Aggressive peacocks, the Fountain of Youth, and a CREEPY stuffed animal house!! Sailboat living with SailAway #11. This week we duck out of the unrelenting wind on the Intracoastal Waterway and check the sailboat into not only one, but two marinas in St. Augustine.
It wasn't all fun and games while here but it definitely leaned toward fun and relaxation. Since the wind speed and direction nor the boat wanted to cooperate for a Bahamas crossing this time around, we decided to cut our losses and enjoy our Florida cruise! There's more to the sailing world than just the water. First, we dug into the engine to alleviate our overheating issues, then explored a lot of beautiful old St. Augustine. Marinas, forts, THE fountain of youth, peacocks, creepy houses, and boat drinks! All a part of sailboat living! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT! Cheers!!

I don't even know what's happening right now.
Smokers!
All gone
We're still going to st. Augustine. Its been four days of trying to get st. Augustine and now
we're in the ICW again. With wind on our nose.
This week on sailing SV Leila we work on our overheating issues and we slack
around st. Augustine
Where'd it go?
Today we sat here.
It's pretty nice
Cleaned up the boat. Inside and out
Did laundry
Got some more groceries.
Barrowed the marina, one of the marina cars to do that.
Yea Chris and I fixed the motor.
There's a Yanmar Dealership over here at Cammache Cove Yatch Harbor
Really really nice bunch of people
They had what we were looking for right there .
They knew right what we needed.
Even to solidify what we were already thinking.
It was the mixing elbow
We took it off and it was so gross, really clogged up with carbon and junk
and I had one right there on the shelf we bought the mixing elbow and the joint
The connector goes with it stainless steel connector put all that in
We haven't had it out on the water to test it. But I mean it was running cooler just at
idle yeah I mean there was no water getting through that thing. It aught to be a whole lot better
And yeah just kind of hung around the boat. I did a lot of cleaning today
The boat was looking pretty rough.
So yeah so that's all we're doing. It's really insanely windy here pretty much everywhere up
the coast from what I understand but it's gusting up high 20s 30 and the
harbor just looks really angry. So we were planning to stay in st. Augustine anyways.
Just to kind of check things out. That's done we're ready to motor again
so tomorrow I think the plan is, are we staying here still? We're still just staying here.
The wind looks very contrary to getting over to the Bahamas for us. We got kind of behind
and it might be a good thing that we did because the wind is looking really
strong it's moving all over the place over the next week so it could be a
rough trip over to the Bahamas for anybody who's trying to make it in the
next week or so from what I'm seeing. So we're just gonna
enjoy what we're doing. We're going relax have a nice little cruisin snippet
of a cruising lifestyle and go down the coast see a couple of towns, go to the beach.
Baby likes the beach. And have fun.
We're walking around on St. Augustine
just kind of picking things out and peacocks.
Peacock cock cocks
there's the dude show us your peacock
We're cool, we're cool hey back off.
It's your turf we get it.
You abandoned your chicks though, your ladies. He's like they'll come back don't worry about it.
I hear one calling in the background, oh there's another male.
Why did the peacock cross the road? I won't give a dirty punchline. Because that's where its witches are. Thats what I was about to say.
I forget to mention that those peacocks that we just saw we're at the
fountain of youth which is right back there. I always wondered where it was but
it's only open from 9:00 to 5:00.
We've seriously only walked like two blocks
around the corner across the bridge from where our boat is and this is what we find.
First the Fountain of Youth, then a bunch of crazy wild peacocks which may belong in
the Fountain of Youth Park and then this scary house with stuffed animals in the front yard.
For a change of scenery we decided to make the short hop down to the municipal
marina which is right in the heart of st. Augustine.
Boat surgery. See my splinter? This is what happens when I get nervous and we're pulling into slightly
small spot. What'd you do? I tried to fend off that pyling yeah that one right
there. I had it I'm sorry. And like your dad
said they bounced for a reason. yeah I know that it just makes me feel better
oh that hurts, to do something. you know? It's just in that first layer of skin
So it doesn't hurt too bad
I can see the end of the thing. I say that it doesn't hurt that bad.
Dad's got a knife. I'm ready I'm ready cut it out.
It's pretty mean looking. It's cuz we're in this tiny little space
we fit but I was a little worried so. Well I was too.
Like when you approach it I've never pulled into one of these before with a piling on that side.
It kind of looked like it was too small for our beam. Once I got a little
closer lined up with it I'm like I think I got this. I think it's like 11
I think it's like 11x11 and we're 11x9.
We moved from, you
can see this bridge we went under that bridge and then there's a bridge right
after that right behind that bridge is where our last marina was.
We maybe went a mile, downtown St. Augustine
So we're going to go do a little walking around, betcha it's gonna be real pretty.
We're at a fort. We're in St. Augustine's Castillo de Forto
Are you getting a bath? Are you getting a bath on a boat? the best thing ever
