in this week's video we arrive at
finickay
at winter residence
we meet the new neighbors
i've only finally learned how to say the
name of the boat after watching them for
two or three years now but here they are
on pontoon b yeah just up the road from
us so they're neighbours
and we tell you about some of the
projects we've got planned for this
winter but first we're going to tell you
about this chap or his family anyway
[Applause]
[Music]
sitting having a coffee
looking ashore and there's a wild boar
i'm gonna try and get them with this
camera
i might get them with the um
the nikon the big lens
from our angle they've now gone behind
the um
the green shrubbery
while boars in turkey are significantly
larger both in body size and trophy size
and european wild boar the kilos can
weigh 300 kilos at 660 pounds and their
tusks can be as long as 30 centimeters
and that's a foot long unfortunately
most of the pictures of turkish bores
have men with guns behind them and i
don't think they're killing them to eat
them well that was last week and of
course this week
we arrived in finicky
[Music]
maybe i was blind on you forever while i
tried to find
someone that could be my great love
right in front of me i didn't realize
you were my dream
so you took me by surprise
[Music]
is
[Music]
i'm just curious when did you know you
had feelings for me maybe somehow we've
always known that
we have chemistry but always chasing
after someone else so this took me
[Music]
is
feels like
[Music]
even in my wildest dreams
[Music]
even in my wildest dreams
[Music]
is
[Music]
well some celebs have just arrived in
town
they're gonna lower the tone of the
neighborhood
it's ant and sid
from sv in padavas
i've only finally learned how to say the
name of the boat after watching them for
two or three years now but
here they are on pontoon b yeah just up
the road from us so they're neighbours
well that's the whole tone of the
neighborhood dropped in an instant
hi come on
should we catch their life
so we've arrived in finicky
this is going to be our home for the
winter
we're going to do all our maintenance
blogs and videos from
there'll be a few of those i think
it really is
quite stunning scenery behind me so
we've got um
[Applause]
mountains behind us and apparently
there's snow on those over winter
it's still 25 degrees celsius here at
the moment
very peaceful lots of people that we
know from other boats from
le carter and our travels i think it's
going to be uh
it's going to be a nice winter
and we've arrived on a public holiday as
well it's national day today
hopefully later on
we'll um be able to get out and
show you what it's like these guys
really go in for their national day
in a big way
lots of turkish flags
hanging lots of people dressed up
in red and white
reminds me a little bit of gibraltar
and there's been marching bands this
morning
practicing
went out on the scooters last night
it's a big fun fair for the kids all
free
really is a stunning place
look at those mountains
a big solid concrete pontoon we're on
quite long 200 meters or so
a few spaces left a few boats to come in
on sunday night in finnick is barbecue
night it was pouring in with rain but we
went for a barbecue anyway
inside what they call the porthole i
think and guess what someone i've worked
with for 30 years is there playing his
guitar
[Music]
[Music]
now i know we keep saying it but we
absolutely love turkey here's a quick
tour of the marina and the surrounding
area
[Music]
they keep on telling lies
[Music]
that is how we stay alive
[Music]
is
[Music]
two different minds
telling lies
two different lines
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
we keep moving
[Music]
um
[Music]
two different
[Music]
uh
[Music]
to survive
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
as promised here's an update on some of
the jobs we're going to do this winter
and i've started doing a schematic so i
can see
where it is i need to put things and
make their connections let's start with
the solar
back in our boat electrical made easy
series we told you what solar we're
running the plastic flexibles on our
bimini aren't putting out as much as
they used to it's down to about 50
after five years
so we're going to upgrade those to two
205 watt panels and we're doing it here
in turkey because these panels are cheap
very cheap with the exchange rate
and also
for what else we're going to do we're
going to need more solar let's tell you
about that
we're going to get a water maker the
jury's out on what we're going to
actually get
what make or whether we're going to
build it ourselves but one thing's for
sure
it's going to be 12 volt and we're going
to have to run it while charging our
batteries from the solar hence the solar
upgrade the solar upgrade will include a
new charge regulator well a second one
actually so that we have two completely
independent systems
if either one fails breaks down or
there's a problem we still have the
capability of charging our new batteries
ah yes
new batteries
now there's nothing wrong with the 400
amp hours of agm we've got at this
moment but they too are six years old
and i think that they're probably going
to fail and when agm's fail they tend to
fail it pretty quickly you don't get a
warning
so it's time to change batteries and
what are we going for
well we're going lithium lithium has
decreased in price significantly and the
advantages
over conventional lead batteries either
agm's wet cells or gel are just too
great to ignore now and of course in
turkey we get a good deal
now despite what some manufacturers will
tell you you cannot just dump lithium
into your system you need to plan it
properly
especially if your starter battery and
your bow thruster battery are going to
remain agm
in order to protect our alternator
when the engine is running the lithium
will be charged through one of these or
possibly two because they can be run in
parallel our current battery monitor a
nasa marine bm2 cannot monitor lithium
and so we have to upgrade our battery
monitor as well so we're going with the
victron 712
this integrates with the software
bluetooth software of all our other
victron items so
let's talk about victron
so why are we using victron well we're
not sponsored by victron in any way
shape or form if we were we'd tell you
you know us no bs
we find this stuff works it's all
bluetooth capable you can run it from an
app on your phone and it's reliable we
know other people who've had other makes
of gear and it's failed and everybody we
speak to has victron says it works so
that's why we're using it
now before someone jumps in the comments
and says ah but what about your mains
battery charger well that is capable of
charging lithium
so that's what we're going to do
it can be altered on any one of the
three outputs to charge lithium on that
circuit
so that's what we're going to do
now there's going to be an awful lot of
amperage voltage and wattage flying
around so we're going for quality
products when it comes to fuses and bus
bars and isolators and again this will
be victron
we'll talk you through it over the
winter how we do each thing so that's
the update there's lots of other things
we're going to do on imperatives this
winter
but if you're interested in doing any of
these things on your boat these projects
then go over to our playlists and have a
look at boat electrical made easy this
series of videos we made
to teach people about how boat
electrical works everything from
alternators to starter motors and it
starts with the very very basics get
over there and take a look
who knows you might learn something and
that's why we put it there
until next time
sail safe
