previously on onboard lifestyle we plan

a stop in santa barbara to cross off a

project from our growing to-do list

we more than double our solar output by

installing our second array on our new

hardtop

the install goes smooth as planned

with the exception of lens wire harness

i am officially now frustrated

which turned out

perfect the rest of the installation is

buttoned up and basic is now decked out

with 1.1 kilowatts of solar

that will definitely give us that added

boost to start pushing our lithium bank

with more confidence

i felt that

so we left the marina this morning and

it's no complaints it was a nice marina

santa barbara is a beautiful area uh the

weather's

foggy in the morning and beautiful in

the afternoons

got the hustle and bustle inside the

marina the boats coming in and out and

the paddle boarders and kayakers it's

still fun to watch

but it was nice to to leave wasn't it it

is and i think this is a it's becoming a

running routine or a standard for us to

head out of the arena and anchor next to

the marina it took us all of 15-20

minutes to get out here

we just uh went right around stearns

wharf and we're out in the general

anchorage with probably 50 or 60 other

boats

and we're probably tucked in closest to

the beach just because i like to be

anchored in you know 15 to 20 feet of

water makes me feel comfortable get a

good nice scope on your your anchor

chain that way for sure without putting

out too much

yeah i would much prefer to have less

votes around us though teal and emma

always make fun of me saying i'm very

selfish because i really do like

an empty anchorage so that we have

you know the whole place to ourselves

i think it's because i'm claustrophobic

so i don't know why that's my reasoning

i kind of like pulling into an anchorage

and have another boat or two in there

you know it makes you feel like she was

fine but i just not 50 or six something

about you know it's just kind of i feel

crowded

but it's just nice to just kind of

decompress um and get a grip of things

before we head out to the next um

the next stop yeah and we're uh we're

planning that here we'll be leaving here

tomorrow it looks like yeah

but you can't complain about this view

blue waters

a little chilly today it is a little

cold but look at that background yeah

it's just there's something about seeing

palm trees it just makes me happy

so it was nice to have a temporary

address while we were in the marina

it's so weird because for the past two

years since we left seattle

we've it's it's such a nomadic light one

of the great things about being here in

the yard right now is that our friends

are all taking turns bringing mail to us

so we got mail service today

okay i just got a notification

from fedex

that our

uh rollers for our kiwi prop came in

here it is

looks like i looks like i got a good

project

okay fedex came through what was your

name my name is tom i'm glad we could be

of service okay great time we need us

right guys

i got a notification from the marina

that our package came in well my package

this is something that i've been wanting

for a long time i could just for you

guys i'm sorry we need parts we're about

to head out so we are just getting some

parts now and uh looks like we're gonna

be heading out tomorrow and i can't tell

you how many times when i place an order

the billing and the shipping address

changes constantly the billing doesn't

change ever but the shipping address

changes weekly

if not

you know

it's just been crazy and trying to um

coordinate all that stuff is uh it's not

easy but it's doable i mean we've been

doing it now for two years

everything ran smooth as silk right here

didn't it really

almost

everything except for one

so santa barbara is actually kind of

nice yeah number one we get to stop and

uh

do some projects

and number two we get emma's school

books i know i'm so excited i've been

really looking forward to getting them

so she's a weird kid

i like school

no i

i'm just saying it's not typical for

teenagers to uh be excited for the new

school year but emma is excited to get

her curriculum

and get going on her uh furthering her

education it's gonna be great

so i don't know why we brought a cart

thinking it was like last year but this

is a lot bigger this is like 19 pounds

but it's good

so we just have to bring the car back

anyway so go ahead and use it

this is a big day for us because we got

abba's

news curriculum for the next school year

and it's uh it's a little intimidating

this is something that uh we have been

stressing over for the past year emma

has been homeschooled for the past three

years but she has been going through

washington state school district we're

going through calvert calvert is a

wonderful wonderful

program with one exception it is

strictly online and that is going to be

a big issue for us

once we

sail into mexico i think that we have

our work cut out for us emma uh is

excited you can see

um obviously we will always supplement

her her education with

the places that we are going to history

is a huge thing for her

big or small it doesn't matter where we

go into she wants to learn the history

of it so

yay one more thing down before we head

out of the country so i'm excited i am

too this is awesome i've never known a

kid who is so excited for schoolwork

look at all these books

so excited

it's gonna be great

i started school about a week and a half

ago and i have really enjoyed the

studies this curriculum this new

curriculum is great i've really enjoyed

it and

i mean check out my classroom

like this this backdrop is super cool i

have really enjoyed homeschooling and

not only that who do you know

that gets to see like dolphins while

they're studying it's crazy

it's amazing how much sea life i get to

see each day in just the last month

there have been a few encounters that

really stand out for me the otters in

san luis obispo bay were sure cute

look at the baby right there

i am never gonna get tired of looking at

this

they are just the absolute cutest

they look like little ewoks

but the mega pot of dolphins that came

up to us to check us out on our passage

from avila to coho bay was impressive

on that same leg a young humpback whale

swam alongside us

did you get that yeah

right there i got that

it seems like we get to see seals or sea

lands almost every day but the octopus

we saw under the dock in santa barbara

was pretty cool

everything ran smooth as silk right here

didn't it really

almost

everything except for one

the first thing that we wanted to get

accomplished while we were in santa

barbara was to install our radar now i

know a lot of you guys have asked why we

don't have radar yet and the honest

truth is is we like to budget our big

purchases and this was a big purchase so

we kind of just pushed it off and uh and

didn't

get it done until this last passage from

avila to the coho anchorage we were

socked in 100 percent fog and marine

layer and it was very disconcerting so

teal and i made the decision that once

