What's the best thing about living on a yacht? Find out in this week's New Caledonia travel Vlog, as we also reveal many cruisers most stressful moment, befo...

I think if it canvassed a bunch of
cruisers about what are the downsides of
cruising one of them would definitely be
being stuck in a really expensive
country for months on end affecting
repeaters to your yacht oh it can hurt
but the flip side to that is that you're
living on your own home on your mobile
adventure platform so basically you can
up sticks whenever you feel like it and
that is gonna be the number one bonus to
this lifestyle everywhere you go
you're taking your home with you and you
can move it any way you like all you
need to do is raise your sails and
you're heading on at the bay we're but
there is a slight matter of customs and
immigration to get around
[Music]
so we're just hitting into the markets
to pick up our stores of fruit and
before we head off to find erotic it's
pretty good here it's pretty expensive
though and we're a bit late so hopefully
we can still grab some some goodies with
prices for food and internet in New
Caledonia far exceeding our modest
budget we decided to make tracks to
Vanuatu Dez was just strolling me out
some cash we spend about $800 Australian
dollars a week I'm just freaking
here brisance and avocados about $9 so
yeah we're trying to be as mindful as we
can
the port Mosel markets have got a wide
variety of produce with a lot being
imported from New Zealand or Australia
which did seem strange actually for a
country with such vert are looking soils
[Music]
as you can see it takes us a few days to
load up just move our little bags we
should have brought the Charlie with the
provisioning done we wandered through
the town square on our way to
immigration to check out of the country
ok so we've got a little lift for a
really lovely rich man who I didn't
understand much of what he was saying
but he was fabulous and he was very
excited about Vanuatu so we're very
excited about Vanuatu but we just got
our poor clearance from customs now we
just have to go and find the
Harbormaster and get our final clearance
from him and we can fuel up and take off
yeah baby so it's quite good they give
you if you go into the port Mosel marina
they give you a map of what you need to
go to check out because there's three or
four different places that you need to
attend and it is a little bit tricky
because it's not written in English
Adventure you know so far so good yeah
yeah there are extremely helpful it's
quite funny because I'm just going up
the hill I just we just learnt our
school time French what I did and pour
down and he didn't learn any French so
he's a bit lost but I'm not totally lost
I'm in Vanuatu so I have to say that
having a little bit of of schools learnt
French who's been very handy it's quite
funny it's quite comical trying to
figure out other peoples languages and
what people are saying but you can pick
up words and sort of melt things
together radio we're at the port
captains so I think this is the last one
we have to do or not Stan yeah maybe
how's your French I'm thinking that's it
okay the port captain was a super guy
and he's given us permission to just do
a quick stopover at the Lord his it
should be really good we were stoked to
have been given permission to stop at
the loyalty islands which we heard so
many good things about so we were up
early to refuel and make the most of the
day okay so we just passing through what
is called a Havana canal it's an area of
a lot of water being pushed through
various reefs as we sort of punch
ourselves out from the land and away
from the land so we're time to run and
how we play this as we go for an
outgoing tide so that the water will be
flatter and the tide is pushing us out
through the passage so we've got
everything flowing in the same direction
that we are going so the water should be
nice and flat and giving us that push
out through the canal that we're looking
for if you're going on an incoming tide
you're what you are what you'll have is
water or waves coming at you as you're
traveling out so it can make for a much
more bumpy ride and especially with this
current running at four knots so we want
to make as much use of that current as
possible and help us ping us out through
the reefs so that's just how we play it
and we did where we found that a bit of
a winner
strategy here my bad
is knowledge it's okay so just the key
so there you go so you can see that
current light ahead you can see where
the water is quite flat minutes just
waves and waves and whitewater we're
just about to sail through it and we
interesting to see whether it slows us
down or speed this up that current
slowed us from 9 knots to 4 and then the
wind died out so we pulled out the hits
all for our run to leave food
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
it's way omerta about one and a half
miles away from us slashing oh well I'm
gonna try catch this
[Music]
[Music]
this is well
[Music]
it's just the very beginning of Wales in
next
[Music]
wouldn't
[Music]
the winds picked up so we lift the
whales behind as we hoon dong towards
our destination
we're having an absolutely corcoran
unbelievable
it went been a little bit stronger than
we thought it might be and we've been
cranking along at 7 and 8 knots so yeah
we're actually only got about 60 miles
to go it looks like we're going to
arrive at about two o'clock in the
morning and we'd sort of scheduled
ourselves to arrive about sort of 7
o'clock so we wanted to slow the old
girl down in the middle of night
we won't quite know where we're dropping
anchor
[Music]
when you make another carry perfect
passage food yeah baby
I'm comparing oh yeah baby oh yeah
update from the hell yeah when it's
fresh into a bit 25 not so we're playing
along pretty good
unfortunately we kind of get into here
three or four es bit too soon so we're
going to have to get in behind leefoo
and hope to for a little while and wait
till daylight it's sort of all bombing
country in there so
other than that it's pretty good we got
a full moon in I'm not sure he I may be
sleeping down there that boat you're
talking like crazy but we're flowing
mystery vessel off the port port side
there no navigation lights bit
concerning you don't really know which
way they're going to or fro or whichever
with sort of a minimum requirement is
that
port and starboard port between the red
light on the left-hand side of a vessel
white on the stern say the basic the
basics of it that you at a glance you
know which way the vessels heading at
all time so anyway they've slipped away
so that's pretty good anyway
I'll give you an update later on well
good morning it's about seven o'clock in
the morning and we actually arrived here
in the Bay of Centel at about two
o'clock in the morning it's a really
really wide bay and there wasn't enough
when to put Sarah in home - and we
didn't want to come in and anchor in the
dark and an unknown Anchorage so we just
drifted along at about 1:00 not for
those few hours and Darren caught some
sleep and and I was on watch it was
pretty funny at one stage he dived just
before coming in here and it was
cranking it must have been about 25 30
knots and I woke up I was asleep on my
head it was pretty funny
you got a little bit out of control
there but we've got it under control but
yeah what an absolutely gorgeous babe
there's coconut trees on the beach this
is magic cliffs which I'll show you
later on but for now we are exhausted
and we're going to go
join us next week as we find a village
perched atop some rugged cliffs get a
guided tour and meet the locals
