After 2 and a half years in Australia we are back on Kawai in Turkey. It's a huge relief to see Kawai is in great shape and this video is a brief rundown of what we have been up to for the past couple of years.
Covid restricted Trace and I to Australia, and we made good use of the time working to fund future sailing adventures. We both get jobs and buy an investment property to allow a little more cash in the budget.
This video is short, we hope to begin vlogging fully again soon and bring you videos of our travels, hope you enjoy the video.
About us:
Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai.
We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the last couple years we have sailed to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia.
Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :)

hello everybody hey guys we're back and
0:02
we are back on kauai we've been away for
0:05
two and a half years and we've had quite
0:07
a lot of questions about where we've
0:09
been are we okay did we sell the boat
0:12
etcetera i'm really nice by the way
0:14
thanks for caring yeah
0:16
we went home in december 2019 to see
0:19
family and friends for christmas
0:21
and we were always going to stay for a
0:23
few months
0:24
european winter we didn't want to be
0:26
there and we kind of covered happened so
0:29
we stayed there and
0:30
yeah today's video we'll just go through
0:32
what we did it's actually a pretty good
0:33
time spent a lot of time with friends
0:36
and family it's a blessing now yeah
0:38
we're really glad yeah definitely and we
0:40
got to save a fair bit of cash which
0:42
helps us out yeah
0:44
sailing
0:45
yeah we want to talk about that we'll
0:47
talk about how much it costs to keep
0:48
quiet in turkey for two and a half years
0:51
and our next video we'll actually go
0:52
through all the costings of buying a
0:54
boat i've had a lot of questions people
0:55
wanting to know
0:57
how we can afford to do it so yeah we'll
0:59
go through that a little bit today but
1:01
the next video we'll go through a lot
1:02
more
1:03
so yeah excited to be back and explore
1:05
turkey we'll be in turkey for the next
1:07
two and a bit months and we plan to go
1:09
to greece yep go to greece we got back
1:12
to oz we ended up staying with my
1:14
parents we were both really lucky
1:16
because both of our parents offered to
1:18
put us up
1:20
lovely i think we just asked
1:23
and then they were like okay
1:25
choice have we got because it was only
1:27
supposed to be for four months to start
1:28
with so yeah yeah and we're really lucky
1:31
we both got two sets of parents that
1:33
you know would happily keep us i don't
1:35
know if they thought two and a half
1:36
years was gonna happen but yeah it
1:37
worked out really good so we're really
1:38
lucky
1:39
yes definitely and we both got jobs
1:43
which we'd kind of planned to do a
1:45
little bit of work when we were back for
1:46
the four months just save a little bit
1:48
of extra cash and maybe buy some
1:51
property then it got extended for two
1:54
years i was lucky i'm a teacher so
1:56
teaching jobs in australia are pretty
1:58
easy to get currently there's not many
2:00
teachers who want to do the job so i got
2:02
a job in january and you're a good
2:04
teacher yeah but i went back and got
2:06
straight into it and that was before
2:08
cover and i ended up teaching for the
2:10
full two and a half years i think i only
2:12
missed three days in the whole time i
2:14
was there and
2:16
finished on the friday and then we flew
2:17
out on sunday last day at school
2:25
this view has been my view for the last
2:28
two and a half years
2:30
so
2:31
it's fantastic to be finished had a
2:33
really good time but i'm glad it's over
2:36
can't wait to get back to the boat on
2:37
top of that i just want to give a shout
2:39
out to some of my students so 7e 7g and
2:42
8b
2:43
work hard
2:45
study and hopefully i'll be back in
2:47
australia if you graduate but yeah it's
2:49
been a good good
2:50
you know a couple of years teaching some
2:52
really amazing kids so
2:54
work hard
2:55
[Laughter]
2:57
all right mr stevens
2:58
[Laughter]
3:02
