i think straight into it this week as
you know you probably know
this is kind of the story of the build
of this this sailing cruising sailboat
32-foot boat
and this week been very active in this
workshop shed very active he says
i've done a bit on the boat of course as
well started off with
you might remember i was forming up this
this
um fiberglass
panel for the motor panel also the stop
port goes in here
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
so
um
[Applause]
[Music]
okay
[Applause]
that's
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
uh yeah oh yes
good
yes
[Applause]
oh
that's lovely
[Applause]
so
so that will be recessed into the
cockpit it will have a uh
have a clear perspex cover that that
hinges
over top of it so that will all be
protected out of the way and that's
come out very well it's in undercoat at
the moment so i
still need to get some some gloss on it
but uh looking good
what are you making christmas
and then i wanted to get on with the
electrical installations in the boat so
for a while now i've had some lights
that i want to put in the saloon area
in the cabin inside and the nature of
those is i need they need the wire to
come in from behind them so i made up
these little
cherry wood blocks with um
paths for the wire to run through the
the light will fit on there
like that with the wire coming in from
behind it so i can route the wires
tightly
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
so
[Applause]
[Music]
so
you
and in a way that's the thing i've been
doing quite a lot of wiring in the boat
this week and it's there's wiring itself
isn't tricky but the
thing that takes all the thought is
trying to work out how to most
effectively run the wires so you can
so you can not see them or see see them
as little as possible
and also i've tried to keep all the
wiring up high so it's nothing in the
bilge
yeah in here it's all about the office
you've got
the switch panel here and uh
it's all about trying to route the wires
that are needed
as tightly as possible so you can see
quite a bit of wiring going on in there
and if you come in
in here kerry you'll see i've got this
channel which will be covered up
i've got this channel that's a major
sort of
through fair major archery for
electrical wiring
dips down there comes
through into our
[Music]
electric bay as such it's very dark in
there but it's coming through into there
so rooting wires um
this route i've been thinking about
getting or nav light connection which
will also be for the compass obviously
compass light comes on with it with the
lavaliers
and feed through to the plotter
[Applause]
so i've been doing quite a lot of
thinking about that quite a lot of
routing of wires
uh most of the half wires are now in
position i think
and i've got one more set of wires to go
forwards forwards them across to the
port side
nav lights uh feed for the fan on the
stove
lights in the galley um that's my near
running into the engine room i've run i
say nav lights
plot the feed bilge pump feed
so i think i'm getting there and even on
a
boat as simple as this and then really
is relatively low-tech at least
there's still you know more wiring than
you expect
there's a fair bit of wire to run um
and we're getting there
[Applause]
could be coming around up there we
couldn't we
there
[Applause]
so
[Applause]
yes
also spend a day up at hazel's boat
cleaning up in there she's she's dug all
the old foam out of her bills where we
took the diesel tank out
still fairly horrible and he's clean and
she also she wants to fit a composting
toilet as i said so we
took the old toilet out did a few other
things
um run an electric cable so she's got
power
um we also pumped out the bilge
which is fairly horrible the way the
boat's set up the um
you've got a possibility to shower in
the heads and that drains into the
boat's bilge and then you know it can be
pumped out obviously with the bilge pump
but
um the net effect of that is that the
the builder
gets pretty stinky over the time that
it's been used the boat's nearly 40
years old so the bilgewater's
horrendous so we pump that out into
containers to dispose of
and took the toilet out as i say and
that was also
a less than pleasant job well it's
looking better
goal is to get it all cleaned out and
painted it's full of some
fairly unpleasant things and speaking of
unpleasant let's go in here
just taking the the toilet out
it's not very nice in there either get
rid of them hoses
give it a good old wash try and make it
smell a bit nicer
progress up coming on
so what's going on um well lots of
things actually
um right now i'm getting ready to clean
out the head
so you just took off the toilet
and it stinks yeah it needs to get
cleaned yeah the other thing we're
cleaning is the bilge isn't it yeah
lots of cleaning yes i'm about to also
pump out the main build don't we yeah
sort of got ourselves access to that and
we'll be pumping soon
oh what fun that's a filthy horrible
thing is it
stinks
what's going on hazel oh my god
oh we took the toilet out yeah
and now we're taking the pipes out under
everywhere it stinks a lot i'm just like
it's a good job you learn a smell on
this camera
oh it's horrible it is really bad
i just cleaned that suit
[Laughter]
it doesn't look too bad actually doesn't
it on camera i don't know if you could
smell it though
yeah a red bull yeah
oh actually i just held it to my face my
hand
[Laughter]
lovely and that's it for this week
thanks for watching
all that you know um we'll be getting on
with more wiring this week
wiring is it's not the most photogenic
thing but i've been running some more
wires
starting to think about the enemy ae
2000
network for the plotter and various
other bits uh
fairly simple one obviously but that's
got to be run as well
got the battery charger inverter to go
into
the bit of probably probably a week of
electrics this weekend especially
i'm going gonna see what that brings in
the way of videos to show you
but that's it for now see you next time
bye
although perhaps that isn't it for this
week because uh hazel and i have
released a single it's the first music
first new music i've put out for a long
time
it's called ocean view and it's
available
and all good digital sources i shall
leave you with a snippet
enjoy
