We discover that Salty Lass is a floating bomb as we have a leak in our butane gas system. Very luckily for us, the leak is in the best possible place.
So, once we stop tossing our butane overboard, we look at ways to use less of it using Mr D's thermal cooker - and Prudence interferes as usual....

we have a gas problem one of our
cylinders distended itself in a few days
so we seem to have the Catholic so I'm
checking the hose and I'm using dish
soap it's all in soapy water I'm just
rubbing it on find all the joints the
idea is to follow this back into the
ship into the boat and see if I can find
any spaces where it's leaking and this
seems all right
does it seem to be any problems on this
end so this is looking good
or close in some directions so now we're
not getting that Lake but if this opens

so got some nice new hose pretty young
for this no I heard the reverse problem
the hose was such a close fit on the bar

end I had to resort to Teflon tears even
if the tap will tip getting it almost
something of a struggle
I put the Jubilee clip my god there's
something of a courtesy item I don't
think it was actually needed

nightmare stage I had to do the whole
thing all over again
in a confined space with a fitting I
couldn't move I used the old hose to
measure the length of the new hose and
then cut it more teflon tape was applied
to the Barb in the locker and then the
whole struggle began of getting the gas
hose onto that
pretty much evenly pepper felt like a
kind of victory
I put the bottle back on repressurize
the system and then tested for leaks I
didn't find any from the locker all the
way to the cooker is a copper pipe it
seemed to be fine and then I tested the
flexible hosing behind the cooker as
well it was fine
problem was that the hose looks alright
jakajan inspection but if you put the
bottle in the wrong way and twist the
hose look at all these cracks it open up
and one of these is leaking sill

these thermal cooker Wow and we're
hoping this will cut down gas
consumption and stuff we've got the
instruction book which is hope it is I

way this works is you put this on your

so we have our bits and bobs of garlic
the onion sure it's so I was gonna do
something with this but it's just not
gonna work out the way I thought I've
got some stock cube and I've got my
potatoes which I've diced this is going
to be mashed potatoes so I'm not too
worried about it so I'm gonna put
boiling water in here and bring it up to
heat and I'm going to put this lot in
the bottom part and get it up to heat as
well
now I'll just turn on the cabin
ventilation so just put the extractor
hood on

a tablespoon of tomato puree no
supporting water

and then heaps teaspoon of cornflour mix
with a bit of water

right so let's sum ours later and this
shouldn't I be done so we're gonna open
it for the first time let me have a look
bad this is the potatoes will hopefully
be cooked through I'm gonna turn these
into it mash right so just got a drain
this water off should be a nice fit that
lid well I certainly look cooked to me

this is our stew yes it hasn't thickened
like I want to but then I suppose it's
because it you can't evaporate it you
know the main so what I might do is just
heat this a bit a bit of thickening into
it yeah coz I can see you mean it hasn't
you know there's there's no evaporation
the sauce isn't gonna thicken by being
reduced but would be great for soups
though brilliant for sakes occurs this
is exactly the kind of consistency that
you'd want for soup yep so maybe we need
just put less liquid into it exactly so
I'll get some cornflour I'm gonna get
this heated up and then will thicken it
hmm so here we go and I think one less
note of this is juices that come out of
the meat go into the gravy if you put a
lot of juice in it's got nowhere to go
at of a Priya right so don't put
too much liquid in well why'd you get a
very very runny gravy but it's our first
time use it and what the heck the
flavors are gorgeous though babe
absolutely meat nice and tender
the meat is just flakes away it's so
tender and I love the turret so with the
beef it was a real good flavor but when
you did it in the oven just that thicker
gravy just made it you know just maybe
that streets ahead so like you say we
just need to have another experiment
