welcome to cactus saline so if you've
not been with us before we are basically
weekend cruisers and we cruise around
the south coast of the UK I say weekend
cruises because we've got a nine-to-five
job and we can't go sailing full-time
unfortunately so I thought now is a
perfect time actually to share with you
the crew and also the boat we sail so
it's myself Kenneth the skipper our
first mate Chuck and our kids SJ and
Jeff and we've also got a stinky little
dog on board his name is Princeton but
we call him stinky because he stinks and
so follow me and we'll share with you
our boat sea cactus so just wanted to
say as well that please hit the
subscribe button down there and
subscribe so you don't miss out on any
of our videos but also if you like the
video give us a thumbs up as well so
here we are this is sea cactus and she
is a Bavaria 30 cruiser and she was
built in 2006 designed by J&J design and
she's 30 foot long a little bit actually
actually she's 30 but 31 foot obviously
she's called a 30 she's got a fin keel
which draws 1.85 meters which is quite
deep for this sized boat and she's
basically a fractional rig sloop so
let's go and have a look up on deck and
we'll share what sails we've got on
welcome on board so first let's start at
the bow the bow here we've our anchor
this is a mountain supreme 11 kilograms
this is fairly substantial for this
sized boat and then up front we've got
our genoa this is basically a furling
Genoa this on the curling system this is
our fairing line which leads back to the
cockpit which allows us to reduce and
extend the sail as we need and that's
basically how we leave the sailing so
this is our anchor Locker inside here we
have our windlass fitted by yours truly
and if you want to see that video then
it's just click it in the links below or
just look at the end of the video and
I'm sure if you're not recommended
videos in here we've got 50 meters of
chain and we've got also a 10 metres of
road as well on top of that which gives
us plenty of scope if we put the anchor
okay so this is our main sail sail this
is basically slab briefing we don't have
single line reef in what we do have a
line for back of the sail to reduce this
hair at the in the cockpit the old front
we have to come up here all the time if
you want to read and basically we walk
you through the reefing cruise which are
on the mass here now there's not a great
deal of room on the deck we can't really
fit dinging up the air we can kind of
fit one on the coach groove here but not
really practical when you're sailing as
well on the coach we've just moving a
bit after we have our solar panel which
we fit it this is basically a 40 watt
solar panel and this basically keeps our
batteries in check it doesn't really
provide us with too much power so we
have to be a bit careful with what we
use but it's enough for us just to go
around for the weekends we've got enough
battery power to last around for days so
it works for us
further back we have our spray hood
which keeps us dry from any of the spray
basically does what it says on the tin
but also we quite like this spray hood
because basically we can put all down
here and then it keeps us out of the
winds it is any wind on us on the back
we have our swim ladder we've also got
this is basically where the emergency
tiller hat where this is basically the
emergency tiller fits as well underneath
the starboard side is our gas Locker or
our gas we only have a small 25 kilo gas
canister on board but it's mustered
fairly well so far
okay so let's take the cover off our
helm and that's the local controller you
go in there
okay so this is basically the helm this
is where I normally stand and I'm
helping the boats and basically in here
we've got all the instruments we need
I've got a GPS that attaches here I've
also got my wind instrument
this basically tells me which where the
winds going this is the autopilot and
this is basically the depth sounder as
well this is just the lead for the GPS
we keep it in a little bag so it keeps
it nice and dry because the GPS doesn't
live here outside I mean not on the boat
hey it's the nautical compass and then
obviously this is just the autopilot on
the helmet this is our throttle we don't
like using this too much cos we like to
be sailing if we're using this we're
using diesel
we've also got a winding wheel where
basically we can undo that their hand
wheel so it gives us better access
around the side
although these bits stick out anyway so
we don't tend to use this very often
under the starboard side we've also got
our cavernous Locker which we'll show
you in a second
so this is our cavernous locker I'm
actually sat on a lot of crap in a
minute but it does go down a lot further
so this is basically where we keep all
of our rubbish on the boat I'll say
rubbish but you know it's all useful
stuff in here what I can remember is
we've got the toolkit we've got a spare
anchor we've got the life raft
we've got buckets we've got ropes we've
got fenders we've got some paddles for
the dingey we've got the dinghy got a
jet wash what else do we got any info
crap crap oh yes we've got all that the
scrubbing brushes for the deck the SOI
scrubber for forgetting our off the
bottom and you've also got spare diesel
in here as well so yeah pretty much
anything we can't find out for lives in
this locker below this locker floor as
well is also that's where the diesel
