of basic enjoys the amenities of a new

ventura marina

i dove on the sail drives to inspect

what was causing a slight vibration and

clean things up a bit

our plan to sail to malibu's paradise

cove was interrupted by the u.s navy uh

we've got a

missile launch taking place uh

approximately 10 30. looks like they're

still requesting

for you to hold station here we will

hold station here our updated shot time

is 10 45. we will hold station here

until 11 30 now we will hold station

here

to transit through the area now and lynn

prepares a wonderful meal underway that

the crew enjoys at our new destination

anchorage

whoa

i made it extra hot

i love it oh my god

we are getting ready to head out of here

paradise co was

it was a nice anchorage a little roly

but

you can't beat the views of these

gorgeous multi-million dollar homes

but we are heading over to marina del

rey

we're actually about a couple weeks out

from heading into mexico

so we're taking advantage of being in

this area i have a lot of family here so

my sister wants to grab emma to have

some special auntie niece time so we're

heading there so she can pick her up and

teal and are going to take advantage of

that opportunity to work on some big

projects we got a big one

coming for you guys and uh yeah

it'll be about a 17 mile run today and

we're hoping for some winds to uh sail

on in to uh to the harbor

god it just feels nice to be

uh in southern california and uh

hopefully this uh overcast will clear up

and we'll get some blue skies

okay time to go

we just had a little bit of excitement

not in a good way

we were just obviously monitoring

channel 16

and we're getting about we're about a

mile and a half out of the entrance to

delray and

there was a distress call a mayday a

fisherman yeah

a fisherman found

a woman that had been in the water for

12 hours

and he got her aboard and they're trying

to coordinate with uh baywatch

coast guard and get her some attention

because she was

seriously

extreme hypothermia yeah it was sounded

like she was in bad condition

and the first thing that the coast guard

asked was was she wearing a life

preserver which was a negative and you

know it's funny people sometimes make

fun of us because we do wear our life

jackets especially along these coastal

waters

but the reality of it is is it doesn't

take much to wear a life jacket but

imagine not having it and

falling overboard

at night or anything these waters are

not warm but i mean somehow she was able

to

survive 12 hours but this is a little

bit warmer than it was for us up north

yeah still i wouldn't want to be in this

water i was in the water what two days

ago for

10 minutes i was chilly i just couldn't

imagine that poor girl thank god that

fisherman found her i just

imagine falling in overnight and

nobody knows where you're at

it's just scary it is

they're not that uncomfortable you know

fashionable that's right we look good

so we're your pfd people yes

very important i know it was emotional

to go and listen to that it really was

it's official

emma jumped ship

we lost her

no in all seriousness my sister came to

pick emma up for uh for a little visit

okay

have fun i will be good i will don't

miss us

don't miss us too much

it has actually been over

two years now yeah since emma has been

off the boat without us and this is

actually a good thing for her because

throughout this uh this trip so far

it's been a little lonely for her you

know there's not a lot of kids around as

we're traveling and we know that there's

going to be more as we get into warmer

climates but you know she needs some

down time without us and this is a great

opportunity for her to visit with family

and her and spend time with her cousins

yeah i think it's a

healthy move for her yeah in the

meantime

yes we have a lot of stuff to do too so

we're gonna do

we're gonna take advantage of this time

without emma to get some major work done

so let's talk about the elephant in the

room i know what you're thinking

it's old it's tired

it's weathered

it's out of shape and it's definitely

past its prime

i'm not actually talking about teal i'm

talking about our main sale it's time

for us to upgrade to a newer better

and

made for a sale so time to get rid of

the old

and

bring in the new

are you sorry yet nope not yet i will be

oh my gosh look at this new sail

honey this is the second prettiest thing

i saw all day

it's actually the prettiest thing i've

seen all day thanks

okay first of all

everything looks like it's gonna line

right up

and my

i am so excited about this look at

our old sail under here

way back there we have

so

much more roach to this new main

hey hey get

get off of there

get off of there do not

do not put footprints on this

