all right let's again
welcome back to catch selling today we
are going to be sailing two full wind is
not particularly great but we'll see
what it's like when we get out of the
year Marina and now to the town key I
will show you how we do a bit of passage
planning along the way and we'll
hopefully also do a bit of downwind
sailing famous last words
but we'll see once we're out here anyway
and now we just need to wait for the
bridge to lift why not consider being
one of our patrons I'm going to share
with you our passage plan today and
basically take you through how we do our
passage planet now this is going to be
some basic stuff I'm not going to go
into too much of the advanced stuff so
obviously if I do miss some things out
then I might be covered in a future
video on our advanced passage planet but
basically what we want to do is we want
to leave Weymouth here and then we want
to go to Paul that's the plan so first
thing we need to look out for is
obviously the weather and these kind of
things and what we might see along the
way one thing we can notice straight
away we've got some over Falls here and
it tells us there on the chart says over
Falls on East going stream so if you've
got an easygoing stream you know that
there's gonna be some over Falls there
and that's because there's a bit of
shallow ground there and other than that
there's not really too much other
hazards on here the only other thing is
the fire is firing practice area from
the lower gunnery range that's just
something to take into account but we're
sailing on a Saturday so that's not
gonna bother us
next thing you want to do is see what
the tides are doing and then you
understand what the currents are doing
so this book here tired of stream atlas
these are all based on high water Dover
tells you their lot i watered over so
you need to find out what high water is
Dover for today so today is apologize
because I'm doing this upside down so do
you like the 11th Saturday so if we pick
one of those high waters near to where
we are going to be sailing
the probably best one for me going to be
using this this high water here so this
15 12 but another point to remember is
we've got standard time EA UT and for
summertime and the non shaded areas
which is this section we need to add an
hour so that's 15 12 becomes 16 12
there's a high water I mean 10 minutes
between friends let's just say that
that's 4 o'clock so at 4 o'clock and 4
o'clock high water Dover that is pretty
much what the tides are doing so yeah we
can see what the tides are doing at 4
o'clock so we're leaving at 8 o'clock in
the morning so this would be 4 o'clock 3
o'clock 2 1 12 11 10 and that's 10
o'clock and then you can go all the way
back to this time side find out what 9
o'clock 7 o'clock I leave so I guess a
lot nice this is 10 o'clock and then I
will also know that 9 o'clock and then
finally what time we ought to leave so 8
o'clock we've got a bit of tide against
us
9 o'clock tidy turn door and a lock and
it started to go with us and the tide
will stay with us for the majority of
all those hours until pretty much until
1 o'clock I think is so therefore I know
I've got a favorable tried if I leave
early in the morning so it also means I
haven't got to worry too much about it
especially for look at the weather
forecast because the way the forecast
today is going to be a 4-3 if that to be
honest maybe four four times so not I'm
not too worried about these over Falls
but I do know I've got the tide with me
and I forgot the title with me I know
I'm gonna be going fast across the
ground so that's gonna make life easier
as well to get myself a rough
understanding of my course to steer all
I want to do is I want to pick a point
off of st. Albans that somewhere safely
enough away from the head you know
someone less let's say let's pick this
little to make it nice and easy look
flattened long line here let's pick that
position there and then to get a course
to stare it's pretty much destroying a
straight line from where you're going to
come from and there and I haven't got my
pollen plot with me but you can also
just take a parallel rule roughly when
you're gonna go and roughly we're doing
100 degrees and we'll put that into our
plotter upstairs and I'm pretty much
sure that will be a hundred degrees
course anyway because we've sat along
this coast quite a lot quite a few times
anyway and I'll be it if you're sailing
across the tide obviously you would take
you would take into account where the
tides going to push the boat sideways as
well but because we've got the tide from
behind us we can pretty much forget
about that for this passage and then as
we going around the corner of anvil
point and everything else we just want
to go up this monster boy here it's
useful if you're doing a passage plan as
well is to get the the marina going down
or a channel Almanac such as this one as
well because it gives you a detailed
drawing of what's in there and all the
light boys and everything else and also
if you are saying that night and
everything else it does tell you exactly
what those boys are going to be marking
the nice or what what color they going
to be and what they're going to be
flashing as well so they're flashing
sequence and that's pretty much it so
we'll just draw up a quick passage
planet going up at the pool channel and
they'll be it will set or get our lines
off and we'll go morning.you stands out
today
first time I've seen this out the Verena
he pulls back once a
you did you target to the wheat bun - oh
you suppose the best go and get
offenders in yeah go get the Pens in I
thought I've been I've been demoted I've
never given that order before good
morning we are just leaving Weymouth and
we're on our way over to Paul hopefully
he's got a bit cold this morning because
we've just been a bit late and we had to
get the 8 o'clock bridge so we just we
packed around the lines everything
so we're gonna get the sails up now for
you down with my brother chance to get
some breakfast and hopefully be sailing
just waiting with bated Wars cool
weather today is good we like winds I
think it did forecast downwind but every
time I say go I'm going to go down winds
it's always it wins I don't really feel
any much wind at the minute apart from
what we make it
so we'll see if we've got the type that
is those that walk things those and
hopefully it's a Salem knowledge of
course sake
but now it's time to team
birds and seas
sabes a dove
just begun
[Music]
we know what we have its hold on tight
call us crazy but things are funny right
[Music]
we got in
[Music]
so it's about the size of lack of wind
I'm not gonna be able to say another
thing like six mops nothing we're making
this that anyway
boat sailin
everybody out
might have some Tigers but not quite yet
I think it doesn't seem to me Oh
[Music]
Lama Tito
just bottomed out here for a bit and
then hopefully the wind comes later on