tank is and that's below there and
that's pretty much it to be honest so
this is the cockpit this is where all
the action happens basically on boat
when we're sailing so on the coach roof
we have basically one winch here this is
for our Howard's for the mainsail and
also our second reef line as well and
basically we just took all of our lines
here to Frankie and tied it we've got no
tidies on the side here because we like
to keep this area nice and clear this is
also where the stinky dog likes to live
when we're sailing because he asked his
favorite place of the boat I guess and
also on this side we've got our
spinnaker Howie it and we also control
the mainsail here so this is how we
release it out and back and that's
basically how we increase speed when
we're at sea we've saved it down on the
side here on the cockpit Komen's so
these are basically the Genoa winches
and we also use these for the spinnaker
as well and the spinnaker if you've seen
my Etienne Tucker videos or anything
like that you'll see that we did a bit
of rigging we made our own Etienne
Tucker and we use basically these blocks
here that I've put on to make our life a
lot easier when we spit the sailing with
this vinegar
okay so I just want to share with you
our clip system and basically all of our
lines
most of what we can have is led aft back
into the cockpit like I said earlier the
only things we don't have is we don't
have single line reef in but for
everything else we've got the out hole
here we've got the up Bowl we've also
got the second reef line and we've also
got the advantage US Mint as well over
on the starboard side we've got the
mainsheet we've also got the third reef
which isn't labeled and hopefully we
don't have to use that too often and
we've got reef number one and we've got
the spinnaker halyard cockpits a bit
small but it's you know it's enough for
us the bane of our lives is probably
this slopey area here because if we ever
sat here in the evenings like this you
tend to slope off but I suppose he stops
you get in everything at sea so a little
bit of a nitpicking but apart from that
we quite like this cockpit because it's
quite nice and safe and it's quite dry
to be honest oh and here's our little
stinky mop it's dinky or better known as
Princeton GT LaRue okay now we've done
most of the deck and the cockpit
if there are any questions then please
just ask in the comments below and we'll
try and get back to you but now that's
done let's have a look down below
so welcome below on sea cactus so the
first one we'll have a look at is the
engine under the companionway steps
so underneath here this is our volvo
penta engine it's only 1900s power it's
not particularly large engine for the
book for the size the boat it's all we
need we don't use it too often to be
honest it's only for getting our marinas
or languages we tend to say up as much
as we can it's got pretty good access
from either the aft cabin or from the
heads and we got plenty of access around
the back of the engine as well I know
that place pretty intimately because we
had a little bit of a water leak behind
the engine which we had to find and
that's in a bit of a nest of pipes and
then moving to the starboard side we're
gonna have a look into the heads in the
boat it's all by any means you have got
standing room for me just and I'm about
five foot eight so any taller you might
stall there it is a bit of a nightmare
when you're in the air opening the door
trying to open the seacocks and
everything else everything kind of gets
in your way
tiny little bit of storage here but you
know what it works it works for us we
tend to use the marina showers and we
don't really have a shower in here very
often if at all to be honest if we can
help it but that is basically the heads
okay so this is our nap station this is
basically where we do all of our paper
navigation electronic navigation is
obviously nobody if we do that on them
on the move so I think there is a
repeater for the GPS down here so you
can see the GPS down here if this bit
foul weather all there also we got the
VHF radio we've also got all the
controls for the boat so this is
basically all the electrics you know
this is where we control the light in
the bilge pumps our water pump and
everything else and obviously the main
circuit breakers for the shore power as
well and that's pretty much the nav
station underneath here lips our
radiators because as we sail in the UK
waters it's pretty cold in the winter
but it's not really the cold that
bothers us it's more the condensation
that happens on the roof and you
normally get that written on your
forehead in the middle of the night
which is not nice so it tends to try and
keep these radiators on they do kind of
wedge in here if you can see this as
well so they don't actually move
anywhere
and also under here as well it's bit of
a cavernous stories there's a spare is
the spare dog's bed and also under here
is our little release patio heater which
I don't think I'm gonna get out but it's
basically basically just a gassy -
issues outside in case it's really cold
up on deck and that is the nav station
but also in the nav station because it
is quite a small boat down here then
it's basically part of the kitchen as
well so in here we've got all of our
pots and pans for yeah bowls and plates
and also a bit of a what I call a crap
cupboard for all of our cleaning stuff
