We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you. In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel! Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world. https://www.youtube.com/c/SailingDoubleTrouble?sub_confirmation=1 👏Credits: Thanks to 'Shure ' microphones for voiceover sound. 🎼Music: DT Theme tune - 'Happy' by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... what are we doing today we are going
back to measure
we have a bit of a weather window it's
not a perfect weather window it's quite
light winds but light winds is good
they're sort of in the right direction
as well so light end in the right
direction we'll take that
vaguely yeah should be about 40 hours 36
40 hours
yeah so we're taking the opportunity to
nick off today
saturday the 18th of july just getting
the boat ready
yeah we're pretty much ready to go so
we're just going to wait for a bit more
light and maybe leaving an hour or so
i'll let you get back on with what
you're doing thank you very much
i'm joe and this is rob and we live on
board our floating home double trouble

bruno mars over there just putting their
sail up there's a picnic today up on one
of the islands
emily's having a uh a picnic for her
birthday which was on thursday
and mark and andre very kindly taking
about eight or nine of the villagers up
there
i want to save way down and we'll get up
get out of here and start our journey
back to measure
just pottering over the uh lagoon yes it
will be nice to get back out to the open
ocean where we don't have to do
bomby watch yes and it's looking like
uh nice easy weather and easy wind
hopefully we're just trying to work out
how
offshore haven are doing 7.8 knots and
11 knots of breeze
i suspect engines on
captain wrong we're still we're doing
sixes i suppose
we're doing 5.8 5.9
mind you i can't bother to trim the
sails
negotiating the passes in and out of
ireland lagoon
is fairly straightforward they are nice
and wide and we had
excellent weather conditions we used the
southernmost pass
which was the same one we arrived into
so we still had a track
we had also timed our arrival to be
after 10 am
so we had good light and contrast to cby
i remained on the front of dt as a
spotter and joe hand steered
[Music]
things on the helm oh yeah it's always
interesting
roof systems we've got plenty of
clearance so we're all good
brought the headset in because the wind
angle is a little bit funny we don't
want to
mess with it while we're going through
the past so we're just gonna use the
main
mainsail and um
we've got both engines on just for this
little bit
[Applause]
through fairly quickly there were a few
small bombies to avoid and a bit of a
dog-leg turn to negotiate
we saw one not against us through the
main part of the channel
and depths here go from 30 meters in the
lagoon
to 45 or 50 meters in the past
the water depth on the ocean side has a
very steep drop off
and at half a mile out we were already
in 1800 meters
that's another pass rounded bye bye eye
look you were lovely
let's hope we have
yeah nice job getting through the pass
again joe yeah fairly clear
another couple of hundred meters and we
are through we can set the sails and
stop bobby watch it's got atolls to look
out for now
on the outside of the reef just passing
the
southwest tip the charts are a little
bit off here so we're
using our eyes to make sure we have good
clearance we're in the lee
of the atoll at moment so the sea
conditions
are rather nice
how are these alleged calm seas working
for you then darling
uh yeah that'd be all right if we
weren't completely on the nose
so we've uh we've got
one to two knots of drift that is just
pushing us
uh sort of towards roche which is the
island the next island down
so runs east to west and we're getting
pushed onto it so i'm going to point
quite high
yes we're having to point about 10
degrees higher than we normally would
have so that means that we cannot sail
we've got the head cell in at the moment
and
um both engines on and we're just
bashing
we're just hoping the wind will come
around these are the usual horrible
chocolate
and marshall islands no matter what the
weather you get horrible
short steep disease you do but um it
could be worse
it could have been blowing 25 knots for
the last four days which it hasn't so at
least the sea state
is somewhat common but it's still lumpy
but sailing in the marshalls
seven o'clock on saturday evening and
we're still
bash back fashion 14 knots of wind
and yeah we're basically just
flashing straight into the seas to try
and make up an angle
to get past watching at all which is a
starboard side
and hopefully after that which is in
about five hours we might be able to uh
turn the engines off
and sail we would very much like the
wind to come around a little bit more
to the north but we'll see how we go but
it's going to be a stunning sunset and
as you can see behind me
but it's a beautiful
mr birch is on just down shift
having his dinner it's a lovely sunset
look at the light coming into here how's
your chili darling
put your food in the fridge
all right
happy anniversary yeah best way it's 5
30 in the morning on sunday the 19th of
july and we have been married now
for 20 years 22 years
and we're celebrating by shaking
through the sea towards measuring quite
romantic actually
the moon has just come up this is very
small present moon
the sun is about to rise weird it's
coming up just before the sun yeah
and um yeah we're doing we're doing
seven knots now that's not a shadow
i'm not doing too badly i've had a
lovely sleep and i'm gonna go and have a
look this week
so it's the shift change so you're just
making yourself a coffee yeah
yeah it's not been too bad at night to
be honest the seas haven't been too big
not on wood for now and the wind has
