This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. You make a real difference!! so we're up at hazel's boat
and all sorts of things going on do you
want to john talk us through a few
things i do
yeah i can do so we ordered the tank
so that is which tank's that oh a diesel
tank
all right i'll spin around yeah because
we've down there
all right ah under there there it is
down there here we did try it in place
just now and it fits
yeah which is good yeah and just now we
struggled a bit with the
new water hoses yeah you see that water
pipe's sticking out there that's him
uh it was stuck behind the fridge or ice
box i guess
hooked up to electricity but got that
out now so i'm just
about to put this tea piece on the tank
all right hook it up because why do we
need to see then because of course
there's also a tap some of the heads
well it's not
there right now let's just wander in
there okay it's just full of clutter but
obviously there's a pipe coming through
to there yeah
there's a sink that's happened non
through hull the toilet is progressing
quite well there looks good
what are those stones there for all
right good that you ask
there's like a well uh behind
this piece of wood yeah and we need to
fill it up because
well we don't need it yeah it's just
like a dip
and i've always water whatever i might
collect in there right there
shouldn't be nice i want the the
containers
to stand stable as well so that has to
be relatively even
yeah yeah and then what we've got in
this big box up here is all
exhaust bits exhaust bits let's have a
look took the exhaust
off i'm gonna replace some of the pipes
and
yeah i see things like that all right
complete new exhaust system eh yeah
better crack on them
[Music]
six
[Music]
how we
[Music]
soon we'll see what it's about
look at this thing for a difference the
last week amazing
still a few patches of the old white
stuff but
that is glorious
it's almost warm enough to take your
fleece off as well
oh it's climbing up
that might have been a bit wobbly
looking good doors open
some fresh air in
i've had these very nice drains for
quite a while now
brass drains and the plan is to put them
in the corners of the
of the cockpit just in case any any
moisture
you know there'll be a bimini over top
but any any water that should collect in
these corners can drain
and i think i'm going to pop them in
there and connect them up
through to the cockpit so they actually
exit through the cockpit drains rather
than having
even more through-holes so got these and
i thought
well i've got the depth fills the end
grain has applied
from the deck fills to to seal so i
thought you might as well cut the holes
for liters i can
seal all of that in green in one go so
they've got a a countersink on the top
there so
i had to buy a very big count sink bit
but i've done a trial run on a bit of
ply and
it seems to work so let's give it a go
[Music]
okay
gently does it get it down flush
one
try that
yeah that's perfect perfect
[Music]
yeah put that somewhere out the way here
so i'm looking at these companionway
stairs for a while
a good while now i had a set of teeth
stairs lint there but they were never
really intended to be the final solution
i've stuck various bits of masking tape
around to mark
some levels out and some ideas and
in the planning stage at the moment to
try and get a safe
um strong stairway in there
that will look good and also give us
good access to the engine room
um it's the last bit of construction in
here really
when that's done be able to get on
through the cabin sole one or two other
little bits to do still
one more step still to come some doors
in the heads
but uh getting close to being
finished is a dangerous word doesn't it
getting close to
being finished in here
finished he says
[Music]
uh
[Music]
[Applause]
oh okay
seems to look at work comfy
short person perfect for short people
yeah the taller ones have to sleep
outside and deck
yeah that's right nice looks good
so
[Applause]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
uh
[Applause]
not that way this way
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
uh
[Music]
[Applause]
so
okay
so
hmm
[Music]
[Applause]
right come out there like that
the recycled mahogany
foreign
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
so
[Music]
[Applause]
so yeah there's the box that forms the
first step
this piece of mahogany that i've
prepared will come along
something like that gives an edge to the
step
um this will be flat with with some
flooring some some
wood flooring so i need to get that bit
of mahogany at the right height so it
all finishes flush
but that looks something like that and
will look quite nice when it's painted
in
the box also gives us capacity
to get the motor battery in there
fits in there beautifully in there which
i'm quite pleased with
and the inverter will come in
there i believe with a remote switch and
switching on and off it's got the
possibility to
fit a remote switch so that'll be ideal
well protected and tucked out of the way
close to the service battery so we've
got very short runs of the
of the cables yes i'm very pleased with
that
plus of course some other storage
roundabout for things that are
suitable for that sort of thing
just bought this new earth clamp for the
welder
which is a serious upgrade
it's got to fit it i bought a electro
clamp
a while back just like that
it's a lot nicer than the old cheap
rubbish one that come on it
i'm just going to fit this earth clamp
now
that looks better let's get both of them
out
and there we are look at that
those look good don't know serious stuff
that's it for this week thanks for
