Many people have been asking why we haven't put any videos out for the last two months
0:08
or so. Well in this video we're going to tell you why
0:27
I'm Barry, I'm Aannsha, this is the continuing journey of Sailing A B Sea. Hello
0:35
It feels a bit weird because it's been so long. It's been so long yeah, we haven't picked up a ...
0:38
well we have picked a camera, but we'll tell you all about that a bit later. Right now though
0:43
the ins and outs of why we haven't been recording. You may remember one of the videos uh Christmas
0:50
time? Yeah. Probably? It was between Christmas and New Year. The incident that happened between Christmas
0:55
and New Year and I think we were probably a week behind real time at that point in our videos. Yeah
1:00
You may remember I ended up in hospital. Well the day before that or the night before that
1:08
I had a very strange thing happen to my brain. Normally I'm the guy who says, right we're going to
1:14
go there and we're going to do this this this this and this to get there and do it. Well all of a sudden
1:21
I said to Aannsha, something's wrong, something's not right in my head
1:25
From my point of view it was really worrying because because I know that he'd had
1:31
lots of stress building up over the previous few months and I was wondering is he having a nervous
1:38
breakdown you know, like what's going on because he was going... I was saying, well tell me what
1:43
the matter is and he was going, I don't know what the matter is but something's wrong, something's
1:47
not right, I can't ... I don't know who I am, I don't know, I can't, I can't think. And I'm like, okay
1:54
so... And for a guy who is very much in his head 24/7 and in control of everything in his head 24/7
2:03
it was a very very scary time for me. Yeah um so... So just just to keep going with that because I think
2:11
people might be interested. Yeah well in hindsight um the long and the short of it is that was
2:18
the point in which c-v-d entered my body. We yeah, although we did a lateral flow test at some
2:25
point either that day or the day after or the day after that and it was negative so we thought
2:30
okay I was then thinking well okay it's a maybe it's a stress thing you know. So then
2:38
the following night we were out at friends having dinner and that's when the pain in my back started
2:43
and crept around to the front. In fact I've still got those pains in my back and Aannsha's currently
2:47
massaging it daily to try and release the tension there. Yeah. Um and it's now nearly
2:54
April. Yeah. No it's actually it's the end of April It is yeah. As you'll know we went to hospital
3:00
and they basically did what they could, didn't find anything serious. They did at the time say
3:07
he's got fluid on the lungs so it could be that he's had an infection recently, so I sort of
3:16
kept that to one side, but it does add into us thinking now that he actually had c-v-d. Can I just say the
3:23
other the other thing is I read an article that had been written about how c-v-d can
3:30
enter through the nose and actually get into the brain and it can affect cognitive function. It can
3:36
affect your sense of self and it can also make you very fearful and when I read that and I talked to
3:42
my brother-in-law who's a doctor, it sounded actually very similar to what had been going on
3:50
that first night. So I'll leave it back to you. Okay so it's been four months since that night
3:59
and it's really literally taken me
4:03
this long to finally feel as though my head's coming right again. Enough that he could talk
4:09
to you guys. Yeah. And the other, I think the other major thing that's happened with Baz is, apart from
4:15
the chesty cough which is nearly gone now. Oh that yeah I've had this one this cough... (said she coughing)
4:22
I've had this cough here for the whole time and it's just in the last couple of days it's actually
4:29
settled down enough that I can speak instead of coughing every 30 seconds. Yeah. But the major thing
4:36
as well has been his energy level has been like bottomed out. I'm so tired, so tired. Yeah he's been
4:42
sleeping until... well in the early days until about two o'clock in the afternoon, and this
4:47
is the guy that gets up with the crack of dawn and the birds tweeting. Yeah so yeah I wake up as um
