On this week's of Onboard Lifestyle, we leave the beautiful Tenacatita to explore Barra de Navidad. After dropping anchor in the Lagoon, Teal goes out to assist not one but THREE vessels that ran aground in the narrow channel of Barra. We heard there was a shipwreck from 2015 so we set off to see what remains of her. Linh develops a new crush and it involves quite a bit of butter. Come back next week to see another awesome new video...see you then!

on the last episode of onboard lifestyle
0:33
we settled into life in bahia teneketa
0:36
i had so much fun playing my violin at
0:38
the mayor's wrapped up talent show
0:46
the crew took the dinghy across the bay
0:48
to re-provision in la manzania today was
0:51
a good day
0:54
we celebrate chinese new year on board
0:56
basic with a few friends and of course
0:58
the menu was delicious and the crew gets
1:01
an invite to dance into the night on
1:03
kaori that gets you caught up so let's
1:05
start things there
1:09
[Music]
1:23
i
1:26
[Music]
1:48
most people when they leave or come into
1:50
tankita head around the rock
1:54
some people actually cut through
1:57
between the point
2:00
and the rock like this guy right here
2:03
there's known obstructions
2:06
all the way through here
2:08
and uh i've seen them by dinghy other
2:10
people seen them they're documented but
2:12
uh if you have the experience and you
2:15
feel confident enough a lot of people
2:16
will cut right through not me
2:21
right why risk it the rock's right there
2:23
we're just going around
2:33
[Music]
2:47
to make sure
2:49
[Music]
2:59
well we're
3:00
about halfway from tanakatita
3:04
we're going to be anchoring in the
3:06
lagoon
3:07
now the lagoon's uh
3:09
notorious for being a
3:11
somewhat questionable entrance
3:14
it's not well documented there's no
3:16
buoys that mark the channel
3:18
and you just kind of go off
3:21
hearsay
3:22
guidebooks
3:23
there's a little bit on
3:25
some of the navionics charts but not
3:27
much detail
3:28
so we'll we're going to time it for high
3:30
tide and just ease our way in
3:33
it's got a nice little breeze right now
3:36
a couple miles to go we should be
3:38
hitting the entrance here in about an
3:39
hour
3:40
let's tuck
3:42
right in here
3:56
getting close to the lagoon
3:59
all this jungle debris is washing out
4:10
the entrance to the bar lagoon is easy
4:12
to navigate with red and green channel
4:14
markers that guide you through the break
4:16
water to the marina in a dredged and
4:18
well maintained channel
4:20
as you pass the grand bay resort to your
4:22
starboard you immediately feel like you
4:24
have arrived at a tropical oasis
4:27
next you see is the marina puerto de la
4:30
navidad
4:31
which has 200 slips that can accommodate
4:34
vessels upwards of 200 feet and share
4:36
the resort's luxurious amenities
4:40
as you continue past the marina to the
4:42
lagoon anchorage you must be cautious
4:44
and proceed slowly
4:46
there is a narrow unmarked channel that
4:49
leads to the anchorage that if you
4:50
wander to either side will shallow
4:52
quickly and ground your vessel in its
4:54
sandy muddy bottom
4:56
once in the anchorage there are no
4:58
marked boundaries and you must drop your
5:00
anchor in 7 to 12 feet of depth in a
5:03
natural pocket located in the center of
5:05
the lagoon
5:06
at low tide it is very obvious where not
5:09
to anchor as the majority of the lagoon
5:11
is less than five feet deep
5:14
yeah like this
5:16
i think we're gonna have fun here don't
5:18
you think
5:21
why not i mean look at this all new view
5:23
for a couple days
5:27
till just
5:28
left
5:32
and he is headed over to see if he can
5:34
assist one of our friends
5:36
is heading in
5:41
and this lagoon system is great but it
5:44
is extremely shallow especially at low
5:46
tide
5:47
so you really have to pay attention
5:51
[Applause]
5:54
if you are not paying attention for a
5:56
second um you can run around very easily
6:04
actually already two boats this morning
6:06
has already run aground so
6:08
you just got to keep your eyes peeled
6:13
yeah he's turning back there
6:18
luckily also uh if they did run aground
6:21
this is very nice soft mud uh and sand
6:25
so uh not
6:27
most likely you won't have any damage at
6:29
all so
6:48
either you wait for a high tide or a ho
6:51
somebody can pull you off with their
6:53
dinghy or a ponga if if needed but i'm
6:56
pretty sure this just happens so if
6:59
anything they are able to be backed off
7:02
very easily
7:18
how bad was it
7:20
probably won't it wasn't bad right well
7:22
it's not bad it's you know outside of
7:24
that little channel it's five feet deep
7:26
i know and there's no markers so they
7:28
just wandered off onto the edge i know
7:30
it's there's waypoints but you gotta
7:32
like pay attention and you can't even
7:34
look away for like a second and uh yeah
7:36
they just kind of wandered to the edge
7:38
it was easy we had five dinghies there
7:39
we just pushed him right to the center
7:41
of the channel and he was free isn't our
7:43
community awesome it is
7:46
not too bad
7:48
it's always fun entering the marina
7:50
it's always fun to
7:52
you know
7:53
a little excitement i like it um you got
7:56
a little mud on your arm forearm
7:59
oh i do
8:01
it's from his anchor team
8:15
[Music]
8:28
i've been so distracted this morning
8:30
because i am tracking somebody in the
8:33
lagoon this place is known for the
8:36
french maker and he delivers by ponga
8:40
he's already hit up the marina which
8:43
means they get first dibs and then it's
8:45
us in the lagoon but oh my gosh i am so
8:48
excited there's only going to be crowns
8:50
left you watch he is a real true
8:53
french baker you talk in croissants
8:56
baguettes
8:58
pastries you name it he has it and so i
9:02
am so excited even though it's hot out i
9:05
still want that and he's off tomorrow so
9:08
i might get an extra baguette
9:11
for uh tomorrow or today
9:14
something about fresh bread and
9:18
fresh bread and butter oh
9:20

