hey welcome back to sp basic boy
yesterday's sale was almost perfect it
was exhilarating
and we chose on yeah we just had a great
passage so we are here in a walk oh and
we're gonna spend a couple days here
because there's a couple capes and
beaches that we want to explore but
first things first we got to get the
salt spray off and teal has a couple of
projects that we got to get done
beforehand so Emma and I are going to
get going and wash down this boat and
get it all clean
[Music]
okay the girls have been hard at it
scrubbing the boat all morning felt a
little lazy so I'm gonna get some
projects done
you know when Lin sewed up the cover for
the exterior galley cooktop I didn't
have the right hardware to mount it feel
kind of bad port let's see back in
Westport the chandlery there was out of
that part I could have ordered it but we
had to hightail it out of it there's a
little chandlery just a few steps from
the boat I'm gonna walk over here see if
they have the pieces if they have it
I'll get that installed this afternoon I
know a little enjoy that believe it or
not I'm halfway there
[Music]
okay looks like they had my part I just
needed these little fasteners to connect
this canvas down Lin did an awesome job
so on this I think it's gonna work out
pretty good so definitely keep that
moisture out of that stove when we're
not using it she did such a great job on
all the other covers I think this one be
just as nice okay I made all my layout
and I need to pop these in just a matter
of pushing it through set in the backer
lining it up
pressing it on that's it that's how easy
they are seven more
good-looking machine man thank you
[Music]
well it's the next morning you know I
was working on my project and got a
little sidetracked a fishing boat just
came in from black cod fishing with a
load of black cod and he's walking by
our boat and he asked if we were
interested in a couple fish we said hell
yeah we jumped right on that and went
over and toured his boat so what was
your name James Darren Darren yep
Maryland Jay Maryland Jay thanks for the
Cod absolutely I hope you enjoy your
black cod gave us a couple of black cod
Lindh super excited she's never cooked
black cod so this will be a treat for us
came back and finished up my project had
to it would rained all night long and I
didn't want any more water getting to
that stove
it was pretty blustery to just winds are
kicking up out of the east and been
blowing probably in the 30s all night
long
so it was nice just to get the cover on
you know after I put it on last night I
see that I do need to tweak it a little
bit more I'm gonna add one more snap on
here but it worked perfectly already
keeping the water out I'm gonna add one
more snap here just to keep this from
folding down or folding up besides that
I'm pretty happy with it you know this
is just a temporary cover for us once we
get the hardtop on it won't need a cover
at all but for now should work just fine
hey you guys ready to go explore we're
gonna take the bus over to Long Beach
it's only about what three miles away
see if there's any action there cuz it's
pretty quiet here right now
you notice everywhere we go were the
only person on the bus
[Music]
it's a really nice day so we decided to
come off the boat and go to Long Beach
it's really hard to believe that it's
the longest beach ever and I like to
find a treasure for each Beach I go to
so I'm c-coming beachcombing
[Music]
well that was fun got about what two
miles on the beach maybe yeah Wow feels
good though to get out and walk you find
any treasure huh yeah I found one but
you guys didn't let me keep it it was a
great walking stick it was not a good
one it was a tree stump okay that's
enough let's head back maybe grab some
groceries on the way back to the boat we
do a lot of projects on board and we try
to share as many of the projects with
you as possible but when it comes to
little projects we don't share those as
much just because they're just small but
I have to take a moment to just share
this one and it's so simple and he teal
did something that Emma and I have been
wanting for so long back in Westport
Emma picked up this treasure this
lightsaber that she absolutely loves and
she wanted to be able to display it in
her cabin and also be able to access it
without it being ruined and I wanted
something as simple as toothbrush
holders so then I everything is stored
safely when we're underway so earlier
today teal used the same brackets for
both the lightsaber and our toothbrushes
it sounds simple but it just made a
world of difference and these brackets
are so versatile we use them all
throughout they come in different sizes
and I absolutely love it
I mean it just really made my day so
before we leave this area we want to
make sure we take advantage of all the
history that's around here so we're
gonna go to keep this appointment yeah
wonder why that's called that and we're
actually going to
visit the Lewis and Clark center to so
that should be really interesting yeah
and it's all within walking distance
it's about two miles from here but
unfortunately yeah we can make it
unfortunately couldn't bring compass
it'll be a big day for him and and they
don't allow him in the in the center so
it's not raining so let's go Northwest
located at the extreme southwestern
corner of Washington State on the
northern side of the Columbia River Bar
okay we're in Cape Disappointment State
Park we're heading to the North
lighthouse we're about two miles in
right now how do you guys feel maybe a
little over two miles we decided to loop
all the way around the park it's gonna
be about it eight mile walk now it will
be okay we're almost to the to the ocean
back to the ocean this looks a little
rugged out there today it's actually
yeah it looks looks like it it looks
huge okay we're coming up on the North
lighthouse we saw this coming in didn't
we look at this
Cape Disappointment is the only location
on the west coast with two lighthouses
within two miles of each other
okay this is the North Jetty right here
to the Columbia River and see all of
this land down here that did not exist
that was all filled in this huge amount
all this force down here here's a
picture taken in 1917 look at this
this is McKenzie head and this is all
ocean but if you look at McKenzie head
it's way over there all this has been
filled in that's crazy okay we have
about a two and a half mile trek down
this trail to the Cape Disappointment
lighthouse then from there I think is
about two or three miles back to the
boat so we're getting there just tired
the Cape Disappointment lighthouse was
built in 1856 and the North Head
lighthouse was built in 1898 because it
was not visible soon enough to provide
enough warning for the captain's
navigating the fierce currents of the
Columbia River
what is it Emma - lizard or a salamander
I really enjoyed the walk to the
lighthouses because of all of the
wildlife we encountered we saw birds
snakes and got chased by raccoon I even
got to hold a salamander while we were
exploring a tree cave
we heard some wrestling from inside we
got out of there really quick okay we're
about seven a little over seven miles
into this now we're now all the way back
down to the Columbia River entrance and
you can hear that big surf just rolling
in boy north of the jetty just looks
violent out there
I'm glad we're in a safe spot today the
views up here are sick tacular just
amazing view of the bar here you see
breaking waves coming two-thirds the way
across this thing okay keep pushing on
[Music]
okay we made it to Cape Disappointment
lighthouse with these amazing views of
the Columbia River now the long trek
back to LLL walk oh that's about two or
three miles I think from here let's get
in late fast well well we walked a lot
further than we thought we would I
thought it would be I don't know like
five or eight miles maybe
we walked 12 12.25 miles Jessie Emma
she's been last three miles she's been
dragging these past few days we have
done a ton of walking and our muscles
are letting us know yes they are but it
was so worth it because being stopping
in a wacko has allowed us to be able to
explore these beaches and these state
parks and the sights I mean there's so
much history in this area so we are so
happy that we were able to stop here but
it is time for us to go because we have
a lot of other grounds to cover we could
have stayed a couple more days but yeah
but there's a lot to see in the Pacific
Northwest before we head out so it's
time to cast off and head to our next
destination