4:57
and get out of bed and feel as though I haven't had any sleep at all, I just have no energy, no
5:03
motivation, still have a slight lack of confidence um... Vertigo. Oh vertigo yeah. Okay you always had a
5:10
bit of a thing with heights but never anything that you couldn't handle. He's, you know he's the
5:14
guy that leaps like a gazelle or a goat up mountains and down mountains and I'm the one
5:21
that's kind of scrambling behind complaining because I don't like doing it. Actually one of the
5:26
place we visited when we hired a car for a week um it's an ancient amphitheatre called Aspendos
5:34
my vertigo really kicked in there, I... climbing up these steps to the top wasn't so bad
5:41
but then looking down and um the thought of going down, I just thought I was going to fall down those
5:48
those steps um... Because I was sort of like hopped down, I'm normally the last one down and
5:54
I turned around and he's still at the top with our two friends, and I'm like
6:00
oh that's weird, what's going on? And then when we were driving back from
6:05
Termessos... oh yeah that road. Um because Termessos is up a really high hill and it's very... On a switchback road
6:14
and he started to go really slowly and I went, are you okay? And he went no and he and, I said
6:22
is that that vertigo again? And he went yeah and it's really... I mean even you've just told me
6:29
before we started... Yeah the pontoons here at um Finike Marina are concrete, solid
6:35
concrete pontoons, they're not going anywhere uh and they're fairly wide
6:39
um but every time I get off the back of the boat and just walk to the end of the pontoon
6:44
my mind, in my mind I'm saying, you're gonna fall in, you're gonna slip, you're gonna
6:48
you're gonna tumble, you're gonna fall in. That's not normal you know it's it's it's very strange
6:56
um but anyway... So it's been a long a long haul and... Yeah. I mean you know for my part because I
7:03
know last time we talked about when Barry was in hospital and he did the talking and people said
7:08
we would have liked to have heard Aannsha's point of view, so just my point of view, it's, I've been
7:13
concerned, it's frustrating that I haven't been able to do anything [to help Baz get better]. Seeing how long
7:18
it's been going on, I've been concerned because you don't know how long it's going to go on for
7:25
you know and I mean we've talked about, okay so when are we going to go out sailing? And
7:34
you're not there yet how are you? No, I haven't got the confidence
7:40
um yeah. So anyway that's the explanation and you know if you if you have had
7:47
similar sort of um - issues - issues um let us know in the comments section. Yeah. You know this this
7:55
stuff needs to be talked about. Yeah I mean I had it just
7:59
oh look a month or something ago, I had it very briefly, I didn't even have a temperature
8:07
Everybody on the pontoon had, you know been getting it, and um I had a cough which I still have a bit
8:15
of a cough but it's sort of like nothing. But I lost my sense of taste and smell for three days, hah!
8:22
which was the worst thing for me but thankfully it came back and then I hated the taste of wine!
8:29
I kept buying different bottles of wine going, oh that's horrible... I've been buying more and
8:35
more expensive bottles wine. It's like I've got to stop because it's... I realized it was probably just
8:40
my, the whole taste bud thing. Of course, I took one for the team and emptied the bottles. He did
8:45
you know, like he's good like that. He hasn't lost all of his functions so that's really good
8:50
Thankfully I like wine again so that's good, or is it? I don't know so yeah. Anyway enjoy the rest
8:59
of the video as we take you to somewhere - somewhere - some of those spectacular ancient sites in Turkey
9:40
Do you remember this place? Do you remember when we came here in the rain?
9:45
Well we're back now because it's sunny so we're going to show you around
9:52
so yeah so here we are, it's sunny today so we thought we'd come back
9:56
now we've got a car. It's totally different isn't it? Yeah and we're with Ant and Cid
10:00
from SV Impavidus. She said she said it right! She did. She's been practising. Because I know my Latin!
