previously
on sailing and fun the captain got busy
lowering and raising the mast on our
super versatile mcgregor 26x
so that we can duck under some of the
many bridges
in the florida keys and go sailing on
the bayside
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
we managed to schedule some refitting
time on the catamaran
today we are installing a new bulkhead
over the existing bulkhead
it's like one project takes two months
well stop talking to me sorry
[Music]
and we cruised into a beautiful sunset
we send out lots of love and thank yous
to our supporters here on youtube at
patreon.com and vimeo.com
and if you want to get in on some of
that fun check the links below
the weather looks good for a day on the
reef so the captain hustles
us out so we can get a mooring ball he's
a little annoyed by all the lobster pots
along the way though
[Music]
now she's trying to dodge all these crab
pots why go in the cabin
and work on some things but it's like a
it's like a slalom fork
and the grass the sea grass gets caught
up hot on our motor and cavitates
so bring the pots to waves the wind
and the grass is pretty busy driving
good job now that's how you grab a
mooring line
concord
we've already seen a couple big turtles
on the way in
the town right now turtles
no no fish oh the tank
okay what'd you just see oh there's a
ton of rainbow carrots behind us
where um
no they're there
some parrots coming towards us and
this is about four three or four feet of
water
and uh they're just rainbow parrots
swimming right next to the boat you can
make out
their eyes
there's something scared towards us
[Applause]
with the dive flag in place it's time to
jump in
we've we've got we've got the rare reef
noodle
captured it's rare noodle
is camouflaged by being the same color
as the water but
can't fool this snorkeler
stop talking so pretty from
in the water yeah it looks pretty
the tang are swimming by in front
between us after having lost one of our
biminis in a storm we ordered
another one really quickly you can see
with both
up we have the cockpit completely shaded
at high noon
and really throughout the day we have a
lot of comfort being in the boat and we
would not be able to enjoy it
as much without it don't know why but
it's a beautiful day ideal conditions
low wind low waves
low tide and there's hardly anyone
on the reef today kind of surprising
but uh we'll take it
there she is the distance out this far i
really should have a buoyant die flag
you can pick them up for around 30
for a little extra protection more tang
sown right by the boat while we're on
morning
mooring and it is still morning
and just absolutely ideal conditions
tang hunter looks like she's been
harpooned
not sure what happened but her injury
doesn't seem to be slowing her down
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
okay well we just had a shark come up to
the boat
not sure what type it was about next to
us
believes it was a bowl because i think
it was i got a good look at it
as it was going through the grass looked
like it was six or seven feet
and just cruised out of sight into the
uh
to the grass line straight behind our
boat
so uh our fearless snorkel jumps in
every time
someone says shark it's not a healthy
reaction but
that's the reaction so that's what we're
doing right now
[Music]
all this right after we saw a shark
that was good oh my goodness how's the
pool today
[Music]
i guess it's not too interesting if it's
not coming to check it out
seas today were one to two feet
and this is the bay late afternoon
this smooth it's a lot easier to see the
lobster pots with the waves not crashing
against them and camouflaging them
sure is beautiful
in the scene
oh who's that who's that
what who's that i'm setting up the scene
wind is pretty low today so we're going
to head out in search of a sandbar
passing some beautiful real estate along
the way
the everglades national park wow hope
you all can see that
that's a piece of it anyway i believe
the everglades
national park are uh 20 000
acres although i am repeating that
having heard it
that is not something i read so i have
to get
get back to you on the accuracy of that
number
sounds like a lot i should have learned
by now not to repeat what i've heard so
what i found out was that the everglades
national park
is 1.5 million acres of wetland made up
of mangroves sawgrass marshes
and pine flatwoods and it's home to
hundreds of animal species
including the endangered leatherback
turtle the west indian manatee
and the florida panther
[Music]
a human eye can detect more shades of
green than any other color so
out here in the huge especially on the
bay side there's just a
myriad of greens
[Music]
that you're able to see
at low tide there are all these little
sand bars and places that you can just
stop and park your boat or at least we
can on the mcgregor because again the
draft is only 18 inches
so we take full advantage anytime we can
there's beautiful spots that are
secluded
and our own private little destination
for the day
[Music]
three
they're not so cute with a bikini but
water socks are a must
on these little sand bars there's a lot
of broken shell
and also some kind of hard grass and
plants underfoot so make sure you have
those handy
[Music]
here's another reason why water socks
are a good idea on sand bars and around
the islands
just a few feet off the boat this
southern stingray had buried himself
down into the sand
stepping on that barb on the end of his
tail would have been extremely painful
[Music]
hope y'all enjoyed some of those
beautiful water shots we look forward to
seeing you here next time so subscribe
so you don't miss
any of the sailing and fun and as always
a huge thank you to all of our
supporters
[Music]
