Ahoy,
When you are in a boatyard, all what counts is that you can check off things off your list to get the heck out of there... We had to stay longer anyway to dry the hull so we added quite a few projects to our list.
In this episode we're going to check them off. Many projects took a long time, some needed other projects to finish first to get done and some were just a quick task. (but only some!) Let us show you what and how we did to ZERO..

so i'm working here all day in face just
lying in the sun
yeah lying in the sun enjoying the
nature
where's my pina colada i ordered
[Music]
we knew we would spend many more months
in the yard and started some
improvements we were considering for a
long time already
it's now our leather
we might have been carried away a little
about the projects we started
but xero's arctic had a massive design
failure the position of the hatch didn't
make any sense
so we ripped it out
build a new hatch with an acrylic window
and relocated it to the center of the
cabin
we were thinking about that for so long
and we were actually pretty surprised
how quick we finished it compared to the
years of
thinking and rethinking the pros and
cons
[Music]
once the tag was in runes anyway we
reinforced the deck with three layers of
[Music]
fiberglass
you're crazy
fat and sand the hell out of it and
applied a few coats of shiny white paint
and even more
varnish all around it
[Music]
[Music]
now we have a huge area to launch on a
new cozy cushion
the acrylic window in the hatchlings a
ton of sunlight in the aft kevin
and the ventilation of the whole boat
improved a lot
the dodger the cushions and all the
shiny paint
actually makes you think you're on one
of those super yachts
and we love to hang out there during the
days and even at night
to watch the stars
so really are there aliens here is there
a
fire hazard outbreak i heard of a kind
of a
marshmallow alien running around here in
the boat yard i don't know what it is i
haven't seen
it it's called the ghostbusters
we're spraying the final code uh
for the dax table for the new dex cable
which looks awesome by the way
we're spraying the two final coats
with a tray gun you did that before
well yeah but it's a long time ago
[Music]
we build a slide-out decks table which
stores in the house
underneath the hot dodger
[Music]
[Music]
it's a huge table for long relaxing
breakfasts
and even longer barbecue nights but it's
easily out of the way when not needed
[Music]
so
we also added lazy bags for main and
music
and a new cover for the stay sale
the black sunbrella looks way better and
because we custom designed them
on the boat they fit perfectly and look
rather slim and elegant
than the bulky ones we've seen so many
times before
in addition we changed all the winches
to self-tailing winches
so hoisting the mainsail is even easy
for me now
evp no power needed
[Music]
oscar did a great job suing them and now
it's a
piece of cake to work for sale
[Music]
we also replaced the solar panels with a
new technology
we more than doubled the voltage and
divided the four panels into
standalone systems the new panels are
bigger than the old ones
and the old mounts didn't fit but thanks
to our friend richard
that problem got quickly resolved
[Music]
adding a few pieces new mounts for the
solar panels here
i'm going to put one more on here
another wire
this is another piece i added for
mounting the surfboards here like these
two with two new
struts in
[Music]
so this is the new solar setup before i
had 660 watts of solar so i was running
just with one
charge controller it's a 60 amp charge
controller
now we are going to put
1400 watts solar on this system on the
boat
so it will be two separate systems 700
watts on this one and seven watts on
this one they're connected by a meter
hub
goes to the external
digital
[Music]
remote
hey everyone we ripped apart the
complete forward hat
and i mean everything it looked like a
huge
mess for a long time
we took care of the anchor locker as
well and made more room so the anchor
chain can fall down without stacking up
and blocking the windlass all the time
the old head had almost no storage space
so many times we ended up on the forward
head with a cold drink in our hands to
plan and think about different solutions
finally decided we now have a beautiful
forward head with lots of
usable storage
the counter as well as the toilet and
shower seed
are made out of local wood cold perota
known for its typical grain it's used
often for kitchen counters
and many coats of epoxy and varnish
later
the wood looks absolutely amazing
to warm outside
the old freezer and the salon never
worked and we
used it as an ordinary storage
compartment
[Music]
rebuilding it with new insulation
cooling plates and compressor
would have cost a fortune
so we decided to put in two portable
fridge freezer units
from winter they are pretty much the
same as the well-known angle freezer
only a bit cheaper
[Music]
you inspecting it yeah is it okay
christian grabbed deep and working back
and the outcome looks
[Applause]
fantastic
[Music]
it's a long list of projects and we are
extremely proud to say we checked off
most of it zero changed to its best and
we feel
way more comfortable in our floating
home now
you can imagine the last nine months
were extremely exhausting and in
addition we fought with a brutal mexican
nature
the summer knocked on our door and we
were still trapped in the dirt yard
most of our friends already left and in
exchange
mosquitoes scorpions and deadly
poisonous spiders moved in
we needed a solution now
but more about that next week on sailing
zero
[Music]
so
[Music]
oh
it's just me and my boat
it's just me
