Having recently stopped in Imperia, the historic training ship Nave Palinuro has been welcoming crowds of enthusiastic visitors on board!
Commander Francesco Carriero shared what makes this iconic Italian Navy (Marina Militare) vessel so special:
⢠A Mission of Tradition & Excellence: Nave Palinuro serves as a training ship for non-commissioned officer cadets and students from the Morosini Naval Military School in Venice. Here, young sailors get their "baptism of the sea" and master the timeless fundamentals of seafaring art.
⢠Life-Changing Experience: As the Commander puts it, young people step on board as individuals and leave as true sailors! The immersive journey teaches teamwork, core naval values, and brave spiritāoften leaving crew members and youth association guests in tears when it's time to say goodbye.
⢠Rich History: Originally built in France in 1934 as a cod fishing vessel, the ship was acquired by the Italian Navy in 1955 to train future officers. At 92 years young, she hasn't stopped since!
⢠Warm Welcomes Everywhere: Throughout her journeys along the Italian coast, the vessel has received keys to cities and forged strong bonds of friendship with every port she visits.
š Where is she headed next? Leaving Imperia behind, Nave Palinuro is setting sail for Port Mahon in Menorca, Spain, to participate in a solemn ceremony honoring the fallen sailors of the battleship Roma.
Fair winds and following seas to the crew! šāāØ
