On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we leave Chacala...and head towards Banderas Bay only for Emma to fall ill. Not know the severity of her condition, we install our isolation quarantine protocol onboard to ensure the rest of the crew does not get whatever she has. Come back next week to see as we make a decision on where to go in light of this turn of events. See you then!

0:30
on our last episode of onboard lifestyle
0:33
basic left by ia mantichin and traveled
0:36
south to bahia chacala
0:39
we put out bao and stern anchors to keep
0:41
us secure in this tight picturesque
0:44
anchorage
0:45
the crew takes a paddleboard tumble on
0:47
the beach
0:48
everything kind of went to crap okay
0:50
come on rice
0:52
do your magic we enjoy the sights and
0:55
sounds of chikala
1:02
[Music]
1:04
lynn makes another memorable meal this
1:07
is pretty luxurious and we even make a
1:10
few new friends
1:15
that gets you caught up so we'll start
1:17
our story there
1:20
[Music]
1:38
we're heading out this morning to
1:39
another anchorage and this is um it's
1:43
been a great place
1:44
with a couple exceptions but you know
1:46
that's life um and teal is just picking
1:49
up our stern anchor and get us uh kind
1:54
of ready to head on out
1:56
[Music]
2:13
so
2:16
[Music]
2:56
i can almost hear you thinking
2:59
well i'm just listening
3:02
you can hear the chain dragging over a
3:04
rock
3:06
i don't know if this is like a
3:07
coral
3:10
like a shale yeah something
3:15
i need to watch it
3:17
i'm not
3:19
entirely comfortable yet on this
3:22
well the good news is is uh it's early
3:24
enough that we can oh yeah re-anchor and
3:27
find a better spot we've got two miles
3:30
of water before we drag anywhere yeah
3:33
i'll put an anchor watch and
3:36
be careful
3:39
while we're here in hatimba there's a
3:40
few things that we want to get
3:42
accomplished number one being that our
3:44
bottom needs to be scrubbed teal is down
3:47
below right now just kind of checking it
3:48
out it's been about two weeks since we
3:51
last scrubbed and that was in mazatlan
3:53
so we want to just make sure that
3:55
there's no extra growth or anything on
3:59
on our bottom
4:01
the bottom paint works great but you
4:03
know barnacles are going to grow on it
4:05
so we want to make sure that nothing is
4:07
hindering our
4:09
transducer or our cell drives or
4:11
anything typically emma is right there
4:14
with teal uh helping to scrub
4:17
but for whatever reason she's just not
4:19
feeling up to it i'm really tired
4:22
which is really weird so we're just
4:24
gonna let her hang out in the meantime
4:27
teal's going to be down there for
4:28
probably about an hour and a half to two
4:30
hours that's how long it takes for him
4:32
to
4:33
do the scrubbing
4:42
and i'll just be on standby making sure
4:45
that if he needs something i'm ready for
4:47
him
4:55
we had some uh
4:57
reports from some of our friends saying
4:59
that uh better get your bottom scrub
5:01
before you get into the cruise because
5:03
the the water clarity is a
5:06
pretty sketch and even here
5:09
the water's a little murky but it'll
5:11
probably a lot better than the cruise
5:25
teal's doing the
5:26
last scrub before we head into bandera's
5:29
bay tomorrow
5:32
and came up with an injury
5:35
well look at me i'm getting up close
5:36
look at this stuff
5:38
well you're covered in shrimp i don't
5:40
know what these little things shrimp
5:42
little baby creasy creatures and there
5:44
was a frenzy of little fish around me
5:46
and they were just eating the shrimp as
5:47
i was knocking them off the boat and
5:48
they one fish grabbed my finger another
5:50
one grab my thumb it looks like
6:12
so
6:21
well you taste yummy
6:23
they they're not after me they're after
6:24
the shrimp i think
6:28
sharp little teeth on those guys though
6:38
okay how's the bottom look it looks good
6:40
actually
6:41
i mean a few little barnacles right at
6:43
the bottom edge right
6:46
but just a seize scum is all i'm seeing
6:48
it's been
6:49
almost a year
6:50
yeah
6:53
a little bit of scum and slime right
6:55
yeah a couple barnacles i mean nothing
6:57
major though
7:00
i mean we're getting in warmer warmer
7:01
waters i'm expecting this stuff to grow
