At 6.7 knots it's going to take us an hour to get to the entrance
to the protected channel that'll take us to Kaş marina. Are you secure?
I've got no length at all
Okay. I'm gonna abort. Drop that line. It's not tied to anything. Well, just, look, just drop the line
No! No, he can come and get it!
No they can xxx fish it out! I need to abort this now! I am the captain. Abort. Drop the line
I'm Barry, I'm Aannsha, this is the continuing journey of Sailing A B Sea
Barry calling for marinero assistance to leave the berth. Office confirming marinos will come and assist.
Thank you. A B Sea standing by on 7-2
Okay. Tamam, teşekkürler (okay thanks). Görüşürüz (see you later). Görüşürüz
We're on our way. We've left Marmaris. Yay-hey-hey!
It kind of sucks you in there, you say I'm just going to go for one day and then ended up being
five days. Yeah I know we were editing and then Jim was there so yeah... So we finally left and we're now
on our way to Ekincik which is two, three hours from Marmaris. About 3 hours. From there we're
going to Gemiler area or Karacaoren, just depending. And the last hop is from there to Kaş
so we're almost home. Yeah. I think you're a bit tired aren't you? Tired, very tired yeah.
You need a rest. I do.
So we're on our way to Ekincik, which is in here
we don't have a lot of wind so we've got the motor on, we're doing 2400 revs
and we've got a current speed over ground of 6.8 knots. It has been up to seven you know
varying a little bit. So at this speed we should be there in two hours that's all right. Look, 1.4 knots. [Laughs. Sighs.]
Deck's really hot. Ow, ow, ow!
There's that little wind, the Australian flag's not even moving
Just passing there
We're going to be going around this piece of land and then just a little way
in on our port side is a little bay which is where we're heading for
Ekincik and for some reason known only to the wind gods we have wind coming from the south
east which means this bay is exposed. Not much wind but it's still from the south east
Just don't get it, I really don't! It's not what Windy said is it?
No it's not. Anyway the little bay that we looked at that we wanted to stay
in had about six boats already in there some some were line ashore and some were swinging at anchor
A couple were at anchor weren't they? Yeah
There was a little space in there but it was too shallow. Yeah
Next time on Sailing A B Sea!
Hey if you like what we do you can support us really easy
by just giving us a big thumbs up and if you haven't already subscribe
and ding the bell and that way you get notified of all of our future video updates
It's busier than it was when we were here last time, more people. That's actually where
we were standing when we made the last video at Ekincik, just to give you some perspective
It's just coming up to 6 a.m and it was and interesting anchorage, there doesn't seem to be
much swell coming in but what little there was when we were just in the right position it was
just enough to give us a bit of rolly rolly. Not real bad, not like a pendulum. But annoying rolly
rolly. Yeah yeah where you had sort of rearrange yourself in the bed so that you kind of didn't
keep falling over! That included the 38 degrees of heat, it was like being in a sauna lying in bed, then
the two o'clock boat decided it would be great fun to load up with people and come sailing out of the harbour
with the loudest music ever. I know! ... Go up there for some distance
turn around come back and play loud music
all the way into the harbour at two o'clock in the morning, gawd
Er... So you're ready to move? Then at three o'clock I had my first mosquito so I had to
nuke the bedroom quarter. So all in all not a really good night's sleep and we've got
five hours ahead of us so it's leaving at six to get there around about eleven.
Oh and there will be zero wind today if Windy is correct. So let's do it
Well we've still got bugger all true wind dead on the nose coming out of the southeast and
that's exactly the direction we're heading. Uh our apparent wind is 9.4 because we're creating that
what we've also got is... not sure this camera will pick it up but we've also got this
sort of long slow swell coming in from the open water and it's causing the boat to roll so
in order to slow down the roll we've deployed the main and it seems to have uh helped a little bit
and who knows if the wind does pick up we might even get some speed out of her
There's some idea of the swell and see how these
boats that are going in the other direction are sort of splashing, making lots of waves
And Gemiler bay, Gemiler
island area is just around this corner
That's actually the bay we want to go to and that yacht that's coming out he actually went
in looked like he wanted to anchor but has come out again so that leaves it free for us, sweet
All right pop it over the side
Still in 11 metres
Okay drop it and go to 30 to begin with
Thirty
Are we too close to those rocks there?
No, so give it another five and then snub it
[Crunching sound]
What happened there? I don't know if the anchor's dragged.
Can you see it?
All right, bring it up we're gonna do it again
Okay is that 30 to the water? Yes. Okay so we're in nine. Yep snub it
We're in. We're in. We're in uh the Gemiler bay anchorage, we had a bit of an
incident with the... what we can only figure out
as er, we've anchored twice here before so we know what roughly, where to put the anchor so
the anchor went in but then just as Aannsha was about to let out some more chain and snub it
there was a grinding [Aannsha makes grinding noise]
so what we figured out was that the chain must have got wrapped around a rock
somewhere in the whole process yeah and as the boat then turned with the wind uh it
gave, you know, it let go of the rock. Yeah. So anyway we brought it up. Yeah just in case it was dragging
but um yeah we figured that was probably what it was. We've seen the anchor. Yeah.
Yes so I've been looking forward to having a swim all morning and there's kind of bubbles and a bit
of ash floating on the top of the water, I'm like, I think it'll be all right, it doesn't look as if a
No... holding tank has been emptied. It's too um uniform to be something like that yeah
It might just be the um bubbles from the boats. Unless it's some sort of fire-fighting agent that's
got into the water and the boats have churned it all up. True. I don't know, just guessing now
Yeah. Anyway it's just uh just coming up to midday - yes - uh we've got blogs to write before our seven
hour run yes back to Kaş tomorrow.
