We are Tanya and George, a couple from Greece and as we are sailing around, we document our summer moments at sea. Let the works begin!
Hello
Now we are going to start the work,
so we can launch the boat!
What's here?
It's the connection
between the boat's hull and the keel.
That's the layer of polyester putty,
which contains glass fibers
for more flexibility.
Because of the fact that some water passed in between the putty and the keel connection,
we have to apply new putty and then sand it and paint it again.
We are going to remove all the furniture, and after that we'll put the new wallpapers because the old ones are completely destroyed!
By now we have removed almost everything out of the boat,
and what remains is to remove the central abeam bulkhead.
Before I am able to remove the bulkhead, I have to put a pillar in the middle of the deck,
so it holds its weight as long as the bulkhead is out of place, for avoiding the deformation.
So let's start!
Completely empty
What are you doing there?
I'm going to remove the old paint of the inner deck, at the place where the old beam bulkhead is attached to inner deck,
to put some new layers of fiberglass to reinforce this point, as it has started to break because of the loads it takes.
The paint is removed and we can see the pure polyester.
Now I am cutting some fiberglass strips which I will soak with resin and put them in place.
We are going to make the mix of epoxy resin and hardner.
Are you coating those surfaces, so you can glue the fiberglass easier?
Yes, and after that I will soak it again with resin.
Now we are gluing the first one!
As you see, all the furniture are out of place.
We removed the old foam from the inner hull
Now we are going to place the new foam on the surface, cut it exactly in shape, so it fits perfectly.
This will be glued on the hull and after that, the wallpaper will be glued on the foam.
-That's the next step.
-So now we start, bye bye
This wooden piece will be placed on the joint of two wallpaper parts,
to cover the gap.
This is a metal blade that I cut out from a metal sheet,
I drilled it and now I will drill the wooden piece too.
We have already put the wallpaper on all the surfaces of the inner haul,
here is the wooden piece that I covered with black leather.
At the bow, you can see the front bulkhead that I covered with black leather too.
Since we finished the wallpapers, we decided to go for a two day camping in Trahili Beach In Chios.
After we returned, we continue now with the reposition of the varnished furniture.
Here I'm going to make caps for those cupboards, as I made here too.
Great!
I will capture the outline on paper, I will cut the outline and I will transfer it on the wood that I'm going to work it out.
So, having already placed all the mattresses and pillows, this is the final look of Kukumatz.
Freshly varnished furniture,
new leather caps for cupboards
and the new wallpapers on all the surfaces of the inner hull.
Today we are painting the underwaterbody.
What are you doing now?
Vaxing and polishing!