7:03
faster and it's i mean we're staying
7:04
caught up on it water today is 80
7:07
degrees i know we jump in the water
7:09
once a week
7:11
i think this uh bottom paint will last a
7:13
while longer i know but um
7:16
bender's bay is not known for clear
7:18
waters
7:20
i know that's why i'm doing it today
7:28
here we are
7:29
anchored at
7:30
ensenada
7:32
altembra
7:34
the
7:36
ponga traffic has just died down this
7:38
whole beach was lit up all day with
7:41
hundreds of people but it's just calming
7:43
down to a nice night
7:44
this anchorage we're in 25 feet of water
7:47
it's a sandy bottom with a little bit of
7:49
coral
7:52
water is clear 80 degrees
7:56
and i wouldn't stay here on any
7:58
inclement weather
7:59
it is not much protection it would kind
8:02
of just wrap around this island but
8:04
tonight it's very mild
8:06
and we've been here uh in the past and
8:09
we haven't had this opportunity to
8:11
anchor here and i'm glad we did today
8:12
it's kind of a neat location
8:15
we're heading out this way tomorrow
8:19
punta uh dimita will be about 31 miles
8:22
uh around the point over there
8:25
and it'll be a good day
8:27
we'll try to catch that offshore breeze
8:29
in the morning sail downwind and then uh
8:32
catch a little bit of that
8:33
northwesterlies
8:35
and try to hook it around that point
8:38
we'll see how it goes it's supposed to
8:39
be light
8:40
yeah
8:41
you know five to ten all day but we'll
8:43
do our best to to push our way through
8:46
but for now let's just kind of enjoy the
8:49
scenery
8:51
just a new place to take it all in
8:57
well
9:00
it was good to
9:01
see a new anchorage but it's just been
9:02
kind of an odd night it has been really
9:04
weird
9:06
i know i mean it's a nice anchorage
9:08
again but um
9:10
emma was just acting a little off and
9:13
she didn't even have dinner today
9:15
she barely touched her dinner
9:17
i know it was such a nice dinner too
9:25
she went to bed early what is it seven
9:27
o'clock
9:28
it's not even seven yet and she's
9:30
already in bed so chances are she's uh
9:34
coming down with a little cold
9:36
oh well we're heading into punta demina
9:39
tomorrow
9:40
so let's just take it easy and
9:43
relax a little cheers
9:45
altimbra
9:47
altemba
9:50
i'll learn it one day i'm just glad that
9:52
the music kind of
9:54
died off and everyone's back at home
9:57
hopefully i know
9:59
we have enough lights out that the
10:01
pongas aren't going to hit us i think
10:03
they're definitely
10:06
okay yeah i'm just uh i'm a little
10:08
worried about her me too
10:15
okay
10:18
left the anchorage just as soon as the
10:20
sun came up
10:22
not a big day but we want to get there
10:24
to decent hours 32 miles or so
10:30
light light winds it's calling for we're
10:32
gonna get a little offshore breeze in
10:34
the morning and then it dies off
10:36
for about three four hours and then we
10:38
should get a little bit of a northwest
10:39
maybe
10:41
five to ten so
10:43
it's not a big wind day
10:45
so we'll
10:46
do what we can at the sale
10:50
at least we can enjoy this beautiful
10:56
[Music]
10:59
in this scenery
11:00
forever so i can hold you in my
11:04
arm
11:05
i will carry you on my shoulders as long
11:10
as i'm able to get the monster
11:14
[Music]
11:22
is
11:25
[Music]
11:31
[Music]
11:38
when entering banderas bay from the
11:39
north you must swing wide around punta
11:42
dimita to avoid a submerged rocky patch
11:44
that lies half to three-quarter miles
11:47
offshore
11:49
our passage today had a bit of
11:50
everything
11:51
a light offshore breeze
11:53
stagnant air
11:55
but as we approach the point the winds
11:57
piped up from the northwest and gave us
12:00
that perfect spirited sail the last 10
12:02
nautical miles right into the punta meta
12:06
anchorage
12:16
so
12:35
we set the hook about 200 yards from the
12:37
beach with about two dozen other
12:39
cruisers
12:40
emma's condition was now deteriorating
12:43
and she is now running a fever
12:46
basic's protocol is to isolate and
12:49
quarantine any sick crew member to
12:51
mitigate the illness spreading to others
12:54
regardless if it's a common cold or
12:57
anything worse
13:04
so we have a little situation nothing to
13:07
be too concerned about
