Sailing Catamaran mast climb and Rig Check. We climb the mast on our sailing catamaran In this video we show how we go up the 12 metres mast of 'Double Trouble'. Safety is paramount and we always use a main and backup line as well as a good harness and rope handling techniques. Jo supervises from the deck while I go up the mast and check for chafe and wear of the various stays, rigging attachments, ropes and electronics that make up our mast. Fortunately there is not too much to worry about this time, so it is another job ticked off the list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ☕️ Want to Buy us a Coffee? We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you. In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel! Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world. https://www.youtube.com/c/SailingDoubleTrouble?sub_confirmation=1 👏Credits: Thanks to 'Shure ' microphones for voiceover sound. 🎼Music: DT Theme tune - 'Happy' by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... hi there we've decided to put together
some short technical videos documenting
some of the repairs and maintenance that
we get up to on double trouble this
won't be a regular thing we'll just
publish them when we think there is
something relevant to show so if there's
any particular topics that you would
like to see please let us know in the

there we go today we're gonna go and
check our wind instruments and generally
we haven't determined we haven't checked
anything up there in the last six or
seven months I've done a few miles so
it's probably just a good
your thing to chant against it
so the first job was to release this
which is the topping lift and that has
basically dropped the boom down because
we are going to use two lines to get
rock to the top of a mass we always use
the safety we're going to use the main
halyard and the topping with popping
lift is the blue line at the back of the
boom pole sit them up to see we drop the
boom down
it says you want a fender just to keep
it off the roof the topping lift goes
through the back plate and we've already
replaced this once and it used to have a
metal shackle just here and it used to
nibble and wear away at this aluminium
plate so I've just put a bit of Dyneema
with a bit of out of braid just that's
just to stop chafe of the actual Dyneema
and after nearly eight nine months this
is still pretty much good as new
it's it's a really good solution and
it's working a lot better than the metal
on aluminium D shackle that we had in
there before rob has just untied the
topping lift from the boom yeah this is
a new line it's a 12 mil one that we
just had to put on so it's more than
capable of taking my weight and it means
that for our halyard which we've got
running through this this is also a
Dyneema line but it's just a bit more
fiddly to connect to because it's going
through this loop so we're still connect
to it
but walk or run run this one is our main
line Holly it will be back online
yes I can say we always
but these are the other bad boys we're
going to be using this morning these are
our marriage saver what they call
marriages over headsets their Bluetooth
headsets so I can be down here Rock will
be up the top of the mast and we can
talk without the use of hand signals in
the kind of gesturing just adjusting his
harness
yeah we do have the bosun's chair but
Rob's going past the yeah well I want I
want to get above the mast and have a
look at the of the connections on the
very top plate and with this connection
point I can I can get just a little bit
higher than I can with the bow so chance
actually this all that locket or what
especially just about
it's only reason I like it just pinches
in all the right places so now the next
stage is just to set up the line so what
we're going to do is we're going to take
the topping lift onto the electric winch
that's gonna be the main line the best
and then we're going to put the halyard
onto our winch that we normally have a
fairly normal and they're both gonna run
through the East Germans as well just
for safety
going through the background all set
[Music]
so we've just started an engine
basically cuz we're going to be using
the electric winch and the sun's only
just come up so we don't want to pull
too much power too much pressure on the
battery so yeah we're ready to go
[Applause]
[Applause]
so just at the top attachment for the
states and just having a quick look at
how they're all connected making sure
all the pins are still in and there's no
chafe we have a little bit of chafe
happening on the Genoa had it just where
it's running through the mast but to
shave so here I'm just checking all work
through here that there's no loose wires
we've got good pins up here which we
have it should this is all very nice
there is a little bit of chafe just
where this runs through in here so we'll
have a look at that but we can do that
from the deck thing else is looking
pretty good
so we're at the top of the mast so as
you can see with this harness I can
actually sit up now here and see the top
so this is the connection that is used
for wind instruments and I've just
checked that that's all fine there's no
water anything leaking in it's an enemy
a barrel connector basically so all I
can do is just check that there's
nothing leaking or getting in moisturize
while I'm here I'm just going to just
check that our VHF aerial is good all
the other bits and pieces up here
they're all looking pretty good this is
where our main halyard is and that's all
secure and that these sheets are all
sitting here with no
wear or tear and everything is tight so
yeah that's looking pretty good
