STOLEN DINGHY and Marshall Islands Visa Renewals! EP74 This week we being the somewhat lengthy procedure to renew our Marshall Islands visas. Due to Covid 19, we can't safely get back to NZ, so we have to apply for a one year visitor visa. We spend a lot of time at the local hospital, getting medical checks done and finally manage to complete all of the paperwork only to be thwarted by immigration... Then there's a drama in the anchorage as we apprehend a dinghy thief after a high speed chase.... We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you. In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel! good morning it is monday morning we got
back into major yesterday after a very
sporty crossing from malolap
and we've got a busy week ahead uh this
coronavirus means we are pretty much
stuck in the marshall islands for the
foreseeable
our current visas run out next week so
we've got to go and
extend they're offering a one-year what
they call cruising visa
to all the uh the non-american boats
that are here
so we've got to get that sorted out
there's paperwork to fill in and health
checks to be done and police checks to
be done the usual stuff that goes with
extending these things
um rob was bitten by a dog yesterday and
he's got two
nasty puncture holes in his leg so we
treated those when he came back to the
boat and we've started him on some
antibiotics but i want him to go and
have a tetanus
um and we'll see if we can get our
health checks for the visa done at the
hospital at the same time
so it's going to be a busy week we've
got laundry and reprovisioning and all
that kind of thing to do
and obviously we need to get connected
back to the internet which is top
priority this morning after the tetanus
shot
so yeah more later

don't forget to subscribe to our channel
and click on the bell icon to be
notified of future episodes
before we could start any medical
procedures we had to register as
patients with the hospital
this involved having our fingerprints
and our photos taken
[Music]
this is what happens when you get bitten
by a dog a babe
rob's about to have his tethnus
injection
have you not got a bigger needle oh you
need bigger
while rob was getting his tetanus we saw
a familiar face
it was the doctor who had been with the
measles vaccination team at malala
battle
he thanked us once again for helping
them with the ice packs and said that
without our assistance the vaccines
would have been
[Music]
we could help with spoiled thank you
[Music]
well it's tuesday morning and we're on
day two of trying to get the stuff
organized for our visas we spent four
hours at the hospital yesterday
getting things like blood tests and
check chest x-rays
um in our opinion a total waste of the
hospital's resources this is just to
extend visas we've been here for three
months already
um it seems crazy they'd be spending
their money and resources on us when
they could be spending them on the
locals but that's a story for another
day
this morning we are going to the police
station to get our police checks done
which according to our friends on
offshore haven won't take very long
one of the joys of yesterday was we had
to provide some pee and
poo samples so we've had a fun morning
as you can imagine
filling our little pots up with those so
we need to go and drop those back at the
hospital this morning
after that i think we have to wait for
all the results to come back from the
hospital which hopefully we'll get them
on thursday
and then by monday we should be ready to
hand our forms into immigration
more form filling at the police station
and this lovely gentleman here is
sorting out our clearance for us
on our next visit we took advantage of a
free flu vaccine and the hospital kindly
printed out our vaccination records for
future reference
it's very good isn't it very good
excellent that was the small needle now
rob gets the really big one
[Music]
that we need so we can go to the outer
islands safely
of course and thank you for looking
after us no problem
thank you thank you so much thank you
what time is it it
think and we've is in the hospital since
11 this morning
11 o'clock this morning we've had full
medicals it's been mad hasn't it
yeah this is our fourth trip
yeah and we've got to come back on this
friday to pick up on
pick up the forms that now need to be
signed it shouldn't this should have
taken two days
we've wasted hospital time and resources
the people here have been delightful
absolutely delightful if people ask us
to do stuff we don't mind doing it
but it's a waste of resources for the
hospital isn't it yeah
yeah it is a little bit right so so
today we're back at the hospital and
what's happened today
we have our we finally have our forms
all signed sealed and delivered so now
after two weeks of fluffing about
i can put the stuff into immigration
monday after the weekend
yeah oh yeah can't do it today because
you can only put the forms into
immigration on a monday or tuesday
yes not a friday we'll do that on monday
gives us two days to prepare monday
morning
and we have finally got all the
paperwork together to apply for our
visa extension we've got police checks
we've got
passports with us we've got all the
paperwork we can possibly need
