Port Marmaris
we are just entering the marina and require assistance from the marineros to take us to our berth, over.
Okay welcome. Please wait a moment. We are a little busy but we will help you. Okay this is A B Sea standing by on 7-2.
Well it was a charter boats changeover day so the marineros were running around like crazy people in
doing this and getting boats in here and getting organizing stuff. Sir do you want I come aboard to help you very much. Yes.
We are going to Charlie. Charlie. Yeah I find the best place for you
I'll reverse in
You are very busy now. We are so busy. Crazy
It is all the charter boats today
So when they backed us in you could actually see in the footage here one of the marineros
marinaros looking at his watch as if to say how long is it taking this guy to
back into the berth. So when I came into the turn to back into the berth as I did the turn I went
you've done that too quickly you've... you've turned too quickly. Now under normal
circumstances I would go out and come back again but the marinaros as I said were under a lot of
time pressure to try and keep all the boats coming and going happy, so I kind of let it go
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh! Oh!
It's fine. Just reverse
Fortunately nothing was damaged, nobody got hurt, nobody died, but yeah that's a little bit of an
explanation as to my mental capacity deteriorating towards the end of our trip out for the summer
Reverse, reverse, reverse
okay. All right tie it off.
Okay cool. You YouTuber? Yes - evet.
So you're on camera. Yeah. Hello!
My name is Argon (?) Thank you. Tesekkurler
I take this YouTube name, we will follow all. Yeah and you saved us, that was good!
Have a nice day. So have you been this marina before?
Yes. So you know all about the office. See you later. Gurusuruz.
We're here. We're at Marmaris. For
two nights. And uh wow queuing for fuel was just mental. There were so many charter boats. Yes it's
charter changeover day - yeah - so everyone's coming back in to pump out and fuel up. Yeah
so that was a bit of a roundabout situation but oh those guys are working really hard
on the fuel dock and also the marineros are working exceptionally hard
Yeah. Yeah and they did very well today didn't they? So uh yeah
it's very hot, I'm very stressed. I need to relax. And I'm so thirsty I could drink a gallon of water
Buy a boat they said, it'll be fun they said. You'll relax they said! It'll be relaxing!
They lied!
Way back in episode number 182, we were in Marmaris and we wanted to go and have a
look at the fort. And we eventually found the fort. After much wandering around but it was closed!
And we promised you that we would go back there when it was open next time we were in Marmaris
So it's the middle of the summer season and we're in Marmaris so we figure its got to be open today. Got to be, got to be
Better be because available close to 40 degrees of heat and you know it's no mean feat walking
down there. Oh stop whinging. You're doing that whinging pom thing again!
So we thought we'd bring it to you today. Yeah
We're in!
The reason the castle was built here was because it is a good transition point uh if you're
thinking about transiting via the sea uh between the Aegean sea and the Mediterranean as it is now
and uh being a port city they wanted some
fortifications to make sure that it was kept pirate free
So of course you know saving your your area from pirates was a major thing back in the day yeah
Murray Westenskow might be good at this. No he'd fall asleep on the job. Would he? Yeah absolutely. Okay
Wow so this is great because we've been to Knidos. Yeah. And um we can actually
put the link in the video up there to show you what Knidos looks like. Yeah. And these are some
of the artifacts that they've found there and there are even statues outside that are from
there as well so it would have been exciting to find. And this stuff that's on display here
has uh in the majority being found underwater from shipwrecks and stuff like that which is why
scuba diving in Turkish waters is a prohibited activity unless you are
guided by an officially registered Turkish dive guide, because they don't want people
finding this stuff on the seabed and going, Ooh that looks nice, I'll have that. Antiquities
This little spot here was where Murray was still found sleeping
after the pirates had taken over the castle, tch, tch
Pretty big eh? Yeah
Wonder if it was for soup or wine or grain or oil
I'd like to think it was filled with wine. That's that's my thought, full of wine. That was good
It was great, I mean I wasn't expecting a lot because it's only a small fort
but there's actually lots packed in there and ... Well presented. Very well presented, always is. Yeah
And it's very pretty in there too like it's very picturesque so... a good way to spend an hour
or an hour and a half, just wondering around. Yeah.
Anyway we're going to treat ourselves to... A view. A view. With a drink. With a cold drink
We're going to this place here, it's called the Panorama, best
view of town, recommended by Lonely Planet and we do like the Lonely Planet guides
so we'll take their word for it and let you know when we get there. And it's only 50 metres. That's not far at all. No
This is it Baz.
This is it. I hope it's open.
Good food, good drink, good view, it's worth the climbing. Okay!
Let's do it. I love it
One of the things I like about these old streets is because they've got
so much shade it's actually cooler. Yeah it is
Merhaba. Merhaba
Okay we've just been to the Panorama. Fabulous. Really good view. Yeah and the
people are lovely. Very nice ladies. ... Two ladies were lovely. Yeah so it's back to the boat yes and uh
Well I don't know I'm gonna treat myself to a pizza
have a pizza. Haven't had a pizza in a long time. I'm gonna have a pizza
This is what you call a great delivery!
Oh oh and onto the pontoon as well. Wooh!
All right. Bye-bye
