it is crunch time right now guys and I
haven't been this happy in a long time
because we got most of our parts in some
of them were still backorder but we're
not going to hold us back we're gonna
divert those to Till's brothers so then
he can bring them over to us when they
arrive in the meantime it looks like we
have a good weather weather can't even
say that a weather window opening in the
next few days and so we have been so
busy just trying to get everything ready
I have been doing laundry and doing
bedding up at the laundromat getting
everything ready there's nothing really
better than having fresh sheets and just
when you snuggle in when you're underway
it's just nice and just trying to get
everything ready I got all my provisions
on order and it should be arriving in
the next few hours so that's good in the
meantime I'm just kind of going through
everything and making sure that anything
we don't need we can unload it seems
like throughout all these travels so far
I've been able to unload just about 20
to 50 pounds at each port so that is
really good it just means that we don't
need as much as we thought we did I even
gave compass a bath which and a haircut
which he was not very happy about and
teal is down here right now it's doing
maintenance so we're gonna see how he's
doing
Tommy off guard
student I'll change I got the port
engine done already working on the
starboard engine it's not nice that we
have two engines that we have to do
maintenance on you know what's nice is
this new oil pump that first one we had
remember that little teeny brass one
took us forever he did that one this one
this one you just kind of pressurize the
tank and walk away
and it sucks it out it's
little one cuz stubby I know we only
have two point six quarts of oil on this
so it goes pretty quick
I can see Emma is helping she's
assisting or she's supervising yes good
job M so we got a lot to do so we're
gonna make it two days two days is it
two days two days two to three days yeah
it's two to three days I think we're
gonna probably leave yeah you're right
it might be two days few days Wow
let's get to work almost there I like to
change the oil no more than every
hundred hours I checked the log book and
it has been about 77 80 hours depending
on the engine so it's a little premature
but we're in a good place to do it so I
figured I might as well do it okay you
ready for this already we gotta hurry
cause the winds picking up I know it's
blowing to 10 to 15 now it's gonna be
blowing fifteen to thirty later we've
got a bowline in your Howard and click
to a safety a safety lanyard all your
tools are on lanyards even your cameras
on a lanyard so you should be good I'm
ready
okay project one
tada hell you're topping lift first
we're going up to do the topping lift
and then I'll bring you back down got it
I am now to the top of the mast and it's
a weird feeling I gotta say because I
haven't been up here in a long time
and the last time I was up here it was
dead calm so no wind right now I can
literally feel every shimmy of the masts
and lions in shrouds and everything else
because it's windy up here it's only
gonna get worse throughout the day so
hopefully we can get the halyard add the
topping lift replace so we can get or I
can get the heck down to her because as
fun as this is I would much rather be on
the boat then update you up here you see
the sheen the second one the empty one
that's what we need to feed it through
so if you drop that lead down to me drop
it real slow on the yellow lead so what
do you think you know best plans always
seem to go to crap because I had ordered
our groceries to be delivered and it
didn't come yesterday but what happens
it comes right now right in the middle
of me being up here so teal had to run
over and grab them I'm up here stuck
until he gets back
just hanging out
literally he's left me hanging I've been
up here for 20 minutes just hanging just
hanging out well you put the laser
crusher I'm freezing my butt off and I
can't do anything about it don't just
drop the whole thing kind of feed it
down to me okay Lynn's pulling the
topping lift up the tricky part is gonna
be feeding it through the top of the
mast and down the center of the mass
we'll see if this is even possible
hopefully it is how's the wind feel up
there hold this line right here and just
make sure the wind doesn't take off with
it
[Music]
[Music]
okay it's got to come through this slot
here so I have to pay attention when it
gets close to here
[Music]
okay I see it let go em yeah give me a
chopstick go give me a chopstick got it
[Music]
hang on this might work got it
[Music]
kind of her in so excited that was
unknown if that would work and it did so
let's get her down so it's real
interesting here in F storia every
morning the wind rushes down the
Columbia River out to sea then as
Central Oregon heats up
[Music]
today was 80 degrees in Portland and the
wind clocks around about two o'clock in
the afternoon and picks up here in
Astoria you know 15 20 25 sometimes 30
knots in the evening and this will all
be gone here in a few hours as soon as
that interior of Oregon cools off it's
kind of an interesting weather phenomena
but boy does get blustery here
[Music]
okay the wind died down enough this
morning that we could get the main
halyard in lens up there again we're
just raising it up so she can make the
connection then we'll have to feed it
through the mast
were you able to move it to the right
slot
I believe you just stole all your tools
and all lower you down
[Music]
[Music]
so here's the old halyard look at this
just it was ready to go so I'm glad we
took that down new halyard is sewn into
the old halyard now I have all my blocks
everything in line we'll pull this
through the mast and hopefully it makes
it through without snagging we'll see
[Music]
well we've been real busy the last
couple of days we've got our traveller
installed look at this
our main sheet is now rigged that was
fun to put in Lin got our topping lift
in and our halyard in yesterday and it's
slowly coming together there's a few
items we're still missing you know when
we put the topping lift in it came
through this slot here I had to put this
clutch right here on the mast to
accommodate that
and had to do some other temporary
things where we have a few blocks that
are on backorder our mass base blocks
they clip into these positions here we
have two that are on backorder one goes
here and one goes here one will handle
the topping lift and one handles our
mainsheet but to rig this up temporarily
I threw a soft shackle around the mass
base just to read guide this into the
right orientation so we could at least
get it strung up I think that'll do for
a while at least till we get those
blocks in hopefully they'll be in under
the next ten days but we should be well
down the coast by then so we'll have to
get creative fun having those forwarded
to us so we did have one other hiccup
while we were running all these lines
yesterday and it's to do with this rope
clutch right here this rope clutch I
don't know how old it is it came to the
boat it's been in storage I installed it
knowing the location that it needed to
be but now that we finally have the
leads going through there it's not
grabbing this rope clutch needs to be
rebuilt and they do have rebuild kits
for these it's about half the cost of a
brand new clutch so what I ended up
doing was ordering a new clutch last
night for Fisheries it should be here
this morning and I'm just gonna replace
this clutch I'm gonna keep this one and
order a rebuild kit for it that way I do
have a backup let me show you what
happened
look at this the lines are in there
locked in place
but they're not grabbing this need some
attention
I've been keeping Lynn real busy heaven
a busy gave me all the chores she's in
topping off all the batteries we try to
do this every three months how do they
look in there you're actually not bad
just a little good so you're almost done
keep at it
okay this project is done I think I
deserve wife of the year today is a big
day guys because we are just about ready
to reinstall our main that's right
our main is going back up today it's
been a really busy couple days for us I
feel good about what we've done in
re-rig and replacing lines and halyards
and topping lifts and everything else so
teal is right now down below getting the
main so then we can reinstall it Emma
her last day of school is tomorrow so
she is just having some downtime and
just decompressing in her stateroom
talking to her cousins on a video chat
so I know that I could be working and
helping teal right now but he worked me
like a dog the last couple of days so
I'm just gonna let him muscle it up
let's see I mean I hear all those
rattling but I really don't know what
he's doing
I got it you need help I just worry cuz
you might fall like last time that was a
freak incident
I got this I'll get up if you need me to
but really my body is sore that rigging
is hard work you just sit there and
relax my princess okay
so exciting
what do you think compass you ready to
go get him go get your daddy go get your
daddy