okay next thing we have to do

is

change out all the hardware on the car

to match up to our tides track then

we'll reflake this

and get it back on the boat

that was

actually too easy

everything just lined right up all the

hardware just snapped right in place i'm

it took us what five minutes i know

everything we talked about

they far surpassed

our expectations yeah it looks like

i'm excited to get this thing up it

looks like they've nailed everything oh

you know we've moved the boom a little

bit and they have accommodated for that

off of our measurements god the sale is

going to be amazing i know what you're

thinking now though okay i'm going to go

get a rag to wipe the little bits of i

got a little i got a little turtle yes

i'm going to go wipe it before we flake

this of course i am

beautiful though it is let's do it let's

go

i know i'm smiling a lot

because today is a it's a big day for us

today we officially become a big boy

boat

real sales with real power this is gonna

be

this is gonna be fun

help me get this laid out

so let's just take a moment now to talk

about our new mainsail it

has been a long journey to get this

mainsail it all started about two years

ago actually

when we got our head sail our jib and we

went with uh precision sails

and i am so glad we did

this is a big day

ready help me

there we go our brand new jib

let's do this

so the process for us

was a bit different i think well it

seemed different because

basic is a custom boat it's not like uh

we could just pull yeah pull up the the

main cell specs out of you know some

manual and give it to them we had to uh

kind of use their worksheets and take

measurements but it was a pretty simple

process i was actually impressed how

easy it was it was almost too easy but

you know i mean it worked out so well it

did oh we spent all of uh 20 minutes in

an afternoon just taking new

measurements you know we had moved this

hard top the boom was new everything was

kind of unique to us but we just relayed

that information uh to precision and

they had some questions and we kind of

dialed in what we needed and what type

of sale we needed and the whole process

was

you know i thought i'd be intimidated

but it was very comfortable

after a lot of back and forth and we

were dealing with jeremy the cell maker

jeremy and marketing ron in sales we

pinpointed and everything was good to go

into production the hardest part

throughout this entire process was

logistics finding out where we were

going to be at so then they can ship it

to us once production was finalized and

that is the main reason why we went into

santa barbara so that we can have a

place to have it shipped to

they actually

landed our new sale

in santa barbara the day before we got

there that was just perfect

oh this is so nice right behind you

backing up

we just arrived here and we already have

our first set of uh

deliveries

i wonder what's in the box

oh let's go back and check it out who

doesn't love an unboxing right

i don't know if you remember back when

we put our head sail on and i said these

are our guys

it's just we feel really strongly that

these are our guys these are our sail

makers and we are so happy about that

well

two years later they're still our guys

and we are so happy to be working with

them

next step

putting the battens together

yes with the new main comes new battens

that's right it's kind of a cool concept

here these are uh

16 millimeter yeah 16 millimeter battens

i think these are a little bit smaller

14 millimeter but they have mechanical

fasteners that way they can ship these

you know

pretty economically without uh having a

20 foot well not 20 foot 15 foot box

coming at us

so it's just a matter of sorting through

this and putting it together it's going

pretty smooth so far actually just be

careful because you know they are

fiberglass rods

all right

what am i gonna do i'll

poke my eye out

well you might get a sliver and then

you'll be all whiny about if i don't get

a sliver i'll be disappointed

don't say i didn't warn you

all right so the batons are done and it

is time now to

install them i'm so excited to get our

new main up time to uh hoist this bad

boy

lynn's making the connection to the

outhaul right now let me do it

don't drop it oh watch it don't let that

pin fall

it's not coming out oh my god you sure

we've now put three of our battens in

and the wind is starting to pick up so

i'm kind of thinking we gotta wait a

couple hours let the wind die down and

put the last few in

but man she looks good

yeah she does

i blame the captain

huge day big project i'm a little tired

and sore i know can we just take it easy

gonna test this new sail

we're sailing to catalina island that's

gonna be so nice right here baby