been consistent it's been a little bit
more on the nose than we would have
liked but
there you go it our anniversary at the
scene darling yes
there's no schools oh yeah we haven't
had any schools tonight that's been the
first i think for any crossing that
we've done up here
a lot rather than judgment
[Applause]
good morning just had the most wonderful
sunrise it's still happening
after the last hour or so it is super
chill out here we're just coming into
the lee
of malola atoll so the sea state's
coming down we've got about 12 knots of
breeze and it's glorious finally we've
got a bit of sailing that we're being
able to do there are
light fluffy clouds uh surrounding us
the wind has gone a little bit behind us
which wasn't forecast but it's
much appreciated and it's going to be a
glorious day
what's occurring in here multitasking
i'm watching a film
while uh sewing and making
uh or modifying a three dollar
magero flag here on our old courtesy
isn't it so this is from easy price and
it came with a bit of wood doweling
which i've taken out
and i've put a little bit of chalkboard
in there
[Applause]
yeah the old one's somewhat shredded
isn't it i thought i'd put it in now so
the officials know that we've been here
for a while
and that is all that is left of the
first measure of courtesy flag yeah
there's some uh
marshall islands what's gonna say we how
long we've been here six months
seven months yeah that's just completely
not uv treated yes we should ride to the
shop that sold us that shouldn't we and
say this is how long our flags last
for we have currently got nine knots of
breeze
three and a half to four knots
i think adventure might be going on
soonish
well you have to love calm wind days
um they're rubbish for sailing but uh
they're very pleasant last time we were
in this little stretch of water it was
uh pretty scary uh
pretty horrific conditions so it's
marked
change today and it's been a very
pleasant day on the water
in the shelter of maloa lab and our
atolls
so we have just been chilling out to be
honest
catching up on a bit of sleep enjoying
our wedding anniversary
um just spending quiet time
and uh clear blue skies at the moment
absolutely glorious staying out here
having a wonderful time
so we've got one more evening
on the water with you in at about
four in the morning at the pass at
measure and we'll probably have uh a
mooring picked up after
six six thirty so just on first flight
here i'm gonna go and tighten down that
boom because
well it's 6 30 and we have got
seven knots of wind running an engine
we're doing about
4.95 knots and the sea
is flat calm it's a beautiful evening
and the sun is just about to um to set
behind me
so yeah we've had a quiet anniversary
but so we've spent the day on on the
ocean but it's been very pleasant the
sun's been out all day
[Music]
it's been there we've been reading and
snoozing
it's been very nice and deep box down
just having this news now i'm
until 9 o'clock i'm just going to enjoy
this beautiful sky behind me
oh hello oh she's talking about you
i said we'd have a very chill day yeah
squeezing and snoozing and
now we're popping it on at a stately
five knots
[Music]
yes it's very nice
it's very chill very relaxed very nice
offshorehead and kicked our butts
they're getting in in the next hour
we have promised ourselves that we will
learn to sail
mind you i have got a 48 foot camera
so yeah an extra couple of knots over
the course of the journey does that for
you doesn't it
good on the mice so they'll be enjoying
a nice glass of
they were wine 30 to 40 miles ahead of
us
in a 40-hour trip so there it's an extra
knot now basically
kicked our asses but we still
love them makes a huge difference over a
course of the it does yeah it certainly
does but yeah
we uh maybe if we weren't quite so heavy
i think we need to spring change that oh
we also need to do our anti-farm as well
we brought some antifa
in new zealand it's turned out to be
absolutely hasn't it in fact
there's none of it left on the bottom of
the boat is there none of it's left and
the
undercoat is basically uh abrasive
nasty not very streamlined temple
olympic
we think that we're doing at least half
an hour to a lot less
than we are expecting olympic you
promised us we would get three years
after this anti-fowl
it's lasted uh a year and two months
and it's on toast anybody what a
beautiful evening it is even if we are
listening to the sanctuary engines yes
it's very nice very pleasant a marked
difference to the last time
down here so we'll be clinging on for
dear life
easy laid back a big swell
it is the last night at sea we have 30
miles to go
but there is no clouds
this evening so the milky way is out in
all its glory i'm listening to a very
nice podcast
the engines are on seas are smooth joe
is having
a nice sleep we're hopefully gonna have
a couple of hours kept
each and then we'll both be up uh
to get in the past and head to an
anchorage
and uh yeah that'll be the end of the
end of our trip
it's been a bit more motoring than we
thought but
it's very nice and calm out here and
we'll take that even though we're
listening to the motors
we are in metro lagoon uh we used our
old track
and um there were a few lit markers as
well so it's fairly easy
to get in here it is um coming up
dorm so we think that we're going to go
straight
to the downtown moorings and um
do some laundry get some stuff catch up
with some sleep
and get online so yeah that is our plan
for today fairly easy to get in here the
wind is still very light
only seven knots or so so compared to
last time which was a white knuckle ride
this was uh fairly straightforward but
um because it's still dark i am keeping
close attention
on any items that may be in our way
between here and downtown so i'm gonna
get back