we're going to head off over there now
in dave and put our paperwork in and
hope that our visas
don't take too long to come back
let's hope they're open
just point out it's april
okay yeah we'll do that today thank you
off to the finance office yeah let's go
and spend some money
to hand over the equivalent of nearly
700 new zealand
yes don't lose the
let's receipt see if we can find your
hat
so having found the finance officers and
paid our fee it was back up to
immigration to complete the procedure
and to collect rob's favorite
disappointed if it's hat
there it is there's the little hat
listen carefully and you'll hear the guy
behind the desk ask us to come back on
thank you
so we were told to come back on friday
which is the only day that immigration
issue the uh the new visas basically
we've put all our paperwork in we
brought our passports back to have them
stamped and today is friday
and we arrived here to find this on the
door
thanks immigration we thought this was
going to be our last trip to immigration
today
but no i guess we'll come back on uh
monday or a week weeks friday
oh yes a week friday yeah we can't come
back any other day can we tell you on a
friday after email or telephone them
we finally got our passport stamp with
our new visas the following friday
in the meantime we had a very dramatic
day in the anchorage
well talk about excitement on the sunday
afternoon alex and andrew went over to
the shops
put their dinghy on the beach and came
back and it was gone so they put a call
out to the fleet
and someone's just apprehended their
dinghy and they were on the back of a
catamaran
that's unattended over in the other
mooring field they're trying to break in
there's dinghies from about four or five
other cruising boats out there rob's out
there and dave
as fast as he can
and everyone's got radios with them
which is good so yeah it's all very
exciting
it's nice to see everyone uh all working
together to try and get somebody's dingy
back
because you're reliant on them basically
that that's your car without your dinghy
you can't go anywhere you can't do
anything
alex and andrew and the kids were
stranded on the beach at the other end
they've come back after doing their
shopping and their dinghy's gone
so hopefully they're gonna get this guy
hopefully he's going to get a good
spanking from the police
police boat now lights on and everything
where he's going
unless he's already got them
good results are the police gently
admonishing the gentleman now
they have him in their custody but uh
yeah he um he ended up
jumping in and then trying to swim back
to shore so
what's surrounded by dinghy yeah then i
recovered him to here and he kept trying
to jump off to
escape but he didn't feel good
good work everybody good work i bet
andrew's chuffed a bit so
that's good good quickly introduced
andrew and alex are very good friends
from offshore haven
tell us what happened to you dinghy oh
bloody
dude pinched it rat bag while we're at
the supermarket we had a vhf with us in
the supermarket
so the first thing you do is you come
out and you find your dinghy's been
pinched as you call the
cruisers and go cruising fleet crossing
fleet someone's stolen our dinghy
can you keep an eye out and yeah and
that was the key man yeah because
uh white walk spotted it and that was
that was the end of him
the cruiser community sprung into action
yeah
amazing got it back yeah great community
this is the legend
rob actually needs to explain
make as much noise as possible and
realize that i could just
get the dead man's switch
obviously but he was carrying in the
corner at that point
and then cj came in yeah as we were
dealing with all the painter the guy on
the boat just
took a running jump and just jumped
straight in the water and
started trying to swim back at that
point it was quite
the that score would come through so
there was a one meter chopped sort of
thing
because you all he was way up by the
face yeah
and we just did a sort of slow hopper
back
he didn't realize until the police boat
was about
20 meters away what was going on he
hadn't seen it
and uh so he then tried to jump in again
i was like this stopped
yeah after we caught up with him there
were then there's six other boats around
how the hell did they respond that fast
yeah it's it's a small community and
i guess with the cruises man because
yeah yeah we're all over it
i wish i could have been in the action
could you drop them back to the beach
wear it so i can punch her in there
you know i was going to say the same
thing i think the police should have
given you five minutes with him
yeah glad the dinghy's back
very glad very very happy
my husband is preparing himself for his
uh his big moment this morning
what's happening this morning darling
there's a photo call i've got to go and
do
they're getting their photos taken for
the local paper i've been hearing makeup
at the moment
i'm actually gonna put a clean t-shirt
on well some t-shirt would be good but
clean would be nice yeah
after the heroics of the dinghy rescue
yesterday we're all gonna pile into the
dinghy and see if we can all fit
and the capture of the fugitive
always slip slap slot kids
he's talking about the sun cream i am
all the heroes morning
offer their photo opportunity
