okay how about finish the master head
couple things left I stuff to finish the
shower which I'll do this summer it's
winter I'm doing it into your projects
and it's kind of children I have some
hardware issues back ordering pizzas so
I can finish the cabinet's the
countertops but for the most part I'm
happy with it and I'm gonna jump onto
the next big project which is about ten
times this size it's the gut stateroom
wife's anxious for me to get started on
this I don't know why just for the past
five years
it looks like this it's my workshop so
I've got a lot to do in here make this
presentable
about two to three months worth to ask
my wife
give you an idea of what its gonna look
like I've already completed the master
stateroom which is a mirror image to
that room it's over on this hall come
down here and this is what it looks like
so what I ended up doing I shaped the
port lights out of here bulkheaded
straight down added some lockers here
nice hanging lockers here a bulkheaded
here put a nice big storage locker there
LED lighting even had room to throw in a
shoe locker for my wife built a cowling
over the diesel engine with nice easy
access and it turned out pretty good a
couple things left will be replacing the
port lights this summer and new hatches
so you see I have my work cut out for me
I better get started

have to be real delicate excavating all
this old cabinetry out of the boat I'm
working with the bridge deck like a
little way you can actually see the
sunlight
telegraphing through the hole it's about
an inch thick the whole materials nighty
core to honeycomb composite
- mesmerizing started to shape things in
this would be the headboard this would
be the light soften up here starting to
drop this wall down here this will carry
through which will create hanging
lockers and storage lockers that would
be a mechanical Locker over there okay
let's check out my progress on the gas
steam room
[Music]
okay I've got the this project is
roughed in you see the basic shape of
what we're going for
it's a good-sized stateroom queen-size
birth of doing everything out of
ultralight materials to keep the weight
down weight is very important on that
Motel so what I've done is I use
honeycomb composite core and I'll
laminate us just an 8-inch mahogany skin
on there and that allows me to get a
nice strong product then I'll be able to
lay fiberglass cloth on then I'll be
able to fair it prime it and paint it
with just the minimal amount away so
it's turn copper to get so far I've also
added this light soften through here and
this works twofold it'll be a light
soffit an electrical chase but it also
acts as a deck stiffener I had a little
bit of flexing in the jack right there
and so I'm beat this up it'll be glass
all in and help support weight on the
deck when we get multiple people up
there anyway projects come along I'm not
happy with it so far we'll see how it
turns out and in their future I've been
battling weather this winter in Seattle
boy it's been miserable rain wind snow
even but we're getting through it this
rings really difficult to keep the
temperature up for the epoxy to kick I
have been putting heat in our living
space so we could live there on the
night but once Emma goes to school went
off to work
I could shut the heat down there and use
the amps to to really heat this room up
to try and get the epoxy to kick so it's
a constant battle trying to get this
room done in the winter it would go so
much faster than the in the summertime
but I did we sort
the time we just gotta keep cranking
along what I've done is after I roughed
this in I went through and coated
everything with an 8 ounce cloth and
West system epoxy I went through and
layered it over everything the lights
off it is now blended into the deck
everything's nice and strong and
moisture proof next I'm going to put a
nice just ultra thin layer of a marine
grade carry compound but I'll do is I'll
just skim this on as thin as I can
and after I you skim this entire room
I'll sand it all out and prime it after
I crying I'll be able to cut all the
lockers in I've got some lockers going
into this this wall here I've got
lockers going into this one here so and
then I'll be able to cut my access and
for the engine calendar after I cut
those out I'll pair those black those
prime and paint and I'll throw them
after soon get some cushions in here
it'll be a finished a room so

[Music]
Oh
sweet something even though you have
skim-coat this about probably about a
six piece of an inch steak on her you
end up sanding it down to about 1/32 of
an inch so for every gallon of Ferenc
compound to use you create about a
gallon of dust
and this stuff is nasty Caitlin's off to
work and was off to school finish my
work for the day and the puppy is asleep
do not poke the demon he likes when I
make a lot of noise so I'm gonna head
down to the guest stateroom and get some
work done let's see where we stand
cap finished skin coding this entire
room with a faring compound I've sanded
everything out it's nice and smooth and
ready for primer but before I do that
I've laid out all my lockers I've got
blockers going down here I've got a
locker here I've got a mechanical Locker
over there and all I do is just lay it
out right on the wall and cut on the
line
Russell laid out the engine cowl because
this will open up and I've laid out I
have to do a a small curve on the ground
here so the flooring could be accepted
in there that's all coming up before I
cut this locker out I'll drill a radius
with a hole saw to get the is when you
use your jig saw to take a radius it may
wander and not be a nice square radius
so I use a whole song today
[Music]
it's Sunday I'm just trying to get
caught up with the workweek this is very
typical it's always a different project
but what we deal with every day just
kind of work-life and extension cords
dust grinding Emma doesn't even notice
hi
[Music]
[Applause]
what you got going on well working on me
this is the exhaust manifold riser right
here so I have to build a cowling that
goes around us to keep the engine noise
and out of the closet keep all the ends
and smells everything out of the closet
itself that's what I'm working on so
this will look nice sure enough I have
everything
so we're always bumping into things and
but it's all temporary this will all be
gone so when you're sanding by hand you
gotta be real careful these little
shards of glass will get into your
fingers and
that's what they look like
very sharp wearing rubber gloves won't
help you just gotta be careful okay this
is it months and months of work in this
guest stateroom I did it over the winter
which I thought was a good idea because
I'll be inside working out of the rain
but in retrospect it was brutal keeping
the temperature up in this room to put
the epoxies to cure the faring compound
to cake it was it was tough but it's
done took me a little longer than I
thought
but everything's prepped and smooth and
fair and ready for me so I am happy with
it so far but after the paint goes down
that's my report card that'll tell me
how well I did so better he'd add it
I am just amazed watching the changes to
our guest stateroom looking at it now
versus what we started with
I find us so lucky teal has the ability
and the patience that I know I will
never have to fight through the project
in the middle of winter you have no idea
what the struggle was I'm so glad teal
makes it look easy I am anxious for the
room to be completed because that means
we can have guests on board okay this is
after about a week of painting what I've
done is taking the door off and put as
tight of seal as I put on here the fumes
of the polyurethane is unbearable
and we are still living aboard so I
didn't want to like kill my daughter or
my wife so I did the best I could seal
it off and ventilate it from inside
let's get in well sneak peek this is
after a couple coats of bright side in
here starting to get white I'm going to
close it up dance to get into the boat
I'm happy with it
keep this sealed up we'll let it cure
for about two or three days before I
crack it open and start putting her back
together