Come on the pool's closing time to get out now. Ah no, it's fun!
All the days that we've been in marinas I've been dreaming of this. I ain't getting out!
I'm guessing that's somebody's idea of fun uh and maybe I'm just becoming an old fart, but for me
when we first visited Gemiler before the season had started it was perfect. Um but the good thing
is you know eventually all of these lot they're going to go back to their home base, the waters are
going to settle down, we're going to be sat here at anchor and you know we can enjoy the peace
and tranquility that really is this place and if you are gonna stay overnight here you then get
the ability to go to the island early in the morning and explore that before these guys arrive
I hope YouTube doesn't flog us for copyright here!
Well another early-ish departure, this
morning was a 6.20 departure time uh we're on our last leg down to Kaş. Woohoo! Or Kush as uh
someone prefers to call it
Um 6.6 hours ahead of us. The anchorage there at Gemiler Bay got a little bit rolly
overnight and that's because there was no wind from the north and the wind gods compensated by
filling in a little bit of wind from the south and just enough to create a little swell that came in
I mean it was really bad. But it was annoying because it kept waking me up, so again another night of
very little sleep for me um right now we're kind of well i don't want to use the term beating into
it because it's not really not bad but we're getting a bit bounce. Yeah. Um once we turn the
corner and start heading in a southeasterly direction we should be okay. Yeah. Unless of course the
wind gods change their mind at that point over there. Yeah it's gonna be hot. Yeah it's definitely going
to be a hot day. There's humidity in the air. Yeah you can feel the moisture. Yeah but I'm looking forward
to it. Yeah. We might just do a segment in one of the videos, how long we were out, how many anchorages we visited
how far we journeyed, how much diesel we used.
All right. Okay. Okay we'll see you when we get there or if not, before
Okay well it's coming up time to turn
Nice job Number One. Thank you admiral
Getting to the south eastern end of Patara beach is always a
nearly home feeling, if Kaş is your home and uh we're actually still about
two and a half hours out of Kaş but this feels like you know we're nearly there now
We're just coming inside of this island at the moment and if we look over here that's Kalkan
Somebody's emptied their ... Somebody's emptied their holding tank. I wonder who that could have been.
Yeah look at that, disgusting. I wonder
This little bee flew on board and Aannsha figured it was thirsty so she got it
this bowl of water. I'm not sure how much water she thinks one bee is gonna drink
Normally we don't like to break the flow of the video
but what you're about to see next, I think requires a little bit of context and some preface
When we are bringing the boat into a berth, from the minute that slime line is securely attached
to the bow cleat to the two stern lines being attached to the pontoon and the boat safe, takes
usually a minute and a half maybe two minutes depending on what's going on. What you're about
to see next is us bringing A B Sea into the berth at Kaş marina, we've done it plenty of times
Now unfortunately on this particular day several things happened at once. First of all
there was a brand new marinero, we'd never seen him before and in our opinion he shouldn't have been
out on his own, he should have had someone with him showing that showing him the ropes
Now when he got the lead line for the slime line he reversed back too quickly and it snapped the
lead line and he was just left holding the slime line. So at this point he's trying to
get the slime line attached to the bow cleat, but it's too short and he basically just left Aannsha
stood at the bow holding on to this line that she couldn't do anything with. Then he goes ashore. I've
already got two guys behind me on the on the shore with the lines they're secure. He needed to be
at the bow, but he didn't know that. So after about must have been five or six or maybe seven minutes
of being in this position where we weren't secure at the front but we were secure at the back
and there was no boats either side of me so the the wind kept taking the bar across to the
starboard side and I kept correcting with the bow thruster, I cracked nana and I said right that's
it we're out of here, I'm aborting this and um basically Aannsha up at the front holding the rope
uh the slime line, realized of course if she dropped it it would just go to the bottom
and they'd have no way of retrieving it. But at this point I really didn't give a crap
So take that context into what you're about to watch.
Okay drop it go to 30.
We've just dropped the hook in the area of Kaş marina and we've done that because
we're about to go to the fuel jetty and refuel but before we do that I want to put both of our
20 litre containers of already bought diesel into the fuel tank because that stuff's been sitting in
those containers now for seven months, probably a bit more and I really don't want it sitting there
over the winter. We haven't had to use them as emergency fuel on this trip um so what we're
going to do is uh for the rest of... between now and when we get to Finike for winter
we won't be doing any really long trips that we are likely to run out of fuel so they don't
need to be full or refilled until next spring of 2022.
Stick that in there and do some pumping
Really some only very small fine black particles in the bottom
which the filters would have taken out of the fuel anyway but you know that's pretty good considering
What is your boat name? A B Sea. Roger that Captain, we will send a marinero, over.
Slime line lead-line snaps. Uh-oh
Okay well I [ __ ] up completely. Uh-oh
Baz, forward.
More slack, we need to go forward.
Are you secure? I've got no length at all.
Okay there is not enough rope. Not enough
Have we got extra rope?
Well I'm at the helm so I can't look for extra rope in the locker
It's just looped on. That's not gonna work no. All right
Hang on, hang on ... No no no... I could just ... No no
Okay, I'm going to abort
Drop that line. I'm going to abort, come and take the stern line. Drop that line come and take the
stern line. What? Drop the line come and take the stern lines, I am aborting
I can't hear you you've got the bow thruster on. I am aborting drop the line! Okay!
But I can't get it off the cleat!
I can't let this go, it's not tied to anything.
Well, just, look just drop the line
No! Let him come and get it.
No they can [__] fish it out! I need to abort this now! I am the captain, abort, drop the line!
There's not way of getting it (the line). Well it's not my problem.
Fancy leaving the new guy to do it all on his own anyway. Yeah.
Awesome