we got to santa barbara we were going to

get that purchase

done

and i scoured the net i scoured our

usual and nobody had it but westmarine

had it so the first thing i did was head

over to the store to place the order

that's when everything went wrong

from the beginning it seemed like

it was destined to fail because from the

moment that we walked into the west

marine store here in santa barbara

they assured me that it would take three

to five business days not a problem i

was so excited

well that didn't happen

which ended up turning into over two

weeks

and you know santa barbara marina is

great but it's not cheap

i spoke to

five different customer service

representatives multiple times i talked

to the store manager here in santa

barbara i talked to the district manager

and i think it didn't matter how many

assurances they just didn't give me the

answers that i was looking for which is

where is it

it was so frustrating and it was so

stressful that we got out of here on the

15th day we had charged double on that

15 day and literally the the radar came

to us within

half an hour before we had to check out

so the day has finally come

and

we have finally gotten our radar so is

this uh

make you feel a little better about it

no it doesn't you know why because we

stayed an extra week and after two weeks

in this marina they charge you double so

we're charged an extra day staying here

and we're charged double way to

add salt to my wounds

i mean seriously this is unbelievable

completely unacceptable

at least

at least we have the product now

we have our radar so

i guess that's the silver lining i'm

sorry guys i am just so mad about this

it's just

it's it's beyond it's not just a little

hiccup it was a huge hit take a deep

breath

everything everything's good now trying

i'm trying really hard to be

okay about this and i guess i am i will

be i feel i will be okay

now that we have our radar i'm okay you

are you're okay

so west maureen if you're listening i

hope you take a little bit of advice

your pricing is higher than most channel

race so because of that

you should pride yourself on excellent

customer service in order to justify

your high prices

all right rant is over where's my wife

on the day we were supposed to leave the

marina there was one thing we did not

anticipate

so a little change of plans uh we were

supposed to or we are supposed to leave

today unfortunately uh

little compass is not feeling good

we got a sick puppy and so you know at

first we thought it was just he had

upset stomach um and he'd get over it

but we're going on day three now or day

four day four

so

we're going to take him in to

a vet clinic there's a

emergency one here about a mile away

so

hopefully

it's just a little stomach bug and he'll

be okay but the guy looks old we gotta

play because we're heading out of here

compass

how do you feel buddy

we'll get you all set up you'll be fine

so

ready to roll let's go yep here we go

here we go we're gonna try to grab an

uber

but i'm not sure if they're going to

accept bringing a dog on board

we'll find out we'll find out if not

we'll just walk it's only a mile and

what

change no just a mile okay well let's

try to lock it first see how far it

feels

it's the worst feeling when you have a

sick puppy

he's just not feeling it right now

he's our mascot you guys

he keeps this uh

this cruelly checked

that's for sure

and so in a young dog that suddenly gets

diarrhea um

with mucus or blood or frequent attempts

um

that's a sign of colitis or inflammation

of the colon and so that's what makes me

think that this is

a non-specific inflammation of his

stomach and intestines and that

thankfully they almost always respond

great to metronidazole we're out at this

anchorage for an extra day while we wait

for his test results to come back

i swear when it rains it pours

okay you probably don't want to watch

want to talk about what happened

well

yesterday

way to blame it on me yeah and the

toilet seized

i mean it absolutely just seized so

i got up this morning replaced every

component on that toilet new

joker valves new flappers new handles

new o-rings everything's replaced up

there we test it it's still seized

so that means i have to come down the

line

next thing is the y valve

i'm tearing that apart right now

i have all my spares spare kit right

here

a spare y valve if i need it

i'm hoping i don't have to do that

because that is a tough one to get into

hopefully it's something

easy definitely fixed

okay i love how you're just free handing

everything well

don't worry little rubber gloves are

just gonna fall off

and tear up

i'm gonna sanitize the heck out of

everything including me yeah

we've petrified poop

just

the head was just sock full of calcium

this y valve i just chipped it all out

of here

but i still can't

flush even the y valve out nothing's

coming through that leads me to the

vented loop that's next i'll have to

chip that out

i have a feeling i'm gonna have to

replace all these hoses the vented loop

all the way up through there

and uh then put this all back together

before it's gonna be able to flush

well we have all the parts

i know

it's just it's just how

it's just a gross project i know i'm so

sorry i can help but yeah get in here

you want me to no way this is i'll just

put on a mask

you know what

i'm getting there

i would think that uh

i think i'm gonna try to run a snake up

here to see if i could feel anything in

the vented boot before i tear it apart

do we have one a snake yeah no i'll

build one

give me one of your co-hangers no

no i don't have any of those wire ones

back at it i'm going to go make a snake

okay don't touch too many things

i have to sanitize it here we go how's

that that's not enough

just try to contain what you're touching

so then i can go back afterwards and

clean everything up okay deal

it's probably the most expensive snake i

could well it's a used wire you were

going to keep that just as a just in

case

now i have a purpose

i've traced it down the clog is right

i tried to snake it from both sides it's

not happening

so i was trying to avoid taking the

vented loop off but

it's just an awkward thing to get to and

it's a tight tight fitting right here

i don't know if it's gonna go

i'm gonna heat it up with a heat gun i

think

that's what i'll do oh

we'll cook it

did the little rebuild kit on our

y valve

put all new o-rings and seals in it

lubed it up

you said it wasn't feeling right the

other i mean what two weeks ago that's

why there was so much calcium in there

it was just crunchy

crunchy

nobody likes a crunchy head what are you

feeding us

what are you eating

yeah i think i am

i'm done

it's all fixed

are we positive that there's not going

to be any more

surprises no more surprises i've

replaced everything it should be running

smooth actually pick up the counter

there

why don't you uh give it a test

door and why don't you give this thing a

proper workout so what you're saying is