9:21

11:14

12:21
yourself but that's love that's
12:25
[Music]
12:37
that's just love
12:39
that's just
12:56
[Music]
13:00
is
13:19
we are now all checked in and this is
13:22
the first time that emma and i have gone
13:24
to check in with the port captain just
13:26
because
13:29
just because uh
13:31
it is a little bit more of a
13:34
men centric uh
13:36
country and so we weren't sure that they
13:39
would be okay with me coming in as a
13:41
co-captain
13:43
to check us in but it was really sweet
13:46
this the entire port captain's office uh
13:48
here in bara it's all female they didn't
13:50
have any problems with us yep great so
13:53
now it's time to go to the open market
13:55
and
13:56
check out what they have
14:00
[Music]
14:16
this will be a fun day we're gonna head
14:17
out
14:19
head out of the barra lagoon
14:21
by dinghy and we're gonna go check out a
14:23
38 000 ton freighter that was
14:26
shipwrecked
14:27
in uh october 23rd of 2015.
14:31
what happened was it was sitting in
14:34
manzanilla and it was ordered to leave
14:36
manzanillo because of this yeah
14:38
hurricane patricia was coming in and the
14:41
captain
14:42
uh waited 10 hours
14:46
and went the wrong way instead of going
14:48
south he went north
14:50
and they hit
14:52
30 foot seas
14:54
and
14:55
horrendous category 5 uh conditions and
14:59
ran this freighter right up on shore so
15:02
it's been there for what seven years now
15:04
it's starting to decay and rust away but
15:07
we're gonna go check it out we're gonna
15:08
go look guys
15:10
yeah i'll be fine it's big enough that
15:12
you can actually dingy through it right
15:13
well not through it i think you could
15:15
enter it in a couple spots i don't know
15:18
that's what people have said i've never
15:20
i have no clue what we're gonna see so
15:22
this will be fun but first
15:24
one stop before we head out yes we're
15:26
hungry
15:27
we're gonna go get some fresh croissants
15:31
from your boyfriend from my boyfriend
15:35
and we're gonna go with a couple other
15:37
cruisers we've got a little flotilla of
15:39
dinghies heading out so this would be a
15:41
lot of fun today
15:42
[Music]
15:58
bad garbage
16:02
[Music]
16:19
thank you
16:23
you too
16:27
i know i want i want you to look at that
16:29
how pretty it is oh emma let me see
16:33
i told you buy it but it's almost gone
16:38
that's beautiful
16:43
take a bite
16:49
[Music]
16:51
i don't know what it means but there's a
16:54
smile upon your face
16:59
and i see something shimmering in your
17:02
eyes
17:06
and they say if you wanna glimpse the
17:09
future you need space
17:12
[Music]
17:13
and you said you'll put down your
17:16
morning
17:18
wow
17:19
let's see
17:21
she's an angry beast
17:23
look at that i i still just in awe the
17:25
size of the ship and how it's been just
17:28
ripped apart
17:29
in just seven years this is crazy
17:32
not even seven years yet this is
17:35
the ship is half gone
17:37
and just
17:38
torn apart absolutely just pulled apart
17:43
i think it's uh
17:45
it's pretty cool to be so up close and
17:48
personal with this
17:49
i know it just
17:52
gives you that eerie feeling though
18:11
