how's quarantine treating you Senor Zeus
being are you comfortable you don't look
very happy
Zeus it's not out of it
you don't even want to play do you don't
even want to play
last time when sailing valid Chandra we
showed you 27 things we didn't know but
wish we did when we came to the
Caribbean if you're new to the channel
I'm Dan and I'm Noelle and we're sailing
vali Chandra we're from Halifax Nova
Scotia and we are sailing around the
Caribbean and right now we're in Grenada
don't forget to hit the big red button
down below that says subscribe press
that button hey guys so we have
completed our quarantine we did our two
weeks here in Grenada in the designated
quarantine Anchorage and it was long and
a bit drawn-out but not too bad they've
rained a little bit so we were able to
refill our water tanks a couple times
which was great we did a few things to
keep busy you know played some games and
watched a lot of movies and you know
that sort of things but we got through
it and at the end of the quarantine we
received an email that said we can go to
the quarantine dock at Port Louis Marina
and st. George's which we did you take a
dinghy in there and then you tie up on a
long dock with all these other days that
are also finishing their quarantine on
the same day we kind of got in line and
we're supposed to save six feet apart
and wait to have our Cove 8:19 test so
we have the actual cove 819 test there's
two tests there's the PCR test and the
rapid test we received the rapid test
which is done with a blood sample
that's the cheaper and easier way to do
it they have a result within like 15 or
20 minutes or something like that versus
the PCR test which is a swab that goes
into the back of your nasal cavity and I
believe that takes like three days to
get a result so we were able to not only
complete our quarantine but pass our
Cove 8:19 test and enter the island all
in the same day which was great well
it's done we got our Cove in nineteen
test here in Grenada done on shore and
Noel and I both tested negative so we
don't have Cove in nineteen so now we're
off to do our customs paperwork and yeah
there's another line I put the customs
building because everybody was kind of
doing this at the same time so we had to
wait quite a while after our customs
were completed and everything was done
we were able to go and have a beer and
you know enjoy being on land for the
first time in two weeks which was really
we were a little bit concerned about
paperwork for the dog here in Grenada
but it turns out to be quite easy to
bring your dog into Grenada there's very
few questions they scanned our health
certificate briefly and that was it so
if you're bringing your dog to Grenada
it shouldn't be too much of a problem
the Grenada is part of the windward
Island chain and includes the
southernmost islands of the Grenadines
they're beautiful islands have sheltered
Anchorage's high-quality marinas and
boat yards and a good range of yachting
and marine facilities cruisers typically
come here to Grenada to escape the
hurricane zone st. George's is the
capital city of the Caribbean island of
Grenada the town is surrounded by a
hillside of an old volcano crater and is
a horseshoe shaped Harbor st. George's
was founded by the French in 1650 when
the grenade the original name for the
island was colonized by jacques de alden
pop gained the governor of Martinique
carnival takes place the second week of
August we'll be here to participate in
this one our first real carnival since
coming to the Caribbean st. George's has
a humid tropical monsoon climate the
average temperature is about 30 degrees
Celsius one thing Grenada is famous for
are mangoes and you can buy them right
on the street people are walking around
with mangoes and selling them you can
stock up the boat for a pretty good
price
it's been really hot here in Grenada we
got out our wind scoop for the first
time we found the wind scoop to be
pretty nice for bringing air into the
boat and washing air out of the boat and
keeping us cool so we have this tropical
wave thing coming through that we're
dealing with here off and on it brings a
fair bit of rain and high wind the rain
is really good because we can fill our
water tanks the high wind not so good
but we just put out more chain and we
trust our anchor and it seems to be good
so far every once in a while we'll look
at the deck and we'll say holy cow it's
turning like orange it's actually this
sand dust from the Sahara Desert making
its way all the way across the Atlantic
Ocean
hitting us it's crazy another thing you
have to be aware of when you're here in
Grenada is dinghy theft most of the
boats around us that have davits are
keeping their dinghies raised under the
water at night we don't have a DAB at
dinghy raising system on Bali Chandra
some of the other cruisers we noticed
are suspending their dinghy from a
halyard on the side of the boat I've
seen that done in other YouTube channels
so we decided to give it a shot we use
one of our spinnaker halyard and I
rigged up a special line to attach to
the transom of the dinghy and we were
able to lift it out of the water at
night it's a lot easier than pulling the
motor off every night and you know then
still leaving your dinghy in the water
this way we feel a lot better to have
both my dinghy and the motor out of the
water safe from theft and safe from you
know waves and nasty conditions that
might cause your dinghy to break free
and we've seen so many thing he's lost
here there are no coin-operated laundry
mats we found out just yesterday how
expensive it is to do laundry here in
Bermuda it's quite expensive being
Canadians our money is exactly 50% of
the Eastern Caribbean dollar we found
out that in order to do our laundry here
it would cost us roughly $30 Canadian to
do one load which is absurd back home at
a coin-operated laundry place we'd
probably pay maybe $8 a load that would
be an expensive float maybe $5 below in
some laundromats so we're doing our own
laundry right here on deck we washed all
our laundry on deck here in a bucket
with some sea water and some soap and
then we hung it out on the lifelines to
rinse in the rain and then dry in the
Sun I mean you can always expect rain
here in Grenada it seems to rain pretty
often just as soon as we finished our
quarantine I borrow this Barracuda
heavy-duty sewing machine from a friend
so we could repair our mainsail no patch
was required as it was simply just
stitches that have come out the
Barracuda is a heavy-duty sewing machine
for sewing canvas Dacron and other heavy
materials and perfect for sail repair it
runs on power but also has a hand
turning crank so you can run it without
any power or
the inverter it didn't take that long we
put several lines of stitching and her
mainsail should be good to go we stayed
in st. George's for about a week just
last night the Coast Guard asked us to
move they told us it's not an approved
Anchorage so we left without any
argument and move north to grand mal Bay
grand mal is a very small community
we're excited to check it out the
holding here isn't great but we did set
our anchor in sand
and we made short by snorkeling and
checking the anchor before the Sun went
down