i got a job at a nutrition company and
3:06
which at the start was
3:08
mostly just convenient it was close to
3:10
home and we only had one car and the
3:12
hours worked in well with jace's hours
3:14
so that was really good but then over
3:17
covid it didn't actually shut down so
3:19
i was really lucky and i continued to
3:21
work as well for the whole two and a
3:23
half years we were able to save a lot of
3:25
cash and bought another property which
3:28
helps us have a little bit more money
3:30
each week for sailing it costs a fair
3:33
bit of money to leave your boat in
3:35
turkey we left our boat obviously we
3:37
didn't expect to be away for two and a
3:38
half years but we
3:40
had put it down for four months a
3:42
contract with yacht marine but over the
3:44
two and a half years it cost us about
3:46
twenty two and a half thousand dollars
3:48
so it was important aussie dollars
3:50
australian dollars so about fifteen
3:51
thousand euros give or take a little bit
3:54
so we had to get jobs but our investment
3:56
property which we can rent out while
3:57
we're away and it gives us a little bit
4:00
of cash
4:01
on top of the repayments to uh to live a
4:04
simple life here yeah so and we lived a
4:06
pretty simple life in australia as well
4:08
the photos might look like we went out
4:10
and partied and did lots of stuff but
4:12
most of the time we didn't actually go
4:14
out saw family and friends at parties
4:16
and out but that was really the only
4:19
time yeah your your mum did a um
4:22
yeah a friday night
4:24
food extravaganza
4:26
it was lovely she'd cook us up different
4:29
meal each friday from different places
4:31
around mostly europe keep us feeling
4:34
like we
4:35
might still get to go traveling at some
4:37
point or like we still were traveling so
4:39
yeah it was nice that was amazing yeah
4:40
yeah so on top of working we still
4:43
wanted to see a little bit of australia
4:45
on top of that we did plan to go on a a
4:48
trip to new zealand to go snowboarding
4:49
yep yeah it didn't work out the night
4:52
before we left my parents at like 8 30
4:54
p.m came down and we're like ah
4:59
yeah all our bags were packed so that
5:01
happened twice so yeah we didn't get to
5:03
new zealand in the end instead we did a
5:05
few little local trips it was even
5:06
exciting just going to sydney to visit
5:09
my brother we got to do that we went out
5:11
to my parents i had a business out at
5:13
gundam windy so we went out there
5:15
nobody probably knows where that is but
5:17
anyway yeah we also went to sydney we
5:18
caught up some friends down there and
5:20
went to melbourne as well caught up with
5:22
some friends
5:23
we did a couple of winery trips with
5:25
friends as well and then just caught up
5:27
with people on the gold coast
5:29
the gold coast if people don't know it
5:31
from overseas it's it's got the beach
5:34
beach is beautiful so and there's lots
5:36
of restaurants and cafes on the beach so
5:38
if we caught up with people we'd be
5:39
generally around the beach you bought a
5:42
surfboard yep and then i broke my wrist
5:44
i got to do a bit more towards the end
5:46
before we left two weeks after you
5:48
bought the surfboard i think you've yeah
5:50
you want to talk about what you did
5:51
there no not really okay we got to see
5:54
friends and family a little bit towards
5:55
the end we had a few farewells and
5:57
got to come back
5:59
yeah
6:00
yeah
6:01
now people are thinking what the hell
6:02
did she do with her wrist okay it was
6:04
just skateboarding fell off yeah yeah
6:08
wasn't your fault can't skateboard
6:11
so hopefully that's cleared up a few
6:12
things of what we've been doing now that
6:13
we're back we you know we look forward
6:16
to bringing you videos in the future
6:17
usually probably each week to two weeks
6:20
that's the plan anyway yep
6:23
it does take a bit of work chase mostly
6:25
does the videos so yeah spends a fair
6:28
bit of time on them so
6:30
yeah we'll try and get them out as
6:31
regularly as possible i suppose yeah
6:33
yeah and um yeah
6:36
thanks for being patient with us and um
6:38
it's good to be back
6:39
it is bye bye
