Rote Island in southeast Indonesia is really a small chunk of paradise. We've been down here a few weeks now and are still discovering new beautiful places and people. In this video we rent a motorbike and go enjoy the only waterfall on the island.

g'day guys welcome back to another video. We'reΒ here in Rote, Nembrala. Very crowded anchorage as youΒ Β

can see out here, a lot of squid boats in thatΒ sunset they'll race out there and throw downΒ Β

their wall of death uh yeah not too windy todayΒ the last few days i haven't actually wanted toΒ Β

leave the boat because these guys are anchoringΒ so close and they don't have any chain and theyΒ Β

just have this sort of rebar cast iron contraptionΒ of an anchor that doesn't really hold so they'reΒ Β

dragging all over the place and i'm always yeahΒ they're just like sketchy anchoring right next toΒ Β

us right in front of us right beside us but notΒ too windy today so we're to go on a little uhΒ Β

a little cruise renting a motorbike from steve atΒ shipwrecks and um yeah we need to get some stuffΒ Β

in the town and uh we're going to go and check outΒ a waterfall that apparently is very nice yeah it'sΒ Β

a super nice waterfall i went with some friendsΒ here and vernon was staying on the boat to takingΒ Β

care than the fishermen were not like damagingΒ the boat so now it's my time to showing to vernonΒ Β

yeah actually pretty cool because normally it's meΒ always showing her stuff so she's the tour guideΒ Β

today so i can legitimately get grumpy if sheΒ does things that gets us lost and stuff no noΒ Β

that's not nice not nice at all especially in thisΒ island the roads are really really crazy a lotΒ Β

of bumpy rocky things it's quite hard to drive inΒ this kind of place and i don't think it's my faultΒ Β

now mellow we don't have any real pressureΒ so we'll take you along and it's going toΒ Β

be a pretty mellow video we'll try and keep itΒ spontaneous and uh just show you our day enjoy

yeah so this is the famous shipwrecks barΒ here in nimbrella straight out front there isΒ Β

tea land that's sort of the most famous breakΒ here and there's all other lots of waves allΒ Β

around this place but um steve the owner ofΒ shipwrecks has been here one of the firstΒ Β

i guess to come here and start something heΒ just came as a surf bum i guess when he wasΒ Β

i think it's 25 years he's been been here soΒ um yeah one of the one of the pioneers of rotiΒ Β

surfing and uh amazing friendly amazing guyΒ he's just been helping us out with everythingΒ Β

here and uh yeah not wanting anything really justΒ just a genuinely friendly nice guy we got ourΒ Β

little motorbike for the day steve organized thatΒ thanks steve the helmets around here no one wearsΒ Β

helmets actually but because we're going to theΒ big city it's not really a big city it's a tinyΒ Β

town but it's the big city around here and thereΒ they have a policeman so we have to wear helmetsΒ Β

that's probably for the better but here youΒ see kids like three four kids on one motorbikeΒ Β

six years old ripping around no helmetsΒ anyway this is the local football ground

didn't get very far today maybe 10 minutes into itΒ Β

hit a bump a lot of bumps on these roadsΒ and uh yeah kill the tyre look at this

it's about 100 degrees i can hardly holdΒ on to it but why are we lucky so i thinkΒ Β

it pinched on the pinch the tube onΒ the rim but uh we're lucky becauseΒ Β

it's a nice day and we're both young and fit

because it happens just here sure yeah we pulledΒ up to check it i could feel the next cornerΒ Β

something was wrong and pulled up to check it andΒ then right up to the road as a tyre fixing guys soΒ Β

yeah it's also lucky thatΒ we're young and beautiful

just give him 20.

yeah no it's good oh that's goodΒ okay thank you back on the road again

this place is quite amazing we drive in allΒ this spot with super dry like really desert landΒ Β

everything is dead only someΒ cows and you turn just hereΒ Β

and you have all these rice paddies super green

okay yeah the limit is just like straightΒ boom here you have water you don't have yetΒ Β

well i think we made it oh if amber orΒ fember well if if marie didn't put aΒ Β

well she was here last week and uh with someΒ locals and she put a pin on the gps otherwiseΒ Β

you'd never find this place super crazy hey kidsΒ today down for a swim a bit shy a little bit yeahΒ Β

but they're all showing up because theyΒ want to see marie in a swimsuit i thinkΒ Β

i know the big boys behind you don't reckon let'sΒ go and check it out all right get back up a bit

one thing i really like in rote is theΒ really keep the cultural art in everythingΒ Β

even if they modernize the things like thisΒ is the printing of the e-cat you know theΒ Β

the big piece of fabrics they are weavingΒ so they are putting the patterns with theΒ Β

paint in some buildings or you can see theΒ the strange heart they have with the hornΒ Β

in the shape of the buildings like they areΒ really proud of the shapes and traditional art

hmm

yeah it's pretty awesome here uh driving on theΒ motorbike there's no way in how you would thinkΒ Β

that there's a waterfall here it was just dryΒ we sort of went up a hill but i don't know it'sΒ Β

you know it's not very mountainous or anythingΒ here it's just a little hill but it must justΒ Β

get pushed out and uh a lot of water evenΒ though it's the end of the dry season so it'sΒ Β

hasn't rained for eight months here there'sΒ still plenty of water here it's pretty amazing

so

we just walked about 30 minutes up the riverΒ Β

to try and find the source but obviously yeahΒ we didn't quite find it i found a cool littleΒ Β

pool and a waterfall here to uh yeah have aΒ shampoo and stuff we got some hippie soaps

yeah so we've got a little waterfall there toΒ wash out here and uh yeah no one around here

100 fewer hippies just squashed up heavies in hereΒ Β

they squashed them down and made properΒ hippies i can smell them time for a rinse

of thought oh this might be a bit boring withΒ no boat stuff no sailing stuff but then lastΒ Β

only sailing stuff so yeah get a bit of a mix onΒ this uh tv show here what was your thoughts onΒ Β

the day nah that was an amazing day i was happyΒ to showing him the waterfall we had a good swimΒ Β

the kids were jumping in the waterfall was superΒ cool and yeah that was good to be on land andΒ Β

driving around that's a really interesting islandΒ super dry and a lot of different landscapes so iΒ Β

always like to have this kind of a little tour butΒ yeah um thanks to patrons you guys uh rad we'reΒ Β

fantastic and then watching these chumichumi uhΒ squid boats just cruise off into the sunset everyΒ Β

evening is pretty awesome too they come in andΒ wake us up at six o'clock in the morning everyΒ Β

day and then sometimes they anchor a bit crazilyΒ as you saw on a windy day but they are actuallyΒ Β

you know a bunch of friendly cool dudes and theyΒ just come in here and sleep and and wash and hangΒ Β

out all day and then they leave at sunset andΒ work all night definitely a bit of a hard lifeΒ Β

but uh it's cool watching them head off into theΒ sunset every evening and and you know the shapesΒ Β

of those boats are pretty cool as you can see fromΒ the footage i just showed you and uh anyway we'llΒ Β

um we'll catch up next week we've got a coupleΒ of friends well you tell about that yeah we haveΒ Β

two friends from valley we're gonna visit on theΒ boats because they are quite interesting about theΒ Β

what is the life on the boat and they are alsoΒ surfing and it's a good spot here for stuff soΒ Β

i think we're gonna have good time yeah and we'llΒ take them out to a little island out here and makeΒ Β

a video out there with them if they'll let us filmΒ them i don't know they're um yeah we didn't askΒ Β

but yeah hopefully we'll show you them on ourΒ boat next week anyway see you then goodbye