10:10
All right let's uh take you around Aspendos. Check out this amphitheatre. Yeah
10:13
This behind me is the intact flat portion of the amphitheatre and I've never seen one
10:21
that's so well preserved so I'm really looking forward to going in
10:26
and having a look at it from the other side. We've got our museum cards ready
10:37
I guess that uh draws a line under the drone option. Okay apparently Aspendos is the best
10:44
preserved ancient theatre in the world and it was built between 160 and 180 AD. Wow
10:54
now that is impressive. I've climbed to the top level of the amphitheatre
11:04
and there's this kind of like covered walkway that goes all around the semicircle
11:14
Maybe they had people selling things here like food and such but it really is quite impressive
11:26
A little bit out of breath, it's a bit of a climb. You can see where they've repaired bits and pieces
11:34
but they've kept true to the original designs
11:57
So you can do it love, you're nearly there
12:05
It's really weird, obviously this kind of rock I suppose you'd call it was the original build
12:14
and at some point it's fallen over or parts of it have fallen over
12:18
and it's been rebuilt using a totally different technique with rocks from unknown origins
12:26
Some of the... there's still some original plaster work on the bottom. Yeah yeah a big
12:30
big bit there. It's like sort of composite stone isn't it? Yeah it's really weird
12:38
Yeah so this is this is what they've used to build it which is
12:43
stones that are all stuck together, naturally stuck together. Here's some I prepared earlier. Yeah. See? Really weird, if anyone
12:52
is a geologist and can tell us what type of rock formation this is leave a comment
13:01
This is the agora or basically the shopping centre and these are individual little shops and you can
13:07
see the holes in the wall there that was where the wooden beams would go in and the shopkeeper would
13:12
have a shop downstairs and maybe live upstairs because you don't want to be far from your shop
13:18
It's a big construction, unfortunately there's not a lot intact um but you can use your imagination
13:25
and see how it was in its heyday. That's pretty much all the remains of the aqueduct so imagine
13:34
the amount of work that's gone into creating an aqueduct so there must have been a very serious
13:39
consideration that hey we've got to have a big population here, we're going to be here for a long
13:44
time, let's construct that.
13:46
So what are we Barry, 200 metres up? I guess? Yeah probably about 200 yeah
13:53
It would be nice to try and get the drone out but I think it's too windy
13:57
Yeah the gusts are too much. Yeah
14:01
There's a big block, a big chunk of the building material
14:05
so I'm guessing at some point this must have been the riverbed
14:12
Yeah that is the same type of mudstone isn't it? Yeah so they didn't have to go
14:21
far to get it. It was just lying around. So at some point this was an ancient river
14:30
What a fantastic day out, brilliant. I know we're a sailing channel but... No we're travelling channels
14:37
We're travelling channels that's what we are. People wouldn't see this you know if it wasn't for us
14:42
would they? No. Er real life. Yeah yeah we get a lot of comments. People say oh I love it
14:49
when you go to the ancient sites and we get to see things that we probably never get to visit
14:54
so um yeah I think a lot of people appreciate us showing the stuff. Yeah and
15:02
what we both believe in is kind of keeping it real
15:08
Remember the video you did where you were going into Kaş and you weren't happy with the marineros
15:12
and the line? And I know you took a lot of flack over that. I did yeah. But but
15:17
that's real, that's how it really is. What life is like sometimes yeah
15:22
Oh look and it goes off into the distance. Oh yeah. So I'm gonna try... Where you've got that there... Yeah
15:31
And then there's another bit further up. And that house is built right... Yeah in the
15:36
middle. It's probably built with bits of... So what we're saying is this is the uh aquifer here and
15:43
it actually goes past this house over into the distance, right to the other side of the valley
16:04
Wow
16:08
All built out of the same rock
16:30
It's quite interesting when they've built the uh these columns
16:34
and then done the first arch it's all of the same stone but then when you get to
16:38
the second arch up there it looks as though it's all made out of um thin bricks made out of clay
16:46
um I'm guessing that's just for the fact that well these bricks get a bit heavy at some point um
16:53
I don't know, I'm just guessing because we can see up here these are the same bricks all the way
17:01
Unless of course it was damaged and they've rebuilt it
17:04
using a different style. But it's absolutely amazing
