last time on saline and fun we gave an
update on the catamaran
showed you how we took care of some more
leaks that we found around the boat
did some scraping down of the windows
and used
some caulking that we definitely
recommend
work has worked really well on the
mcgregor and we're hoping it's going to
work just as well on the cat
and life seal we also of course have a
little bit of fun bantering with one
another
it's good to do that when you are
together 24 7. you know
you just go the whole day without eating
that's not healthy
you got a whole day without working
missed a spot
every time i turn around you're eating
again stop turning around
we also showed a little bit of why we
are taking on this
massive refitting in the first place
well i guess what we're showing you here
is really how much fun we've had on the
mcgregor we love this boat we can sail
places
we can trailer it and we've had a ton of
fun
exploring but we're really looking
forward to getting the cat finished
because of the livability
the deck space and also the destinations
that are even further away that we can
go
but for now let's take the mcgregor and
continue exploring the crystal coast of
north carolina
the beaufort inn oh look at that
catamaran
that's nice
wow a lot going on here
determination i like that
and if you're into dolphins this seems
to be the place to be we saw them
everywhere i mean only even a few feet
from shore
people were swimming very close to them
we have a lot of places around here you
can get to
by car and just kind of around the sound
and whatever
other waterways these are called here
and dogs are allowed
on little islands here you have to have
them on leash
six feet or shorter in some areas
hell i don't even know where we're going
oh i see the chamber and then a bunch of
places that you can only get to buy boat
of course that's what we're going for
today we're trying to make it out to the
cape
lookout lighthouse i see the waves
that's where we're headed
we saw more boats here than any place
we've ever traveled and it seemed like
it was very safe
but if you aren't familiar with the area
you can quickly get into trouble
oh
[Music]
you can come out a little in just a
little bit are we
a lot of boats are going that way do we
go that way
oh where the hell is this this is the
wrong direction
honey that's inland but both sides
we lost our shower bag
i put the camera down and had to put on
a life vest put life vests on the dogs
we
also the anchor in about a hundred feet
of rope fell
into the ocean and the captain had to
run up there and retrieve it while i was
trying to
manage the waves it was truly terrifying
it was
one of the the worst spots and positions
that we put ourselves in
and we have since found out that this
area
in fact the whole coastline of north
carolina is called the graveyard of the
atlantic
because of all the shoals and kind of
treacherous waterways
oh yeah well i don't ever want to do
that again unless we're prepared
especially in an area you haven't gone
before
the air conditioner popped up on the
side it was about to fall and
hit scalp i got it secure now and we
have no full ballast
yeah this is a full ballast keeps it
separate
rocks back and forth but then flip
i got some banged up knees on that one
i don't know they look like they're used
to it
are you sure you want to sit like that i
know
she was shaking too
scout had the cooler cushion fell on top
of her head and she just laid down
we were staying at a marina and it
seemed like the day was taking forever
to get
started so we didn't do what we should
have done take care of the cockpit clean
everything out store everything away
properly
otherwise it can be real dangerous
there's only one thing on the table
everything flew off the table
and this is better
every time i see a catamaran now i've
you've got me like thinking that i don't
know gold or something
it's nice safe place to anchor
one thing i like about our catamarans it
kind of steers itself this boat
steers itself in another way uh the only
thing harder it looks like a jet ski if
you let go of the wheels
yeah yeah i was gonna say the only thing
harder to steer than this boat is the um
sea doo
this one if you get thrown over i'll
come back and pick you up
oh man it's always a good sign when you
see a bunch of kayaks
the captain wanted to try to go out on
the atlantic
he said it would be faster i think it's
faster to our deaths but anyway it
worked out and now we
are uh we're trying to make our way to
the lighthouse which i just think i saw
i think i see the lighthouse dead ahead
[Music]
we're back on track and safely taking
taylor's creek
i would say it's the main thoroughfare
for people wanting to get out to the
lighthouse and the other
islands around the area it's lined with
beautiful homes and some of them have
private docks or private boat ramps that
they'll
allow you to put in for a nominal fee
but they're also public ramps all along
the creek
let's go to your boat
so we're cruising along here and
i'm not sure um
where this is i think it's rachel and i
can't remember the
name rachel crawford or we'll have to
look it up of course
refuge there's also shackleford island
here in the cape lookout national
seashore
and these are wild horses they just
they're not fed they're not taken care
of
by humans in any capacity other than of
course they are protected
and they just forage here and they swim
and they
have adapted it's amazing
she's looking she sees them what do you
see scout
yeah she smells them dixie smells them
too look
there are a few ferry services that
leave from taylor's creek that'll take
you out to harkers island shackleford
island
and also the lighthouse it's like 18
for an adult 11 for children and they
even allow your pets for seven bucks
each
my gosh there's a lot happening
for kind of a narrow area there was a
lot going
on i think we ended up getting in some
fishing tournament boat traffic we
couldn't really figure out what it was
but a lot was happening people were
fishing
sailing down the creek kayaking i mean
this is a
very busy and popular place
it's a water landing helicopter
trawler shrimping is the big thing
in north carolina which is a nice break
from all the bobbing and weaving
around the lobster and crab pots down in
the keys
there's some nice wind down here we're
not planning to sail today but wow this
would be really good
slalom of course through here were
got real tight we're hoping to be able
to speed up so
luckily a fairy passed us that they go
to the lighthouse
throughout the day so we figured let's
just
follow the ferry this is our first time
here so there is crazy shallow
everywhere
well we've made it to the end of this
video and we thank you
all for watching we hope you subscribe
and we hope you tune in next time when
we finally
make it out to the lighthouse
