we left
Weymouth this morning it was a bit of a
manic get into the boat we had a bit of
late night last night back at home
fantastic food that Chuck cooked for us
all few wines so it was a bit late get
into the boat and we had about three
minutes to get to the bridge live so we
you know quickly to cut on ties and got
to the back of the queue and managed to
get through the bridge lived at 10 so
today I thought we'd to share with you
today basically a day on the boat
so what we're doing is we've recently
had a new anchor so we bought a mantas
supreme anchor and we want to try it out
so we're going to go and find a cove and
we're gonna go an anchor off and we're
gonna go bait well basically try our
anchor out and also Chuck's bought a new
paddle board so we're gonna have a bit
of a play with that as well so yeah
we're basically going to share with you
a day in the life of I was on sea cactus
you might wonder why I'm dressed like
this this is because the weather keeps
changing so one minute is sunny next
it's cloudy there's quite a few clouds
around us and wind wise it's variable
it's keeps putting us on a beam reach
but then it keeps going around on the
nose so I'm going to keep trimming the
sails every so often but we are saying
we are doing about three knots across
the ground
so that's alright for us I suppose I
mean we've only got eight knots of wind
so yeah cut it with a little bit and see
what we're up to
[Music]
it's a bot with a fish what kind of bird
cormorant what did have fish I'm a
little bit on over its a cormorant and
it's just dived into the deep blue sea
and caught itself a fish or as David
Aston we would say that is a cool brute
this is just caught a fish
[Music]
as you can hear the engines on so which
we cheated
we still got the sails up so we almost
salient and but we we've dropped down to
literally like one not going across the
ground so and that was for to be honest
that was a tight push this the wind's
dropped to like four knots
so there's barely any knots that barely
any wind and I think that's pretty much
because this headland and these cliffs
across the air it's quite spectacular
they're all like talking cliff so they
look quite quite unique but I think as
we're coming around the headland the
winds kind of died off because it's come
in from the land anyway
about an hour away early oh yeah and I
just want to send three hours drift in
there so we all notice a little be there
soon
Wow we've had a bit of a change of plan
so those who you've been following our
channel will know that when we put the
boat back in we had some overheating
issues it was running on the engine for
about an hour and we will slightly
heeled over anyway because we give the
sails up as well but engine overeating
law came on again just as I was outside
the code that we wanted to anchor in so
that meant we couldn't motor in there
and it's a very tight code so sail in
there and anchoring is probably not the
best thing to do so now we're sailing
back because I can't really work out why
the engines overheating
it's got flow through it there's water
coming out of the exhaust it's got
caught and all that kind of stuff we
checked all this after last time don't
know the minute so the plan is the plan
is to sail back with a little bit of
wind we've got takes a bit longer than
we would like that
and then when we get right outside the
Moreno then we'll stick the engine on
just just to get this tied up alongside
somewhere because the engine should
hopefully be a bit cooler by then so
yeah that's that's the fun of their
engines suppose it's one of those things
they sail it but we'll learn from it I'm
just trying to think about what what
could be the problem and I can't really
don't really think what it is to be
honest
[Music]
so it got back to Weymouth fine we put
the engine on just outside and smoke to
the they remained away other way in
obviously the engine behaved that
himself then but I think he's long
enough to protest it properly anyway and
then when we got back to Maude up I took
the water pump impeller out to make sure
that was all cleaned tire that looked
fine no blades missing or anything like
that I had a look at the exchanger and
looks fine no put it in there or
anything like that and I also had to
look at the wall raw raw water strainer
the filter in there had a bit of mud in
it and this kind of stuff but it didn't
really look as if it was gonna be
anything restricting the flow too much
but I clean that out anyway and then
finally I'll mess around with the
seacock as well as their handles not
particularly great on that one but I
don't know if I've been left slightly
cracked close I don't know or if I don't
know if I'm just thinking that I'm ahead
but yes we probably go out tomorrow
hopefully and then just try the engine a
bit more and hopefully fix that but so
when we got back we decided to spend a
bit of time in Weymouth I'm gonna wander
around because it was the the seafood
festival something on that so you know I
don't wonder
there is dead
it's been a bit of a long day so we're
gonna go off to bed and we'll see you in
the morning where we stopped all day
bring it
[Music]
good morning we're just off sailing
again today so as you know from
yesterday we had a few issues with
overheating engines so we affect all
around with a few things yesterday and
we came out the marina this morning
don't attempt fate but everything seemed
in order and then just getting warm and
obviously it's cooling down using the
cooling system but there is a bit
Wednesday so we are we have switched it
off and we are sailing so I'm kind of
wondering in the back of my head whether
yesterday was I know we've had
overheating in the past but because I
couldn't really find anything I'm just
wondering if for some reason we had a
plastic bag around the sail drive
because basically how the how the
cooling system works is we've got these
little holes in the sail drive and
that's where the water gets pumped up
into the boat and the sail drive is a
little leg that hangs down from the
bottom of the hull and that's where the
propellers attach to and if you're
sailing through the water or anything
like that and you get a plastic bag it
can wrap itself around the sail drive
and effectively stop the water flow
going through your engine so I'm just
wondering if something like that happens
and then obviously by time you know we
saw everything
it would have floated off or whatever
because there's no suction there anymore
when we switch the engine off so that's
just something to think about that might
and but yeah we were just sailing today
and there's about nine knots of wind
we're doing four across the ground to go
bed tired against us and obviously today
is actually a lot nicer so I wish I'd
saved my best for today but how well it
was actually forecast worse today and
raining but obviously not
[Music]
okay so swimmer you might be one do you
know why
we're just saying up and down the coast
a little bit these kind of things that's
basically cost where we're planning a
bit of a river trip this summer for a
roughly around three weeks not quite
decided to where we're gonna go because
that's all dependent on weather and you
know what's gonna be happen at a time
when we get a forecast until really two
weeks before we go we get a rough idea
what we're doing the thoughts that the
minute are we gonna go to the Channel
Islands or we're gonna basically coast
hop along the coast and go towards the
Isles of Scilly
but that all depends on weather and wind
and where the winds gonna come from if
the wind is coming from the Isles of
Scilly then obviously you know we don't
want to spend we can have tacking all
the way up there and equally you know if
it's coming from the south then we don't
really want to go into the channel
islands so that's all really all going
to depend on the weather so what we're
doing is basically we're testing the
sails make sure the engines all right
like you saw everything is basically
serviceable and in good order
before we go on such a trip so that's
basically the purpose of making sure
that everything works as it should so I
want to make sure we anchor out right
make sure the anchors fine and all these
kind of things but that's basically why
we're doing I suggest and could have
just tanked it up outside Weymouth Bay
she thought you know we want to test
anchor anyway seems to set alright and
yeah and for once in the UK actually we
can actually see the bottom so if we
just just follow us and have a quick
look at the bottom here this is this is
a first for us we're actually you can
actually see the seabed and that is it's
not something you can only see in the UK
so
now we're just gonna go for a swim
