hi all happy new year 2021.
well it's been a couple of weeks since i
put a video out and spent a few days
in those in those two weeks so having a
good tidy up in here
sorting out the tools the storage
shelves behind me
been through most of the shed and sorted
through and it's a lot more
spacious now a lot more organized which
is good shot some junk out
but the other thing obviously been busy
on the boat
and uh we'll go through and go through
next door and have a look
now at the stage of the build now where
i've finished the wiring or when i
finish
for now and now and uh my thoughts now
are on
mast steps about it's two masks it's a
schooner rig
the forward mast is a bit shorter than
the earth mast
um but i need to get in the steps
for each of those two masks the mask
passed through the deck
says as is normal with junk rig boats
pass through the deck and they step down
on the keel or they're about something
solid down below in here
um and i it's most important that those
mast steps are in the right
place the forward mast for example has a
two degree
forward rake on it which is which is
something that you get on jumps after
the forward rake on the forward mast and
they look
they're pretty funky i'm rather rather
fond of that look and while back i cut
these holes in the deck
where the mask passed through cut pretty
generous holes i'm planning to make a
stainless fitting around there that the
mask passes through and will be wedged
in place there but obviously we have a
step down below
that the foot of the mast sits in and
that stent has to be in exactly the
right place to give us that
rake the main mast is upright the
forward mast has a say a two degree
forward
right so i wanted to make up
a dummy mast it didn't need to be
perfect but need to be
basically give me a good approximation
approximation of the size of the last
uh look at the taper and be able to
position the mast
steps accurately so i made up this dummy
mast
it's a jaunty angle because it's wedged
on the forward birth
side down below but there it is in place
there
and uh i
had a bit of an issue i made it up two
meters long which is what it needs to be
for the main mast
and i put it in position and looked at
it and it was quite happy with that
unfortunately i didn't film it when i
come forwards and put it in the to put
it into the forward mask
hole i couldn't get it in with the with
the roof being so low here so
um i had to chop the end off make it a
bit shorter
to get it in but it's in now and down
below
i've started making some good progress
on the on the forward master

all right get it in there

good we're out
so here's me laying down trying to get
in the picture and the master in the
picture at the same time
there we are the forward mast must
step the base of it basically just the
base
it's layered up of multiple layers of
plywood
a couple of blocks of solid dove fur
underneath
to fill up that and listen to that that
is
massively solid really pleasure the way
that's come out
i'll say just the base what comes now
this will be glassed over
last into the hull some thick webbing up
each side
and blast that to seal it and then
there'll be
six or seven layers of ply on top of
this
with with the hole cut out for the
master located there's our dummy mask
over on the side
yeah in terms of the outlook you know i
say 2021 now
where are we going this year um
very pleasing progress as you've just
seen i've started up in the
in the four peak there with that master
and the goal
now is to finish the four peak mast step
the clad in between the frames the
lining
hook up the water tanks i need to change
the layout of the bed boards the boards
are
sort of better you have better access
down below the bit
um but then that will be the fourth week
done and then to move
back in here i say done but obviously
the cushions will come last
move backwards move afterwards finishing
things
i've also ordered the metal to make the
the
mast partners fittings so i should be
getting that in
moving off finishing things we're pretty
much done
here in this region getting into the
galley
fitting the stove um
and then you finishing other finishing
needing there's not going to make a sort
of protecting
rail by the stove as well uh into the
heads
there's a door the sink needs fitting
properly
and then we're back into the engine room
from there
obviously the partner's fittings for the
main mast and the main mast step
moving afterwards engine room and a
little bit in the lazarette to go
and that's well we see it gets much of
that done this winter as possible
and then deck fittings a little bit of
finishing to do out in the cockpit area
um and as soon as possible this summer
hopefully pulling her out of the shed
and then would be time to start on the
keel
masts and well
it's very hard to estimate time needed
but i hope by
by summer late summer mars tequila
are underway and then we'll be getting
close