board
[Music]
Buzzz crazy but things are finally
[Music]
you and I love you Turner's bride
[Music]
we
we don't need no
[Music]
kill me start
[Music]
we got
I mean
[Music]
even in
just passed while we passed off our
favorite couch law would code down that
way you pay to spin the camera around
and the news
there is another little bay along this
coast as well I think it's called
Chapman spawn which is just in a little
bit which is over there
[Music]
not been there before but it's one place
we'd like to go at some point
then normally we're actually normally
where we tell you now this is normally
part of the law would gunnery range so
during the week you can't sail in this
area because they like fire guns into
the sea I have to stay away from
when did the mini is still still not
doing a great deal
she start to pick for a little bit and
there is a guy over there and he is
sailing but I think he's even motor
sailing or it's because he's really
close to the cliffs I think he might
forget about window clear a bit of local
effect from the cliffs
a bit closer to
Delsin had and then we might try and
Sayla better link
because then also it does does and
basically that means
we passed the tribal gate as such I know
[Music]
don't speak to me for you talking
calling the highest God I ain't got the
urge to come stay a little I don't
either
hold on to me right don't try
silhouettes I'm now stay the night
[Applause]
[Music]
not like Jose
balance very fantastic remember you
we should only carry wallet antivenin
every
[Music]
it's just wasting stride
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
what you just saw there that was the
little shelf in the sieves roughly
around 10 meters deep and then coming
off with it goes to around 30 meters
deep I know we mentioned earlier about
tried or gates and this kind of thing
it's not necessarily a gate as search
it's just an area for to watch out for
so basically we have the entire game
with us and the tide was making flopping
off that shelf and as it does did so
you've got this really confused seat so
obviously you've got all the way there
and this really still on the Shelf
itself we was doing around seven eight
knots through that because the time is
really dragging it through it which is
fine if we're going with the tide but
this is where you have to get your
timings right because supposed to come
in the other way and we was trying to
fight into that there's no way we'd be
able to get through that even with the
engine on full blast and also the very
very bumpy ride trying to go against it
and equally you know if it's really
windy if it's you know a horse six or
seven that's not really a place I want
to be trying to go that close to the
headland anyway when it's a bit rough
you want to stay out away from edlund's
like we did in one of our previous trips
or a round start boy but yeah it's a
couple of hundred meters or so this
procedure flatten out again
as we get further away from the shelf
and then we've got the next title race
which is on dirt head but I quite
imagine that being as as far as that one
to be honest it's snow because they've a
lot of dilson head is a lot closer to
the shore this one sticks out quite it's
quite fair fair bit anyway so yeah we
are sailing we are sailing a bit
I've still got the motor just on ontic
over to be honest not really doing a
great deal but I was just fine and if we
was trying to sail we were dropping
below my magic five knots number yeah
it's got the ended on a little bit now
the wind seems to be shifting around a
little bit so I might have to get the
Genoa in a bit less I can go on just
long enough to get round this head then
I've got a bit of a question I've been
pondering and hopefully our viewers
might be able to help us out here so
normally when I'm sailing along the
coast
typically especially if the tide is with
me I'll be sailing in probably half a
mile maybe a mile off the coast because
then you get a decent amount of Tighe
under the keel and it will take your
boat on away with time now I can
understand these guys over there because
they're sailing against the tide so if
you're sailing against the tide the
logic would be that you want to sail
closer to shore because then tap to tide
isn't as strong there but if you're
sailing with the tire like we are I
don't really understand why the boats
come in the same direction of us are
hugging the coast because they're all
motor sailing so they're not as if
they're hoping the coast to get better
wind off the clips so I'm a little bit
confused why most people for coasts so
close so if anybody knows the answer to
that I'll be appreciative if you could
just pop that in the comments below and
let me know one of the things you've got
to watch out for when sailing quite
close to the coast is lobster pots so
I'm just looking a little bit of a
footage down there so there is a lobster
pot there but because they're tied it's
sitting right underneath the water level
so you can only see it when you quite
close up and it's a calm day today as
well so
you should be able to see these pots I
think it's a case of you know issuing
not ready using the right Paulie or
something I don't know because get one
of those wrap around your prompt pretty
much when I ruin your sailing darling
but yeah it's just something to watch
out for if you are sailing close
[Music]
oh you can't
[Music]
[Music]
over there is the full cheek fabric
coming into the harbor entrance
I get the sails down in minutes it's
very busy in hit
I've got the boat optimum sailing
me
[Music]
all the motorboat I just want to get by
this change bury a person you have to
give way to that and it's never quite
clear when he's actually going to leave
they normally got lights on them in kind
of flash before they're gonna leave
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
there'll be two for once before last
time we came here we couldn't get a
berth in anyway because
I remember the summer the airshow
something like that ball with their show
so integrating right right up into the
arrived into the channel
and Wednesday
I think we need to get a bit better
local knowledge round ears we know where
all the Anchorage's are because then we
can start anchoring out down here
not quite that
read up on pool if I'm honest
I know there's local there's plenty
around France the island everything else
welcome to pool they're gonna be more
enough where all the gin palaces go Ali
the gin Palace production company in the
airport Sunseeker they may make gin
palaces to order I think they even come
with gin stocked in the fridge I think
that's what the rumor is anyway rumor
has it that they do couldn't stop
the other friends of boat available they
still all out the gym
you gotta understand
then we get one chance one chance
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
need a plan we'll be right
top-of-the-line
[Music]
like his baby
[Music]
[Music]
