good morning guys I am feeling pretty

refreshed after our sail from Astoria to

Newport god it feels so good to be out

sailing again we sailed the entire time

and we were able to see how basic

performed under sail power with our main

and our jib she did so well under light

winds under brisk winds I cannot wait to

see what else she has a store for us she

just performed beautifully so we are

very impressed that said it just feels

nice to be in a new port now because we

have two big celebrations coming up for

teal and Emmas so just nice to have a

change of scenery and explore so when we

pulled in we just kind of decompress and

just kind of took it easy so we were a

little surprised to get a knock on our

boat there was a local crab er that came

by who wanted to gift us with three

beautiful Dungeness crabs that he just

caught so I'm not gonna say no and we

already had dinner so I had to still

cook and show it because I was inspired

since we has something so fresh and

local that this morning I'm going to be

making us crab asparagus omelet with

avocado so it is going to be delicious

can we see oh let's make a toast first

to a wonderful passage a new port to

explore and a crab an awesome Cheers

now we eat now we eat

well now I know why they asked what our

draft was when we entered this marina

and assigned us this slip it's low tide

right now I don't know if you could see

this I would say that's about four feet

deep maybe five at the most looks like

most of the slips here on the end are

very shallow

but can't complain to the view okay guys

today is a big day

huge actually we officially now have a

teenager on board it's Emma's 13th

birthday god it just feels like just

yesterday she was just this little baby

and she was just so sweet she's still

sweet but she's a giant sweet girl now

so for her birthday

Sheila and I have been planning this for

a while and you know it's kind of hard

with cruising to have the traditional

birthdays and everything so we've been

creative and thinking about what to do

to surprise her she doesn't really care

for a lot of things and so one of the

things are I guess ideas that she really

wants and she's been pushing for this

for the past six months is she wants to

move into the guest stateroom because

it's bigger there's more space and quite

honestly she has outgrown her cabin so

we have been putting her off because we

wanted to surprise her with this so

we've been stacking this room up with

stuff just anything empty boxes yeah I

put just some random cables in here

we've made it look like it's impossible

for her to move it yeah every time she

asked what we're like it's that's our

storage unit that's where we put all of

our extra stuff that we don't have a

home for just yet so today I'm going to

clear all of this out and turn it into

her dream room I've been planning this

for about a month now so I've been

ordering things and trying to hide it

from her that's the nice thing about

being import as you can get an address

to have everything shipped to so I have

everything ready he will not see this

coming

because actually what's interesting is

Emma is right now over in our stateroom

she's been taking over our room because

it's a nice little open space for her

and it gives her a little bit of privacy

so she can do her video chats with her

cousin

and friends and it's kind of been her

hangout so she is gonna absolutely love

this yeah I'm clearing my tools out now

and I'm gonna grab Emma we're gonna go

for a walk while Lynn puts this all

together she is going to love it

okay guys have fun I'll see you in about

an hour or so baby compasses man he

doesn't get to go so a mint he'll have

left and I have one solid hour to get

all of this gone and set up for her

surprise so not that much time I got to

get to work

so this is it it took me a lot longer

than I thought

teal was able to buy me an extra half

hour to get this to order I'm gonna let

her put her finishing touches in here

but these are all her favorite colors

and all her favorite things so I am so

excited to show her I cannot wait till

they come back so I run from Astoria to

Newport was about 20 hours long and we

ran the engines all of about three hours

two hours to get out of the Columbia

River in the last hour just to get into

Newport here crossing the bar and I like

to have the engines running on the cross

the bar there's no way I'm just going by

sail alone bars could be a little

treacherous sometimes and we want to

make sure we're under full power but as

we were crossing the bar coming in we

had beautiful conditions but I was

getting a little bit of a squeal out of

one of the engines I couldn't tell which

one have figured once we get in here

I'll check it out and do some routine

maintenance and resolve that issue I'm

sitting on the starboard engine right

now just checked all the fluids

everything looks great belts look good I

don't see anywhere and I fired this

engine up again and no squeal

so the culprit is probably sitting over

on the port engine we'll check that out

next before we go over the port engine

let's talk about Emma a second that girl

I am so proud of her she is growing up

to be quite the young lady you know

we've asked her over and over what did

she want for a birthday what would make

her happy and she really couldn't come

up with anything she said she is happy

and that she has everything she needs so

when we gave her that stateroom as part

of her gift she really enjoyed it I mean

that was the perfect gift for her and

actually she's over there right now with

Lynn putting the final touches and disc

in her you know a little personality

that makes her more comfortable and I

need to get over there anyway to check

out that engine you know we plan on

scooting down to Coos Bay here in the

next day or two so I want to make sure

everything's in tip-top shape so let's

go check up on the girls and I'll get

that engine I look over

let's go see what they're up to I hear a

lot of giggling over here they must be

having fun ladies nice and settled all

her friends are here yep

I love this room it's amazing I think

you guys can leave now whenever you want

whenever you want I think that's a hint

okay have fun with your new stay room

okay we're over in Emma's new stateroom

and yeah right off the bat look at that

I've seen a little belt that's been

disintegrating let's check this out okay

I check the logbook and this is a newer

belt only about 40 hours on this belt

this one has about a hundred hours on it

and it's a lot looser and it looks like

it's quite worn away I think I need to

replace that let's fire up this engine

and see if that's the culprit well that

little test fire I couldn't get it to

squeal but with all of these shavings

sitting down here I'm gonna feel much

more comfortable replacing this belt now

rather than waiting for it to break it's

an easy fix

I just have to take this cover off

loosen the alternator remove the belt

loosen the water pump slip a new belt on

tighten everything back up then get it

back together probably a half-hour job

at the most

but it's gotta be done okay looks like I

have plenty of spare parts on hand let's

take this new belt and install it and

just like that it's replaced you know

the old belt doesn't look like it's in

bad shape there's a little bit of wear

on here I am glad I did replace it

because it was a bit loose and it

doesn't take that much time I feel good

about running this engine for another

hundred hours and I'll keep this old

belt for a backup even though I have a

few other spares really doesn't matter

no I think you should do the big one

first oh right on

yes a new reel this is a new place and

it's Father's Day so we're gonna go

check out the beach and exploring Teal'c

Obon is the most handsome talented best

dad in the whole world there is nothing

he can't do everything he does is

absolutely perfect I am the luckiest kid

around this was not at all written by my

dad these are all my words

actually I do have an awesome dad he's

the best and I'm a pretty lucky kid

there isn't anything he can't do

my mom and I got him a new real online

for Father's Day so we can do some

serious sea fishing I'm pretty sure he

loves his gift almost as much as I do

down to Goose Bay should be pretty
