while my mom finds a welder i help my

dad prepare the hardtop for the solar

panel installation

i then work with my mom on our new stack

pack this project is huge

literally so it definitely takes two

people

i dragged the crew off the boat on a

field trip to the rosie the riveter

museum

it's nice supplementing my parents

education with a bit of world war

ii history i'm feeling pretty satisfied

with myself

because tl gave me the assignment last

week to find

us a welder since he struck out and not

only did i find one but

fred was able to pull through and get

the framework done

in two days he is up there right now

delivering it so teal

is going to bring it down here it's so

funny because teal

it's a it's a long-standing joke for us

because teal has the absolute

worst luck when it comes to finding us

anybody to do anything because he just

he strikes out on the phone

it doesn't matter who it is that he's

trying to call he never gets through and

as soon as it's my turn it's like

it just happened hey in my defense

actually she's right so

i'm excited teal's happy i'm sure

and that's just one more project done

how does it look perfect

are you happy with it i'm happy it's the

right dimensions the right material

well i hope it fits on the top oh it

should

so we've lifted the framework up into

its new home

the idea is to limit the amount of times

i have to drill through

the new hard top so i'm gonna reuse some

of these bolts

that are located on these support posts

so i'm gonna mark these out

put a spacer on there and put longer

bolts on to help secure this down okay

pack it up

especially the room is arriving right

now it's here yeah

way more fun than this thing

our battle form batteries have arrived

everything that we need for this install

is here which means our batteries our

inverter charger our monitor

and i also got a notification for our

solar panels

this is giving me so much anxiety

and i'm excited at the same time look at

this teal is just stacking up

our hall full of boxes do you know how

many more boxes are coming

i know look at this this is just

craziness

this is not normal for us and i feel

like we're

we're closing emma in in her room

she's not gonna know what hit her make

sure that door opens

i know oh my gosh

this just means that we are in a mad

dash to get all of this done

because we have a lot more to unload so

these are going to be

installed but believe it or not we're

lightening the load as well

right yes definitely lightening the load

i'm i'm in the corner i'm stuck in the

corner

this is just madness a few more for

today

just madness i can't handle this yeah

we still have one more hole we could

fill nope

i don't think so no we got to get these

things done

before we start any more projects

because this is just too much

my brain can't handle it

okay it's like an overload so what are

let's go what do we start with compass

doesn't know what's wrong

treats teal like a chew toy

okay i've laid everything out there's

actually seven holes i need to drill

in this frame and i laid it out so of

the seven

only two of them are going to show i was

able to hide them inside the lights off

it

and on the support posts on the back

let's get these drilled out

i'm excited to get this installed

okay i've drilled out all the holes only

seven of them

and you know that's one big reason i

like

building a frame is you think about it

if there's there's six panels going in

here i would have needed

minimum of four supports on each panel

that'd be 24 holes that i have to drill

through the new hard top

this way i'm able to hide the majority

of the fasteners there's only two

exposed fasteners so it's going to be a

nice clean install

it gives it a little protection as well

around the perimeter in case a line

drags across there

and it doesn't weigh much huh put a

scale out here we're going to wait here

it in a second

we'll check out how much it really does

weigh

19.8 pounds

the wind here has been kicking my butt

it's been way too windy to paint but in

order for me to get this new solar array

down

i have to get a few uh top coat layers

down

so i'm getting up early drying the dew

off

try to get this as dry as possible and

uh

get some paint down before that wind

picks up

yesterday it was blowing 30 all day

expected to be heavier today so i got a

little window

i gotta get busy

got the paint down

nicely

okay so the next day

i let the paint cure all day long

got up this morning dried the decks

scuffed sanded

the entire hard top here and we're

putting on a second top coat

wind is much lighter today

so i'll be able to get a nice finish on

this

a little bit trickier to see where i'm

painting now because i'm going white

on top of white so i just gotta keep

track of where i've rolled out

because i'll be kneeling in it real

quick

well here it is i've got another coat

down

not even nine o'clock in the morning yet

sun's

gonna be out all day so this will

bake nicely everything went down pretty

good

the only thing i'm unhappy with is all

my little friends that are out here

a couple bugs are trying to wander

across this freshly painted surface

well what do you do can't pick them off

now

just let it go

this is progress once teal starts

painting

it gets addictive to him and then he

starts looking at other projects that he

can paint

i am not complaining but this is so

awesome look how white our cockpit is

getting

teal it's looking nice and shiny

yes it is

where are you did you hit your head

i was just saying how you get kind of a

hair up your butt

and start painting everything you know

you're going to this

i'm not complaining definitely not but

it's just funny

i have the paint out the rollers out

cockpit needs

paint we've got a couple coats on the

hard top already

winds not blowing too bad so it's

because you're hiding out in the cockpit

look at the difference i know it looks

so good okay

i gotta get going keep moving

looking good

well i've been working on our lazy jack

system i think everything's done

here's the piece that goes in through

the spreader

i've got to put a block on here run this

lead through

and i've got nice little loops at the

end to accept

the next component with blocks on the

end of that to handle these

this goes off to another block ties off

to

a cleat times two all the pieces are

here now it's just a matter of

going up the mast and making the

connections

you ready teal this is gonna be a piece

of cake i swear you overthink things i

got this

okay so if i throw all these in a bag

and send it up with you up the match you

got it

sure it's not that bad

come on say it with a straight face no

if it doesn't work we'll just fix it

it'll work

let's get you geared up and up the mast

calculations all the bolts the only ones

that are showing

are just on the ends and the other two

inside the soffit as well as hitting

our back post one problem

his calculation put the bolt right about

here

and we don't have a wrench that will

go into here how is that a problem

did the other one going smooth the other

one went in kind of smooth

but this is not easy and

what happens if we have to take it off

we'll make the tool again