and obviously some soft water some soft
water buns in there as well this is
moving on
so this is our galley this is basically
where we keep all of our knives and
forks down here is in our pots and pans
this is quite an ingenious little thing
we found and as you can see here it's
basically slots into the sink and it
locks in place so actually you can
actually leave this here and even when
healed over this doesn't move at all and
it quite nicely fits the sink I don't
know who makes it really I can't
remember but you know we found it and
you know it works fantastic for us the
other thing we got here we've got a
top-loading fridge pretty big we can fit
quite a lot in there not a great deal in
there the minute because you know we've
eaten most of it and it's just a few
things left over from breakfast here
we've got the cup storage the most
important cupboard on the whole of the
boat because I swear the tea bags live
and the most important device on the
boat is pepper we've also got a gimbal
stone fear we've got a grill and so we
can't really do toast or anything like
that but we do have a tuber knob and we
do have a gimbal stove there as well
and then moving back I'll see you in the
Afghan hello in this little hole here if
you are a bit of a tall person then you
might struggle in there because that's
basically I'm 5 for 8 as I said earlier
and my head almost touches the top there
this bunk is a little bit longer so if
you want longer obviously my feet are
right the back there so you have got a
bit more room but all about that sense
it's actually very wide
I can barely touch each side there and
lengthwise a little bit struggling now
we do have some shelf space up here and
we've also got a little water on the
side there underneath the bunk it's not
really storage because that's where the
water tank is and that's where the wart
eaters well is under there so there's
pretty much no other storage in here
this what you can see in the background
these are just our our sleeping bags and
everything else we put them in plastic
bags because again this moisture thing
and you know it keeps the moisture out
of employment on the boat let's go and
have a look in the salon so welcome to
the salon at a salon but it's a mixture
of all the spaces because the galley and
the lab station are pretty much part of
this as well in here we've got two long
sofas these turning to see berths and
they've got the leak tops and everything
else there's fairly a lot of storage in
here we've got all the other stories
down this side which we predominantly
put food in because it's the closest to
the galley we do have things like
medicine cabinets and DVDs and these
kind of things because we've got the TV
over there and that's basically if we
need to keep the kids quiet for an hour
or two and when we're sailing and over
this side this is predominately more my
navigational stuff and a few bits and
bobs for the boat like lifelines and
these kind of things underneath this
bunk here on the port side
we do have our house batteries so we
have around 300 amps of batteries under
here and there is also a bit of storage
on the back side of it here as well over
on this side this is basically where the
engine battery lives under year we've
got various things on here we've got the
spare solar panel and we've got things
like the Hoover you know domestic things
like that and again underneath this
berthing here we've got the fair bit of
storage as well this thing will
basically folds up into here but I'll
show you that as well
so this table basically follows up like
this but you can never get really can't
really get past it very much very easily
so annoying if this was a whole redesign
this table is probably in the wrong
place and it should be moved there's a
lot that modern designs out there but it
is what it is and it works for us
and that is basically where you spend
most of our time if we're anchor or tied
up somewhere now let's go and have a
look in the back oh so this is the power
cabin in here we have acres of storage
under here but there's no real shelves
under here we do have hiding over here
we have some sleeping bags but we also
have the spinnaker as well and you'll
see that in some of our other videos and
us using our spinnaker when we're doing
a bit downwind sailing down the bottom
in the locker is where the through all
connections are for the depth gauge and
also the speed food water sensor as well
in the sides here we tend to keep our
life jackets in this cupboard here
hiding in there and then in the other
side is just a handy storage area as
well this cabin is I mean the pecs are
fairly long you can lie down all the way
on them but we don't tend to sleep in
here because you can and I'll get a
little bit of fighting with the feet
they're not much feet space but other
than that that's although we just want
to introduce you to the other crew as
well cuz obviously it's normally me on
camera or we try and put as much sailing
footage in 12 videos as possible and but
let's introduce you to the crew as well
so here we have chuck hi here we have
summer hiding in the corner and here we
have Jeff and this little stinky mutt
down here and drinking away there if you
ever have any wine in the background
that is him and thanks for watching
everybody and please don't forget to
subscribe hit the little button down
there or gives us a thumbs up if you
liked the video