13:09
but uh we had a great sale yesterday
13:12
from hatimba to punta demida it was
13:15
really nice and our plan is to sail into
13:18
a cruise later today
13:20
and
13:21
at that point emma and i was going to
13:23
book our tickets to head back to the
13:25
states i have to go see my parents and
13:27
family
13:29
and we have been extra careful because
13:32
with new regulations right now
13:34
you have to take a covet test 24 hours
13:37
prior to flying into the u.s and we
13:39
really thought we were in the clear
13:40
we've been very careful
13:42
and
13:43
you know we were all set we're ready
13:45
well last night after we got here emma
13:49
started feeling
13:51
a little scratchy throat and
13:53
fever
13:55
so
13:57
we are
13:58
being cautious
14:00
and we're gonna head in and get a rapid
14:03
test
14:04
taken for her
14:06
hopefully it's nothing
14:08
our lifestyle is pretty much i mean we
14:11
we do self isolate and we're pretty much
14:13
quarantined on board anyway yeah we're
14:15
just by our lifestyle but you know going
14:18
into town and visiting with other people
14:21
you just
14:22
there's no foolproof way aside from just
14:25
not being around people at all
14:27
so i'm making her little chicken noodle
14:30
soup she's over in the isolation ward
14:32
yeah actually
14:33
the boat is almost it's it's set up
14:36
pretty perfect for um self isolator
14:41
compass is not liking it because he
14:42
misses emma but emma's over here in the
14:44
state room i can pass food down to her
14:48
she can pass or and let us know whatever
14:50
she needs we've cleaned and sanitized
14:52
everything on board
14:54
and we're going to hope for the best i
14:55
mean i'm sure that's going to be nothing
14:57
emma is a very healthy
14:59
girl and uh she very rarely gets sick
15:02
and when she does she gets over it
15:04
pretty quick
15:06
so so we're going to go in get the rapid
15:09
test just to
15:11
give us peace of mind or verify or
15:13
verify and we just will um
15:16
we'll figure it out yeah regardless
15:17
we're going to play it safe and
15:19
and
15:20
keep this boat nice and sterilized and
15:22
keep her happy and healthy it's usually
15:24
clean anyways but i'm just being extra
15:26
cautious and wiping everything down i
15:28
already did everything this morning and
15:30
last night we've been monitoring her and
15:33
she seems good she's in good spirits she
15:35
broke her fever last night so
15:38
i think that we just have to
15:40
now now protect us and everybody else so
15:43
yeah just in case and compass is
15:45
stalking the staircase looking for her
15:47
because normally she's up and at it at
15:50
six o'clock in the morning and he hasn't
15:51
seen her yeah he likes his routines
15:55
so in the meantime
15:56
chicken soup that'll cure everything i
15:58
think that cures everything every time i
16:00
make it you guys get better or maybe you
16:02
guys don't want me to make it that's why
16:04
you get better either way i'll take it
16:06
are you kidding it smells delicious
16:12
[Music]
16:23
[Music]
16:27
so
16:32
[Music]
16:43
do
16:47
[Music]
16:53
[Music]
17:03
we dropped a hook in the la cruz
17:05
anchorage we felt like this was in our
17:06
best interest to be close to services
17:08
just in case emma's condition worsened
17:11
and it did we quarantined onboard basic
17:14
for the next five days and felt like we
17:15
were in a good place for emma to
17:17
recuperate she battled high temperatures
17:20
sore throat earaches and extreme
17:22
exhaustion
17:23
eventually her symptoms slowly faded and
17:26
at this point we felt it was safe for
17:27
teal to head into town and purchase a
17:29
rapid test
17:31
we really don't know what bug emma
17:32
picked up because her test came back
17:34
negative
17:35
this area is currently experiencing a
17:37
spike in cases so we were comfortable
17:39
following protocol
17:41
emma is feeling much better now and is
17:43
anxious to leave the isolation award
17:48
i must adjust my mask
17:51
emma are you bored
17:53
no
17:55
must clean
17:56
the lens
18:00
hello
18:02
hey you
18:03
am i pointing at somebody
18:06
oh that hurts my arm so much
18:10

bandera's bay
18:33
so come back next week
18:35
as we continue our story
18:38
see you then
